Quality of bike? All specific BMX brands are great. I would say that there isn't a brand that I would be like "hey man, be careful." I like Chase and Haro personally.
You should make the to that when you manual u push on the pedals because I used to think it was all weight. Not knowing I need to push on the bike at the same time
Thanks for that. Yes it’s hard to commit and manual if you don’t drive your feet through. I have some ideas for a future video for those that don’t know how to manual at all.
My first time on a track in the early 80's, before managing, the best tip I ever got was stay as close to the ground as possible. Tracks have changed. Excellent video.
hi coach. I myself am from Russia and our bmx race is poorly developed, but I want to learn how to ride well. When I'm riding on the back wheel, I start to fall sideways. how can this be fixed?
I would consider having even pressure through your feet on the pedals, make sure your core is tight, and get the hips past the rear axle. Sometimes side to side balance means you're fighting fwd/aft balance (fix this first).
For me it is weird that my BMX race Cruiser is restricting manuals more than my dirt bike😅 2nd issue is to overcome the fear that gets worse every year of age. 35 years ago we just ripped the bike until it worked and denied the pain of falling
I have been playing around with where I position my hips when manualling. Adjusting from hips slightly lower to standing taller. It's been super surprising to me how tiny adjustments make huge differences.
@@BMXTraining its mainly a way for me to be a better coach for my children but I feel I have the competition in me. Thanks for the bump in confidence, look forward to utilizing your videos to grow some future champs in my kids!
that wheelie tip is fantastic, i come from weightlifting so i am already doing strength training and i practice manual all the time to get the hang of it but trying a wheelie has never crossed my mind!
Hey Coach, 49 and just build a S&M MOD. Running dirt jumps and still trying to learn to manual. Best I’ve done is 3 parking spaces at a fairly slower speed or 2 rollers in a pump track. I think I will take your recommendation to try wheelies more. I’m actually a strength coach as one of my occupations so I’m fore filling that recommendation. Deadlift 395 @ 164lbs when I was 42
Tire pressure is often overlooked as a new rider. I ride a bmx (freestyle) bike and need it to be at 80 psi. When it is too low, it makes its harder. I don't know what racers run their psi at.
On the topic of strength training, Lee McCormack's RipRow is great. It doesn't totally replace weight training and isn't cheap, but it's good for building bike specific endurance and mechanics. I'm a mountain biker, but strength training + RipRow keeps me pretty sharp in the off-season.
Hey coach g I have a pump track near my house is that any good for manualing I can do quad manuals but the rollers are quite small and I never tried one on the teack
Is a rowing machine good? I am trying to get more fit as I work on mauling and jumping. Your vids are great and I am using a lot of your tips on your website and RU-vid . You help me get better by making these tip videos.
Thanks for the video. Someone once told me that manuals are "the hardest easy trick to learn" 😅 I still haven't cracked it. Definitely a core/ glutes / hammies thing. Deadlifts help
The technique that killed BMX. We used to save that for the skateparks. Half the BMX track is a skatepark now. That is why so many walked away. Now, in 2023, we the people are pushing back and fighting for jumps for all and less tippy toeing across rollers. We fix this problem and we will see a major resurgence of BMX racers and a strong bicycle sales market.
@@toddwilson1966 BMX racing on an actual track, died in the late 80s. Even when it became an olympic sport, many would be racers were disillusioned as to what actual BMX racing is and a suitable all around bicycle is unavailable. Your bike cant be ridden on the trails and the track anymore. That killed the sales of bikes. When only pro's ride whats left of BMX tracks and the rest ride the velodrome with bumps, many are turned off by that. Yes, I'm 58 and still race but I dont take it too seriously. The best part of the track has been taken away.
there is footage of a guy manualing in a parking lot i suggest you push with all your strength that wheel down when you get to the second cone so that u dont over shoot the manual therefore losing speed
