its so crazy that you are the only one doing this sort of thing for BMX when there are millions of Channels for every other sport or smallest benign subject! keep up the good work! and thank you so much for all the information !!
Tanks man! It's very valuable. I learned many things, that I didn't know. I agree with the low handlebars and pain in the lower back. I wish you good health!
Chromoly steel is actually alloy steel grade 4130. The “30” at the end of the grade number designates that it has approximately 0.30% carbon by weight. Heat treatment is a different thing. Sweet videos man!
I am not sure if you have done a video on this but frame geometry and what the measurements are and how they effect your riding and what your riding. Example my Fit has a 74.5 headtube 21 top tube the frame geometry is for going fast and roasting trails and feeling super stable. Importance of proper fitting bike .
In the mid 90s I fell in love with GT 4 piece bars, I broke 3 sets of them with in 2 months all at the welds where they connect to the stem!! I am a bigger guy,200 pounds but still I don't think they should of broke so fast! What are some strong 4 piece bars out now?? BTW great channel,,subbed!!
You made a comment on the break-area.sss for high-tensile-steel bars. If you look at the 4 piece design, the stresses(vibrations) are transferred away from those area.sss. Bottom-protrusions and angles and position of those bottom-protrusions matters to me (feel) Good information on geometry of rises and sweeps. Riding style and bike objective = with shoulder-width (going up-down straight) = with preferred elbow spread (doing tricks) = with wrist stress (pivot bike sideways leading to slipping-palms and accidentally flipping bike sideways during tricks) = curvature of (shoulder-elbow movements from sitting to half-standing to standing) = suggest straight elbow to wrist to handles of handle-bars Review rises and sweeps, if handle-bars are angled-towards or angled-away. Comfort is performance. Material and design and usage. Some countries have handicap-mentality administrators nanny-police the width of bars allowed on pavements... world is human-realm and not heaven.
@@Brant_Moore you welcome your my favourite youtuber because 1:you explain everything very good 2:your calm 3:you don't swear so i can show videos of you to my dad, that used to be a bmx rider too 4:you respond, listen and like the comments of the community Keep up the good work👍❤️👍👌❤️
Hey good job on the video I just subscribed send a few of your videos already I was just wondering what kind of bars do you have on your bike and where can I find them
Good video!! I ride Dennis Enarson Demolition Rig bars, they're 29' 12°× 2° (I think) really great strong bars. Anyone looking for bars I'd definitely recommend them.
Thank you! For watching and leaving a comment. Hope to see you around here again! Demolition definitely makes solid products and if Dennis rides it, it has to be solid.
Excellent video! I'm planning on adding BMX bars to my hybrid ebike. Current bars are 1" diameter so I'm looking at this BSD FREEDOM OVERSIZED BAR. Wondering if there are others I should consider?
Cult is a company that makes some. Same with We The People. They may have different geometry if that is a factor for you. I’d imagine they’re probably very similar in quality though
i’ve just started riding do you think the lower back pain could be caused to just getting used to the bike because i rode mine for 10 mins and my back was in bits
4° vs. 1° upsweep? I'm about to buy a 9.25 rise bar with 12 backsweep and 28.5 wide. What do you recommend for the upsweep? Thanks man! From the Philippines.
So Odyssey Handlebars are around 80€ here. KHE Handlebars are around 30€.. with butted Tube Tecnology but which heat treatment ?!? Would you suggest KHE Handlebars ? What are you thinking about the KHE Brand overall ? I am 6 feet tall and ride frontloader stem with 8" small Bars. Would you suggest bigger bars for me ? Maybe just a Toploader instead suits better ? You doing great explanation !
I'm looking into getting some new bars for my 2018 Performer. I'm looking for a 4 piece, mid school styled handlebar for customization purposes. My stock bars have a rise that's slightly over 9 inches, so I know about what rise height I'd need for comfort. I want a little less backsweep on whatever trippy looking bars I get.
@@Brant_Moore I'm trying to turn that thing into a GT/Odyssey/Lineage 48H masterpiece 👨🏾🎨! I had a slight disappointment with not being able to get the powder to have my frame and fork powdered in that old school Dayglo Pink that's synonymous with the early Performers. I just ride casually, but wanted to finally have that bike that you'll only see me riding. I'll gladly put down over a grand for my vision of the holy grail of GT's.
@@Brant_Moore I'm an 80's baby that grew up in the golden era of the BMX. I hope they reissue one or two of the late 90's/early 2,000's Dyno designs because I'd love to have one of those as well. I was so pissed about being arrested for being accused of stealing someone's bike years ago, I didn't go get my new Dyno Air from the property claims building after I was released the next day. All I needed to do was get a new front wheel🤣. If the topic was chromed out freestyle bikes, that Air was it☝️🤨!
widest stock after market bars i know of are 32 inches wide. for custom the widest ive seen was 33. and yeah 11 is about the tallest rise ive ever seen other then on a weird walmart type bike a kid i know had, swear the bars were like a foot tall at least.
You know the hoffman handlebars you showed when you mentioned 6 piece bar? The set in the middle sells for $200-250 now that is nuts but they were the most expensive handlebar at my local shop going for $90 but they will last a lifetime but in the event you chopped your bars too short you can actually get replacement grip tubes for those bars. I use to want them so bad because matt hoffman rode them enough with my rant love the vids Brant 👍great job😵
@@Brant_Moore thats awesome that you took the time out of your busy schedule to reply back to my comment thats whats up i got my buddys subscribing and watching your vids now they stoked on the free night review you did, ill be looking forward to your next vids peace✌
The heat treatment is also needed to kinda unify the structure of the metal in welding points. And relieves the stresses made during welding. (The temperature during welding process is really high, and when the material is cooling it might get tempered - that makes it stronger, but more brittle too [let's say 'less springy'] and of course structure is not unified. At least that's what I remember from my materials science lectures, so you might want to verify it yourself :D *THE MORE YOU KNOW*
All I would say is that the wider the bars, the harder they are to throw fast but the more stable/slower steering control. The skinnier the bars, the easier they are to throw and throw fast, but the less stable/quicker steering control. The geometry numbers themselves don’t really have known numbers that are better for bars. Hope this helps!!
Hey, I'm 5'7 and am thinking of getting 9.25" rise bars. Do you think that would help my hops and manuals as far as making it easier to pull up or harder?
I’m not sure what 1.73/1.75 means but it depends more on your height. If you’re really tall then those bars could feel short and make you feel hunched over. I’d say if you’re under 5’10” they would be okay
How do I know what material in my handlebar? It is a used complete Wethepeople bike, that was about 430 Euros 4 years ago. The handlebars are chrome, but have no idea what material they are
Haha wow really? On the bend only an inch smaller than what I run? Wouldn’t expect that. No joking, I still have the original bars that came on my first complete and they are 21 inches wide!! Hahaha
That’d make more sense. Have you seen the old levers made to go on before the bend right be the crossbar? They’re wild. Haha Maybe one day with a 16. Still have the original bar ends and grips on them too.
Haha yes! Diacompe tech2 I think they were? would actually be useful for me 🤣 Rad that you still got your old gear, it's a laugh to compare it with your current setup once in a while
My 4 piece hi ten bars broke at the bottom weld jumping off a 4 set. Very lucky the top weld held or I'd be missing my teeth.. Looking at new bars now. Not sure if I should buy 2 or 4 piece.. They will definitely be 4130... Although I am worried about my fork now. I'm not sure if it's hi ten or 4130.
Hey Brant, pls help me out. I used to ride a WTP Envy 2010, the handlebars are pretty low, I thought every BMX was like that. Then I bought a WTP Envy 2011 recently, and was surprised by how high the handlebars are, compared to the old one. I have a hard time spinning the handlebars, because of they're too high and wide, and they touch my legs when I try to spin them! What should I do, deal with it or get another bike? I'm 5.74 ft tall.
Gosh, stupid question, I meant new handlebars. My concern was the frame was higher, not the handlebars, but I tried to measure and both seem identical. Thanks anyway. I meant a WTP 2017 not, 2011.
Haha no its okay, no stupid questions. I don’t think the frame would affect handlebar height. It can affect how far they are away though if it has a longer top tube. Your fork steer tube and stem are the other factors in bar height aside from the rise of the bars themselves. If you don’t like the way something feels though, it’s always an option to get something else. Maybe a friend has something similar you could try before buying a new set of bars?
Hey bro I'm back.. I'm 5'5" I just got the ODSY 38mm Lincoln to shorten my reach 20.75TT it's great but my bars Suck! I hate high bars so what height do you recommend? BTW you were right about a shorter stem so I figured I'd ask bout bars. Thanks Man!
That’s great to hear man! If you can find bars with a lifetime warranty on them, that’s the way I would go. I’m pretty sure Odyssey makes some that have it
Thanks brother! I've been at it everyday at the skate park. But I appreciate your help with everything!!! You're my Favorite RU-vidr!!! "Never thought I'd say that" but it's True
I personally noticed a difference when I got taller bars and a top load stem. It felt like everything got easier. I also felt like I wasnt so hunched over and my back stopped hurting. I didnt notice a difference with candybars or saran wraps or any of those types of tricks. So basically it was all positive stuff for me. But I think it hinges on increasing the rise the right amount. Too much would probably have a negative effect
@@Brant_Moore Yeah I understand what you mean. I tried 10 rise but felt too big. I think 9.6 or so would be perfect but won't know till end of year. Bike got stolen and now I'm not sure when I'm gonna be back on one. Spent £1500 on it. Hopefully I have motivation still. I do miss just being on a bike.
@@justinvaldez2050 I'm 5 10..178cm. It's personal preference on what you ride as some people prefer smaller. If you want to try 10s then go for it but I never liked it as felt too tall but will be good for you because you're taller. What do you ride currently? Also having a 21tt frame or longer will help you.
@Brant_Moore yeah that might happen but unfortunately bmx is dying if not dead in my state and I’m not a kid anymore. I like my current bars but don’t know if there is a more suitable setup for me.
My bars are 29 and they feel too wide. Grips are longer these days compared to yesteryear, so I feel there is a natural place to grip and it's never changed, except for that crazy period of super short. 29-30 today is same feel as 28-28 1/2 from yesteryear accounting for the grips. I'll definitely cut mine to 28. 29 just feels in the way. As far as height, I feel slightly shorter is better for flatland, but I like them tall for general riding.
is scuffing still a thing in flatland? I see flatlanders riding brakeless now. All seems very fast paced compraed to the Day Smith's and Trevor Meyer's
I didn't say anything about scuffing. But it's pretty hard to learn pumping if you can't scuff first. What do you think today's tricks are? The same thing as yesteryear, just way evolved. That said, I don't really pay attention to what's a "thing" anyway. These days I'm just happy to carve around bowls and still have my original knees. Today's flatland is awesome skill-wise but it also gets repetitive and kind of esoteric, meaning not understood by the casual observer. I'm a fan of huge fast tricks that look good to non riders. Like instead of a dainty gturn in a tight circle, how about a high speed huge carved reverse nosewheelie type of gturn. That's how it was invented. That's flashy and easy to comprehend and gives you massive momentum to link stuff.
I’m on your side with wider bars not feeling right. When I first built the Nowear frame I didn’t know it but the bars were actually 29.5. The first session left my wrists hurting but I thought it was just in my head until Karl told me the 4 piece bars come wider than the 2 piece. Cut them down to 28.5 and everything felt normal again. As far as flatland goes, all of the spinning and stuff definitely looks similar to me, but there’s also guys like Terry Adams who do that crazy flip stuff with the bike. That stuff is crazy looking. Can you imagine a rider these days doing that crazy flatland, then doing a gnarly huge gap? Would feel like watching someone Ike Osato again
I'm planning on building a bike. I'm 5 ft 4 in. And the only option for me is street since there's no parks where I live. What can you suggest? Sorry for the bother.
20.5 frame. Something like the Sunday Street Sweeper. Then build around that. You probably don’t want 10” rise bars but all of it is kinda up to personal preference
@@Brant_Moore I heard that 5' 4" guys should get 19.5 (I'm 18 btw, not sure if 19.5 is legit) but the most common size I see is 20.5 and I'm kinda scared since I've no experience.
Haha you’re right, I just am super particular with anything in life that could potentially ruin something. No torque wrenches here! The grunt scale is the way to go
thank you for answering my question sir, so back to the concern eventhough I pull up my front wheel so hard it's just rise up to I think 1 foot or less I feel like I need A higher handle bar or what?
What happened to 6pc handlebars. They used to be damn near a standard. If you watch late 90's ESPN Xgames everyone was rocking 6pc bars. Why did the trend stop?
dylan santana iv all ways rode with 4 piece bars from 2001 to 2005 I had haro kneesaver 2k in the past, when I got back to bmx bike again I ordered haro lineage 1988 kneesavers to replace the 2 piece bars. I rode vert back then and getting back into vert riding. I ride 4 piece bars because I like them better and did vert riding. I used to ride bmx bikes back then when they were 40 pounds. You have no respect for the bmx community by calling other riders fags only because they have 4 piece bars.
While I wouldn't exactly call it normal, I would still say that if it feels comfortable there's nothing wrong with that. The thing you often see when people have bars that are too big is that they just look awkward trying to move the bike around. Either way, there is nothing wrong with having those bars if you like them. Thanks for watching! Hope to see you in the comments again soon. If you're not subscribed, consider it! Would love to have you on board.
2020 if you see this. i am 48 and fixed a bmx bike. The bars where way Chicago forward, i pulled them back straight with forks. Seems hard to bunny hop this bike. even up a curb. Maybe push bars forward a little ? or Start lifting weights ? LOL hahahaha
Eh thats kinda something that has faded with time. I personally have figured out that I like my bars at 28.5 wide so thats where i ride them. If you like 30 and are comfortable with it, thats all that matters
Whoa wait a minute. Cutting bars is not a lost art. Bars are made up to 30 so you have the option to cut them. Tall guys I ride with like 29 to 30 wide. If you're not tall you do not need 30 wide. I've found that 8.75, 27.5 is perfect for me. Wide bars will f up tricks like barspins and x-ups. Don't knock cutting til you try it. I always tell people to experiment. You may find something else that's better than what you have.
I go American whole bike. Maybe tires and grips might be from China. I go with the Chris Hardy fit aftermarket frame with Relic carts and profile that's what my whole bike is made up of all American-made baby
