It's cool you can see even Gyp's own men are shocked by this killing. It really shows how, given the chance, they'd all betray him in a heartbeat. They're not loyal, they're terrified.
@@Bromane2002you know gyp got murdered by the guy who asked him not to kill his cousin like a month later in the show right. Sonny also got killed. But through some sigma music on and I guess it’s better to be feared for the 5 mins until you get killed 😂
The one thing I loved about Gyp was just how chill the dude was. He always took things in stride and you'd never really see him get too wound up about anything. If there was an argument, why you could always count on good ole Gyp to be the level headed one who would, listen to everyone's concerns and then explain to his men his thoughtful resolves for the matter.
I agree. I don’t even know why the video says that gyp killed the guy. Gyp clearly dropped the shovel on the poor man’s head while trying to help him out of the sand like the good person he is!
@@jerrypierre7825you watching same show Gyp was most vilotile hot head short fuae ticking time bomb maniac always lose temper go into psychotic violent murderous rage
I thought I was the only who thought he was misunderstood. If only there were a lot more men like Rosetti that existed this world would be a much better place, albeit with a lot less people
What many people do not realize here, and what took me another go to see it for myself, was that in Gyp’s sick, twisted, psychopathic state, he genuinely believed that by bludgeoning his cousin to death with a shovel, he was doing Tonino a big favor. Gyp wanted to bury him in the sand like that to be tortured by the tide, the crabs; to die slowly and helplessly. Instead he ‘took pity’ on Tonino and gave him a ‘quicker’ death. Hence the “you owe me” comment afterwards. Seriously one of the best and underrated villains in TV history.
@Roger B theres no true loyalty in the costa nostra, even if he didnt kill toninos cousin if it was Gyps time, they would of sent tonino to do the job anyway..its usually the one you trust like your best friend or family in the mob..its among the italians real greaseball shit
@@squakrock It doesn't mean all his subordinates feared him. At this point it became personal for Tonio. If Gyp was not protected by Masseria who was the real boss. Tonio would have killed him right then and there i believe.
@@flankspeed yes and then the debt for Billie Kent was finally paid too in 1931. Nucky warned Tonino not to come to AC again. Especially looking for a job.
@@LoudaroundLincoln you're taking everything off its body for what? No I'mma keep my dog the way it is if people mess with it and it bites imma fuccin vouch for my dog
I knew Tonio was going to kill Gyp after this. He fail to listen to what Joe was trying to teach him what was loyalty. You can't go around doing whatever you want just because you are the boss. Rosetti own soldiers looked at him with disbelief. Being the boss doesn't make you immortal, but loyalty and respect can keep in you in a position of power for a very long time.
The interessting part in Gyp death was not only Tonio killing him, but although Gyps other men did nothing to safe him. Everyone was glad he was dead, even his own men. He had no loyalty, the only reason they worked with him was fear, as soon as they had the chance to get rid of him they did that.
i think saying your mothers brothers kid comes off as more personal then "cousin"... specifically bringing up your mother instead of who knows maybe it's your fathers brothers kid and who gives a shit about him
Gyp’s idea of kindness and respect is beating a guy to death with a shovel until his head is detached from his body to avoid allowing him to remain buried until the tide eventually drowned him. Total sweetheart move in my opinion ❤
It's like - the chaotic evil villain, psychotic and menacing like Tuco Salamanca or Gyp Rosetti, can be very intimidating and dangerous, but they last for a short time. In the long run they are no match for the well mannered and soft spoken neutral evil, like Arnold Rothstein or Gus Fring.
He probably would’ve really solidified his position as leader had he let Frank go. Would’ve simultaneously instilled fear and respect into his subordinates’ hearts.
Gyp was going to let the tide come in and let him drown. Instead he made it quick and just bashed his brains in. That’s the kind of respect you get from Gyp Rosetti.
@@mikefitz2124 well, of course you must know I was being factious, tongue in cheek with my comment. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I posted that. Completely forgot about it.
It's only befitting that Tonino ended up being the one who physically killed Gyp in the end. So in a way, what Nucky ordered him to do was just icing on the cake, because I'm sure deep down he wanted to avenge his family but never had the gull to do it until the end. We all expected Nucky to be the one to do it, but it ended up being someone who actually had a personal reason to do so. Very befitting and a good choice on the director and or writer's part.
Cannavale's Rosetti was the most interesting character in the series and actually generated higher ratings for the show during his segment. He was the one persona that I wanted to know more of, in particularly, his bizarre family dynamic living in a small apartment with 5 women, his wife, 2 daughters, mother-in-law and a grandmother along with his sexual fascination with erotic asphyxia. He should've stayed on the show till the end.
I wish Franco got one more comment about rogue waves in. "Please Mr Rossetti, if a rogue wave comes while I'm buried here!" "What was that?!" "Nothin.. I'm sorry.. I'm just sayin, if a rogue wave were to hit the beach while I'm buried here.."
I love how gyp says you owe me like I just did you a huge favor. His character was one of the best in the show he got offended by everything. He thought everyone was insulting him.
I couldn't believe Tonino said, "I'm sorry" as he stabbed Gyp in the heart. He should have been loving every moment. Or better yet, he should have said, "Now you owe me."
@GravityLee He wasn't apologetic at all. It was a sarcastic "I'm sorry, I got it" as he stabbed him the second time, like "I'm sorry I didn't get the first one right, here's another stab"
I genuinely really liked Tonio I thought he was a very interesting character and portrayed by a very good actor. I genuinely really felt for him. Bobby Cannavale is a truly great actor too
@@deathrager2404Whateva happen there. Whateva happen there. I'LL TELL YOU WHAT FUCKING HAPPEN. THIS PIECE OF SHIT'S COUSIN PUT SIX BULLETS IN THE KID WITHOUT PROVOCATION
Imagine someone doing something terrible to you then having the nerve to say "you owe me" afterwards. He was begging to get stabbed in the back after that. Literally.
All Gyp wanted was his brother's appreciation and love. If only Gyp's brother showed affection Gyp would not have been a sociopath. Gyp is just a spunky misunderstood antihero. Better call Gyp!
Out of all the deaths in Boardwalk Empire this one was the most brutal I seen, he beat the hell out of that mans head that’s as vicious as it gets! I had to turn my head when I first watched this scene!
There was a small inconsistency. Gyp says his dad was a bricklayer. Even in Sicily that's a decent living. But he also claimed that they lived in a literal cave.
+maroDC5 Considering that he was probably gonna leave him there to drown when the tide came up, I suppose Gyp figured he was doing him a favor, killing him quickly.
I like how it plays on the metaphoric level. Everything is twisted & upside down but oddly enough, symmetric. As this is the beach gyp is killed on by the same guy.
His own physical strength and ignorance was his weakness. Like that saying a Great Boss will always hire someone smarter then him. Gyp didn't like to be corrected. It made him feel incompetent.
1:44 Tonino responds “you know how it is” and based on what we saw with Gyp, he knows all too well. Maybe in his sick mind he thought he was doing Tonino a favor by killing a loud mouth, something he deals with with his own family. Then says “you owe me” as if he did him a favor
I bet if Tonino pulled his piece out to kill Gyp in defense of his relative , the henchmen would of let it happen , the henchmen looked disgusted with a look on there faces saying "really dude !?"
I like how the character of gyp is introduced to us wearing nice suits, his attitude and his inferiority complex setting up his struggle to become more then the commoner he was born as, and yet when the character "passes on" he's in popper like attire, out of his mind and left like trash himself on a beach.
The way he's talking about his father's work as a bricklayer reminds me a little of Chalky White talking about his fathers skills as a carpenter - lived poor, died poor, but worked hard and did good work, even though he died young, and although Gyp and Chalky both want more out of life and are willing to lead a dishonest life to get it, they're both proud of their fathers work. I think even when he mentioned his father coming home smelling of sweat there was some pride in his voice, like a 'he did mens work, real work'. That could just be me though
Gyp isn't proud of his father's work, he's disparaging him for working too hard and dying early. He doesn't mention his father's skill just how he would have lived longer as a fisherman. Yeah because fisherman in early 20th century Italy was a safe job.
I think he meant he was doing Tonino a favor by cutting him loose from his familial bonds to his unfortunate cousin that Gyp thinks so little of. When Gyp says "family, eh?" I can't help but picture him being badgered by his wife and family back home. Guy's got issues.
Interesting how the "you owe me" could be interpreted in many ways. The way I saw it, he was going to have Tonino kill the guy, but since Gyp "respects" Tonino, Gyp did the killing himself.
Home boy was flying way too close to the sun all fucking season but this was the point he finally burnt his wings. Dude was way too much of a loose canon for being as low on the totem poll as he was! Glad his second hand man was the one who killed him.
This pretty much had the employee moral boosting as Stannis burning his daughter. Once you men see you as a loose cannon who is willing to attack them for the slightest slight then you will loose the trust and loyalty of those men. There is discipline and then there is being a lunatic like Gyp was here.
Loved BWE and loved the character, this without a doubt is one of the most violent and gruesome deaths I have seen. In all the horror shows and such I have seen. This one is just gruesom and shocking.
He should have gone Defcon 5 right there and right that time, "Scarface", final scene, bazookas under each arm, "say hello to my little friend!" and all the capos would have thank him for it.
As those of us who watched this terrific series know, "what goes around, comes around" and Chip pays dearly for this and his many other transgressions. I have to say that the actor who played Chip did a great job and Chip Rosetti became one of the better villians ever portrayed in a TV series.
Why none of them blew his brains out then I have no idea. They all had the guns he had a shovel. If someone killed him then and there not one of the group would have done anything about it
In reality he would've had to kill Tanino too.... he'd never be able to trust him again... I wouldn't...but then again if I was in that position and was gonna clip a guy whose related to one of my guys...I'm not gonna do it in front of him...I'd want maximum deniability..
@Ethan Rhodes And yea I'm violent and most likely a psychopath and so what ? I found the violence funny. Do I have to laugh at only jokes you say I can laugh at ? Since your such a stickler for numbers how about you work out this equation: 1 douchebag + 1 meaningless RU-vid comment = ?
