"Boże, coś Polskę" originated from the hymn of the song "Pieśń narodowa za pomyślność króla", an anthem honoring the Russian Tsar modeled on the English hymm "God save the King." After the defeat of the November Uprising in 1831, the melody of the original song was simplified and new stanzas where added. Today, it stands as a prime symbol of Polish resistance.
