The board width is important because standing on the rail is what allows you to get leverage on the fin. Wider board means it can handle a longer fin. A modern 130l board might be about 80cm wide. Mine uses a 46cm fin. These numbers are normally for slalom/freeride though. So that 130l board should probably have an 8 m2 sail. If it is windy enough to use a 5.2 then you should probably be on a smaller board to get the most out of your gear. I believe you could change to a smaller fin if you are using a 5.2, but then you may need to move the foot straps inwards so that you don’t put so much pressure on the fin. Long story short; board size, fin size, and sail size are all connected. Point 7 has an article with a chart which talks about these pairs.

Using a bigger sail in lighter wind will have more impact on your ability to plane than changing your fin.

With 85 in light I would always trim to the back. When planing it will make it much easier to make the board fly and be fast.

Sounds too windy for your weight and 63w. But generally I would suggest a 31/32cm, depending on the brand.

Thanks Carl! I tried bootstraps positions when I first changed to JP Australia. Now I'm very used to this position and the boards only change slightly so that this remains a good position.

Habe ja eigentlich eher das Gegenteil postuliert. Die Boardgröße gibt viel mehr Ausschlag über die Finnengröße - von daher brauchst du nicht für jede Segelgröße eine Finnenlänge :-).

@@petrcech481 As I said, there is only a few things you can do about a board, so obviously the tips are the same, just like every other video on board tuning. Except I try to give some personal notes aswell.

What do you mean by polish?

@@Nico_GER7: with polishing I mean the same process used for making the paint of a car shine. This reduces the surface roughness and should minimize the turbolences created by the micro scratches. I was wondering if the pros do something like that. Have you ever done something like this?... Now I am wondering what happens if we apply an hydrofobic coating to the board.

@@zanusbluesman I don't think that's a good idea. You want to have a thin film of water on your board. That's the best for the connection between board and water. Hydrofobic would be worse.

Bin ca. 189cm und wiege 87-88kg. Die Fußschlaufenposition bleibt bei mir immer gleiche. Mein muss sich ja auch auf bestimme Dinge "einfahren".

NiCo PiCo 87 kg wiege ich auch, nur bei 1,69 aber mit tieferem Schwerpunkt, für weniger Windwiderstand bei besserem Anpressduck 😁😁😁 Special Tuning!

Moin Tilmann. Das stimmt nicht. Lustigerweise gibt es extrem viele Theorien, die sich aber nicht so aufs Windsurfen umsetzen, wie man denkt. Haben beim Testen schon recht viele physische Theorien "widerlegt". Also nicht wirklich widerlegt, aber eben festgestellt, dass beim Windsurfen doch irgendeine Komponente anders wirkt als man denkt. Im Endeffekt kann man solche Sachen nur über's testen rausfinden. Der Unterschied ist auch wirklich minimal... aber viele kleine Unterschiede machen dann irgendwann einen großen Unterschied.

Ne,ne - du verbesserst den Wasserabriss aber nicht den Grip. Zum Glück kannst du mit deinem 1000er Schleifpapier ja keinen großen Schaden anrichten :)

@@Nico_GER7 Ich find's aber auch logisch. Die Leekante fungiert ja auch als Abdrifthemmer (wenn man das Brett auf die Kante stellt). Querkräfte, die das Segel nunmal produziert, werden in Vortrieb umgewandelt. Das funktioniert besser mit einer scharfen Kante als mit einer "runden".

@@tilmann13 da hast du vollkommen recht. Scharfe Kanten erzeugen einen besseren Wasserabriss aber nicht den Grip! Bestes Beispiel sind wasserflugzeuge. Je schärfer die Abrisskante desto weniger Anstellwinkel/speed ist erforderlich zum abheben
