Navigation trick Princess Ships. On decks 5, 6, and 7, head to elevators closest to your room, then take that elevator up to your room and walk from there. Your walk won't feel as long.

The medallions are really handy. Bonus - we were on the Emerald during our anniversary. Every one of those tall signs in the elevator areas wished us a "Happy Aniversary" as we walked by. That is a little like "The Minority Report," but it was still fun.

Great tour and a good way to get a good feel for the ship! For some reason, I always thought cruises were just for retired people in their 70's. I couldn't have been more wrong about that. I went on one about 5 years ago out of Florida and my opinion about them took a complete 180. Cruising might be my favorite way of vacationing now. I'm really looking forward to going on a cruise with one of my kids next year. We've been looking at different cruises and the Discovery Princess was one of the ships/cruises I came across. I love all the things you guys mentioned about being on the ship too. I love the peace and quiet you get early in the morning or at night, especially being out on the open sea. And one of my favorite memories on my first cruise was hanging out on the front of the ship on one of the shaded loungers where there was hardly anyone around, enjoying the expansive views across the ocean and the gentle wind that you get when the ship is up to speed on the way to the next stop. I'm getting excited just thinking about it 😆. There's definitely nothing like cruising. Everyone has to experience it at least once in their life!

Great video. Also watched the tour of all the different cabins. Very informative and entertaining. Our first cruise was on the Coral Princess from Vancouver to Alaska. Princess is a Class Act. Like the medallion concept and the App. They make your cruise carefree. I think the Wife/Husband locater would be very useful should you lose each other on such a large ship. Adore Princess & love the medallion (my husband calls it the wife lo jack). We always try for a mini suite for the extra space, but the aft balcony looks amazing! Thank you for taking us along on your latest adventure

We always sail in aft cabins. I love them! The only one that had any negatives was Norwegian Bliss. Some vibration and noise and soot on the balcony one day.

Have mostly sailed Princess - but just one ship the (older) Grand Princess. We live on the W. Coast and it sailed quite a bit out of San Francisco. Loved it, but no medallion technology when we were on her. Having since ventured out and tried some different ships, I can say that Princess' cabins (we always got a jr suite as it was myself and kids) seem generally smaller than other lines. The Jr. Suite seemed smaller than the Havana Cabana we had on the Panorama recently. Definitely a "classic" old world ship feel IMO. Sooooo fun to see all you're experiencing on this inaugural voyage!

Loved your video. I took the Princess Majestic last month north to SF and back down to LA. We loved the location feature and the chat which was free on the Medallion app. My girlfriends and I always used it to find each other. The Princess Discovery looks beautiful.

In your preferences, you can select to receive the daily “patter” in paper form. Also the daily schedule is on the big screens by the elevators. Love the fruit cookies too 😋

FYI, I was just on the Sky Princess, my first medallion cruise too, turns out if it's your very first time using the medallion, it does take longer (loading) to get onto it to use it. I love the find my shipmates thing. I typed "where are you guys" a million times in my group chat on our last Carnival cruise lol, as did the rest of my party. To be able to just use the app and see exactly where they are, that's amazing. Especially with cruising with my teenagers.

We sailed the Carnival Valor during it’s first year in service in 2004. We had the corner aft balcony. The balcony wrapped around the aft corner of the ship. We really enjoyed it.

Great video! We can’t wait until we get the “all clear” to sail again on our beloved Princess ships. How lucky is it that this new ship is sailing out of the port just a few miles from our home? On that note, here’s a locals tip for avoiding those bridges in the future: Take the Harbor (110) freeway to the exit just a few blocks from the Cruise port. The bridges are a short cut to connect Long Beach harbor with San Pedro (LA Harbor). There’s no need to take them otherwise…unless you want to for thrills. I’ve lived in the South Bay for ages and go to both Long Beach and San Pedro frequently, when I am able to get out and around, but have only crossed the bridges on two nail biting occasions.

We had an aft with a balcony that wrapped around the side on Disney Fantasy-IT WAS AMAZING!

Just done our first Princess cruise. Loved the medallion system but the lack of usb and sockets was ridiculous, particularly when you rely on your phone for app so need it charged! Thankfully we had packed an adapter as we wouldn’t have managed without very well at all. The hairdryer was awful - like something from the 1970’s that was attached to a holder on the wall. Other than that it was great. We did have the same wardrobe and cupboard space. So much hanging room. We also had a bath with shower over so the negative of a shower curtain rather than door/screen but the room was overall a good comfortable room. As always staff were amazing.

Looks like a beautiful ship!! We will have our first aft balcony on the Valor this October and can't wait!! First it's 30 days till the Carnival Glory for 7 days !

Hi ..San Diego here again .we took the second sailing right after you on the discovery we really wanted to have time to explore the ship so we did a one week California coastal and added another week Mexican. It was great we love the medallion we got spoiled also.. we didn’t like the bathrooms that was the smallest of all bathrooms we have cruised on out of 40 cruises. But we didn’t spend much time in there 😅 that was fine ..my husband took his showers at the spa after he got done working out at the gym so he had a much bigger shower. That was great.. we definitely will be booking it again since we live in San Diego we don’t fly to our cruises anymore there’s a lot of options out of San Diego and out of Long Beach for us. Discovery is definitely going to be our go to cruise. We don’t care much about going to Mexico again because we have been there so many times and we live 30 minutes from Mexico. So we will just go on there to enjoy the cruise and the ship and all the amenities it offers.😮

Now I need to schedule a cruise on Princess. I’m excited I have an aft balcony on my upcoming cruise in the Carnival Panorama.

Re: aft cabins, I've had one aboard Celebrity Silhouette for an Adriatic Sea cruise in October '12. On Celebrity, these aft cabins are called Sunset Verandahs. Are they worth the moolah? Not really, especially if you get rain on some of your sea or port days, and the water just ends up soaking up your balcony deck's surface. Not nice. Regarding your neighbors, did they smoke? If so, that's another downside to aft cabins. One amusing note is that you can watch the free show called "pier runners." These folks are often the last ones who re-board the ship and they run like heck to get to the boarding ladder before the door closes. Why are they late? B/c one of them didn't read the boarding time on the big sign in the debarkation area. Gee, I wonder who that job to remember the boarding time? As for the tracking down of family members, no thanks. That's one reason I prefer solo cruising: I don't have to re-group w/family members at such-and-such-time and place. But if you're in a group of non-family members, do I want that capability? Only if I'm going on a Cruise Critic independent tour and I need to be in certain place and time to do the tour. OTOH, the capability to order food and drink and have both brought to you wherever you are on the ship, I guess that's an Ok tool. What about booking shore excursions--if you haven't done that beforehand and you're doing it now? What about when you're ready to debark the ship and go to your buses? How does Medallion work for that situation? An inquiring mind wants to know? What about cruise photos? Are they on display in a kiosk, and do you use your Medallion to buy which photos you want? How about checking your room account to see how much you racked up in charges? For couples, who has the loudest and longest scream--the wife or the hubby--when either of them sees the account balance? For families, who screams the loudest--Dad or Mom--when they see the room account balance? For us solos, the blame for the size of the room charge account balance goes to us solos, as we scream, "OMG, I spent that much?" Funny, Shep! :-)
