Thanks Mr. Kit Ryan. this was great video for me to learn how to install factory OEM roof rails. Very clear instructions and tips.......awesome work....thanks!
Great video! I want to do this on my X5 which is essentially the same thing. Did you disconnect the battery? Remove fuses? Do anything special to Discharge static electricity from the vehicle before playing with the airbags? I’m afraid of accidentally setting the side curtains off when trying to get to the bolt underneath. Thanks for the info and keep up with the great videos!
i have an e70 x5 2010 that needs roof rails. same process? i think with some bmw's the nut is welded onto the underside of the sheet metal and you just need to drill it out
sanok108 , I just installed the rails onto my 2014 X3, video was very helpful. I purchase my rails from a auto salvage yard and they came with the rubber gaskets on the studs but I still put a bead of silicone around the holes to ensure no leaks. One other note, Kit Yankees never mentioned about the rear passenger lights in the headliner. They don't need to be removed. Secondly, I didn't need to unplug any of the wires for the center map light roof console. Once I dropped the headliner I just slide the unit though the hole of the headliner to get it out of the way. I hope this helps.
wow, good job. we just bought a used 2012 X3 without rails and want them added to help carry our bikes on top.....I appreciate this video, but will probably have the dealer do it for the $300 or so....
Great video! I have an f15 x5 with silver roof rails pre installed already, will I have to go through the same process to replace them to the shadow-line trim, gloss black? Thanks
Hi, thanks for this video, But you didn't show the most important..! I was waiting to see the and of the video how did you fix the rails.. 🤔 ? How did you fix this rails..??? You showed only how you removed all the parts .....!
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I am going to install rails on my X3. I have a couple of questions. 1) regarding the clips. In video you said you removed them, but in the retrofit kit it says that 14 clips are used? 2nd question, the rails I picked up have a rubber sealing plug for around the studs. Did you put any additional sealer, like silicone too? Thanks
Przem Dooh , I did not need to remove the clips when I installed my rails. I also did not have to remove the clip holding the side curtain airbag. I was able to move the airbag fabric out of the way of the hole with my finger in order to get the socket with the nut up into the hole. One thing I did do when installing nuts onto studs was to use some electrical tape to hold the nut to the socket to prevent the nut from falling out of socket. I did this because the first nut I tried installing fell out of socket while going up into hole of body. Took me a while to fish it out.
