wonderful discussion. I loved the book. On so many levels. I have twin daughters and I was riveted by the impact of that separation. So many dimensions of the characters - reading it for my book group. What an interesting discussion we will have.
This summer 2 of my best book discussions for book club was Such a Fun Age and The Vanishing Half. I read The Mothers this week. I look so forward to following Bennett's career. Love her work.
I loved this interview! Thank you both : ) Brit, the depth of identity as perception and the complexities (...and simplicity) of change is brilliantly written in your marvelous novel. Thank you ever so much for this page-turning work.
I was wondering whether or not Brit had heard of the horrible experience that Nat King Cole had in the LA community when he moved into a white neighborhood. That was back in the ‘50s. Also I wish a discussion of the movie “Imitation of Life” took place here. It was a very popular plot-made twice with Janet Gaynor and then later in the ‘50s with Lana Turner.
"I was wondering whether or not Brit had heard of the horrible experience that Nat King Cole had in the LA community when he moved into a white neighborhood. " I'm sure she knows about it. She IS a New York Times bestselling author and a well-educated scholar.
