Ok the image at 13:12 of Pret-A-Porter makes it look like The Marquis de Cat's head on that very fashionable body and it is perfect! Also I just watched the playthrough of the Tablenauts playing Last Night on Earth and it does really seem like one that if everyone is into it, it would be a great game!
You can also refuse to negotiate which can have hilarious consequences. If you do negotiate, you only have a minute to come to a deal so it's never long and drawn out.
Jeff - Lords of Vegas is THE game my buddies and I play every guys weekend like 3x a year. Great great great group game. Would be honored to teach you one day.
Jamie I love your haircut!! It looks so good. Fun selection of throwback games-definitely intrigued by some of these games too ☺️ particularly vinhos, lords of Vegas, and pret a porter
Race for the Galaxy is AMAZING! Between physical and digital versions I've logged over 1000 plays and I'm still not tired of it. If you're like me though you might not love it until you've played it a few times. If you DO love it, then saddle up because the BGA implementation is awesome, and the mobile app is one of the best out there (you can crush a game in less than 5 minutes once you know the cards). I'd gladly play it with either of you on BGA any time, just say the word. :) Vinhos is great too, but the rules are pretty intense, especially the wine fairs. I've heard the Deluxe edition streamlines things a bit, I'm actually considering upgrading my copy just because I always have to re-learn the rules before playing Vinhos again. Lords of Vegas is also at the top of my "want to try" list, and sounds like something I'd love to play with you guys some day when we eventually meet. Great video! And hey, I also graduated in 2006! - Carlo
@@FostertheMeeple Right back at you two. I haven't had as much time as I'd like since the summer to watch your videos and chat in your Discord but I watch when I can and I lurk the Discord once in a while. Hoping to reconnect more in the (near) future. Take care!
Knizia’s from that era (not his best 5 year period): Blue Moon City, Keltis (Spiel des Jahres winner), Municipium, Genesis, Samurai the card game (now available as Pollen).
I have a game recommendation for you to play. Cyclades (2010). It’s an auction / area control game. I was surprised how fun it was. We played at 5 players. Picked up the Titans expansion which is supposed to improve an already excellent game. And I have picked up Troyes (2010), although I have not had the opportunity to play yet. Heard many good things about this one. Each person is responsible for administering their section of the city. It’s a mix of dice worker placement, some set collection and area majority.
Race for the Galaxy is one of my favorite games. I have played it on BGA and even have the app, but I like playing the physical copy way more. Once you're familiar with the icons, it plays very fast. Also tried Roll for the Galaxy but Race: that's the one for me ;-) Cosmic Encounter: one of my shelf of shame but for some reason I can't get people excited to try this one. And you know what's even worse? I have 3 expansions 🤦♀
Jamie, are you really allowed to say, "we don't drink wine" while sporting that new haircut?!? No disrespect, you look fantastic! But also, I'm pretty sure the hairdresser was legally obligated to hand you a chardonnay right after the last snip
My top ten: Hansa Teutonica (2nd favorite game of all time), Lord of Vegas, Troyes, Cyclades, Shogun, Fresco, Thurn & Taxis, Vikings, Yspahan, Shipyard.
Feels like a good 5 years for games. Like a lot of foundation games came out that have set the hobby on a path. Jaime I thought you were actually getting pulled back in time for a second there. Terrifying
Labyrinth can be played by one or two people. The Nuns on the Run is a game that is like hide and seek. The Nubie nuns try to accomplish getting a certain item in the convent after hours without being caught out of the bedroom by mother superior.
fun list - if you’re going to try Vinhos, try to find the 2nd edition - I think it’s called the Deluxe Edition - it does away with the bank, which streamlines the game and makes it funner!
@@FostertheMeeple Counterpoint - the 2016 edition really dumbs the game down. Honestly, the bank is awesome and makes the game so much more thinky. In the same way that you should only play Kanban with mean Sandra, only play Vinhos with 2010 rules. Still get the deluxe edition though, because that has both games.
Great idea for a list, I bought some of these (Race for the Galaxy) when they first came out. Is there going to be a follow up video telling us what you thought of the ones that you managed to get hold of us and play? I hope so.
You should watch NoRollsBarred episodes of Cosmic Encounters. Learn the game AND be entertained. Some of my favorite board game videos on the internet.
Cosmic Encounter is the big one for me from your lists. It's sitting in my Kallax, waiting to be played (along with a couple expansions). Just need to pick a game night and get it played already. Also, if it will help to make you both feel a little younger, I graduated high school in 1984. Now THAT is old. 😅
Last night on earth is super fun. One of my 'never get rid of' games. Not to bloated, cool theme (the cheesy look and feel is intentional) and fast play and setup. Even people who could not imagine playing with little zombie figures and werent even into boardgames could not resist the fun. One player needs to play the overlord/zombielord though.
@@FostertheMeeple Its so thematic, i love it. Like my favorite card the zombie player can play "This could be our last night" when the players have one male and female (hey, its the 80s) pair alone in one spot they lose a turn because they are...occupied. Or "Lets split up" that forces the players to behave like stupid horror movie characters. Just dont expect super deep rules and complexity. But again, on the plus side this is fun for new people to get them into thematic board games.
Fun video! Youngins'?? Photo albums fine, but tell me if you can remember the replaceable flash bulbs on cameras? Say cheese and then be blinded for a solid minute! 😅 I, too, think Nuns on the Run looks fun based on theme alone. Quick question, are you going back to doing the videos where you look at 100 games ranked on BGG at a time, ie 801-900? Those were fun as well. 😊
Zooloretto and Lords of Vegas are great. Tammany Hall is an area majority game and is also great. Race for the Galaxy is fun if you’re playing with people of approximately the same experience level. I have played Cosmic Encounter several times and it’s not my favorite game, but I would like to play it again sometime. Jeff I have a bunch of these wargames and have the same problem you have. We should meet up and play Labyrinth sometime at PAX Unplugged.
Does it make Jamie feel better about her age I if I tell you I graduated High School before either of you were even born. 😮😊 Thank you for another wonderful video that was a real fun one to watch and gave me a couple ideas to add to my collection. 😮😊
Isn’t Cosmic Encounter from the 70s? Haven’t played it either though. Tammany Hall is mean! Love it, and love Brass Lancashire! The rest you can skip ;P
Tammany Hall is a mean, yet super fun, area majority game about old-timey politics dealing with nyc immigration. But very abstracted out. Really fun game.
Literally guffawed at Jamie being physically hurtled back in Time. Excellent space/mime work. Improv Teacher approved! A+++. Fun fact: I was the first person to play Race for the Galaxy with Max on BGA! I didn't help much teaching it to him, tho XD Zooloretto is also on BGA, I believe, tho it may still be Alpha or Beta rn
