That moving Day is likely Quebec only. Each province has their own rules and Quebec tends to have more unique rules than others. Some series finales I liked were Mr. Robot, Orphan Black and the Expanse
July 1st is Canada Day celebrating the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867. It coincides with Quebec's traditional Moving Day, when many fixed-lease apartment rental terms expire. The bill changing the province's Moving Day from May 1 to July 1 was introduced by a federalist member of the Quebec National Assembly, Jérôme Choquette, in 1973, in order not to affect children still in school in the month of May. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moving_Day_(Quebec) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Day
I watch DT for the game discussions. But this is one time I agree with a non-game review: Tom's take on The Shield. Lovers of Breaking Bad? Breaking Bad's final season is terrible--it turns a tragedy series into an action movie. But The Shield knows what it is and the final season goes where it needs to go and doesn't compromise in tone or characters or the internal logic built by the show. I am intrigued, though, how TOM grew to love the series! it is dark...I mean...talk about a show with no one to like! If you haven't watched The Shield, check it out. (....though the first season is the worst : ) )
It is patented for him in EU for everything but games but in Germany everything. Someone else is trying to patent it in the US not to be mean but so anyone can use it in the US.
Meeple at least for U.S. law has definitely become generic vs a trademarkable term. There is no way in a court in The USA to defend this because it would have to be shown that to the average person in a knowledgeable group that the word Meeple is associated with a specific company and shown the ability to cause confusion. Meeple is not associated with any specific company in America. It has become generic. And as such can not be protected. As for copywrite law you would have to prove authorship of meeple which also I believe impossible in this case.
Also, the actual term Meeple was not created by Hans im Gluck, and it wasn't in the original Carcassonne game rules. The credit for the term "meeple" allegedly belongs to one Alison Hansel, who accidentally melded the words "my people" when referring to the pieces that Carcassonne officially called "followers".
You can send anyone you like a cease and desist. All it takes is one company to take a stand a point out this term predates the trademark-holder's use of it. Then it just goes away. But it takes someone to take the risk of spending money in court and not prevailing.
If Hans Im Gluk wants to continue defending their trademark and sending cease and desists, they will likely see what happens to company reputations when trademarking common industry terms. The fine bros youtube channel found out when they tried trademarking "react." Momofuku found out with "chili crunch." Taco Johns relinquished "taco tuesday" when Taco Bell promised to spend any amount of money necessary to "liberate the trademark" so that Johns could avoid spending millions on its defense. People do not like it when companies use lawyers to stifle others or cash in on others. And I don't know the intellectual property laws in Germany/EU, but if it's anything like the US, they actively would have to protect their trademark to keep it, otherwise they can lose the trademark.
Guys, Asian Tigers was roasted by people on bgg because of the AI generated cover. Most of the parts of that box are images found on the web. There was also a funny announcement by the company in a post in bgg about how they've paid James Churchill to do the art and they didn't expect him to use AI generated stuff :D.
Joey, your my new favorite....Psych is the best show ever, the inside 80s quips are hilarious! My husband and I would have Psych marathons on the weekends. Not sure i can trust Tom's judgement in the future 😅
Tom's comments about Event Horizon on TV struck me as how I felt about Sunshine (2007) after I thought it was going to be about spaceships and the sun. Instead it was a horror flick.
The last episode of "Newhart. I'm not sure any season finale can ever top this for me. Sorry, but Star Trek: The Next Generation is the worst of the Star Trek series.
