Great follow-up video. I wonder how many people read the fine print before bidding. If there's one take away from your video, it's that folks should think ahead and have a plan.

I just bought at auction a 19 ft. O'Day Sailboat Mariner 1964, it had everything you need including a trailer. All it needed was pressure washed and polish the gelcoat to look good again. I gave 67 bucks for it, what a deal. It cost me more to get the title and registration for 2 years. Just need some nicer weather to take it out on the water.

Got it - This is your new "Boat Auction Channel". It's great info and very eye opening as some of the interiors look devastated. On the outside it may look like a great deal, but surely once you get in to the nitty gritty, let alone the condition of the inside, it's like opening a massive can of worms. Yikes! I've no idea why your video came up for me, but I'm glad it did because I like your video and I'm playing catch-up right now. I think the rules for the auction all seem really fair. And having to take the boat out for six months makes total sense if you plan on totally refurbishing it. I don't think I'd want to sleep on a boat that I didn't know was reasonably water tight.

Thanks for all the important information. I posted a question on the first RU-vid, then I saw the info at the end. I think a big issue for most people will be finding a place to take it out of the water where you can rent space and work on it. That could be difficult. I have no clue what the tow service costs are say from that marina to San Pedro or other nearby area.

Nice job good information and that’s what my old man had as a Catalina 30 nice sailing boat. I still got the fatty knees 8 feet right now she’s a good sailor a good rowboat will hold a 2 1/2 hp and get you wherever you want to go. I will have fun with that this summer. I sure would love to live on a boat that you do that a little bit in your marina with my dad was there enjoyed it dearly can’t get it out of your blood

Hey Andy, I'm curious about whether they give you any idea as to the condition of the engines or outboards? So, if you can't move the boat under power then what? If you need to do some work that is a safety concern, 6 days isn't very long, a month maybe. FYI in my area a 1982 Catalina 30 tall rig like yours just sold for $26,000. The boat was in good shape with new sails. Anyway, anyone who buys from an auction, buyer beware, know what you're getting into. Great Video Andy, Fairwind and sunny days.

In Cali, You Also Have to Have a Boater Card. Currently It's Only for People 35 Yrs Old, and Younger, but New Law Being Phased in, and by Sometime in 2025, EVERYONE, Regardless of Age, Will Require a Boat card.

Does the marina where the auction is located have haul out capability? If one were to buy a boat could he get it lifted onto a trailer?

I've never wasted my money on boat insurance. Three sailboats, several marinas.

I was into sailing back in the 90's when I rented a slip for a 40footer in Florida for $75 Today it's hard to find a slip for that kind of a boat for $500 a month Damn marinas have priced boating out of most people's range, OBVIOUS GREED

Does it cost anything to be registered to be a buyer?? What type of title do they provide? Are these abandoned boats or sold by owner? thanks for the show

i would say the drivers license is to confirm the identity of the new owner. IE, i buy a boat and it sinks. I run off. The marina is responsible for salvage. By having some legal ID, the new owner will have a proven identity and a bill of sale becomes legal.

I do not have a place to live, is there some chances that you can help me? I maybe think that I can live in a boat, if I can find the cheapest price in boat auction.

With my sailboat my marina requires insurance...insurance requires a survey to insure boat is seaworthy and will not sink, even at dock. Survey requires out of water inspection of hull and thru hull fittings. Then in water inspection of hull and all a safety required equipment. Also general condition of the vessel. Vessel must be able to move under self power (Run from a hurricane if required to a new port). These sailboats look like they have more work required then seven days will allow? Can USA Coastguard refuse to allow an unsafe vessel to put to sea to be moved to a new port? If you are a solo sailor maybe not, but any crew onboard that's a total different story. As soon as you leave that dock you are the captain in a legal world, responsible to insure the safety of all onboard. In my area we have nice looking boats being crushed because they have aged out and no insurance firm wants the risk.

If I was to purchase a boat from this auction I'd probably trailer the boat immediately to lower the stress of finding insurance !

Hi! What I don't understand is this: Why didn't the auctioneers at least remove the trash, pump out the water and do some very basic cleaning of those boats? I think they'll sell for a lot more then.

Quick Question: How Do You Know How Much Marine Fees Are? People Should Be Reminded, If There Are marine Fees Due, You Must Pay for the Fees. The marine Fees are Applied to the Vessel, and Not the Owner. So, Basically the Marine Puts a 'Lean' on the Boat, and in Order to Get the Title in Your Name, You Have to Satisfy All Leans.

Not one mention of a survey. You need a survey for insurance.

You don't have to be a US citizen to get a driver's license 😮

The Drivers lic is an odd one. That does not mean you are a U.S. Citizen. At all. It just means you have a contract with the DMV to drive. Also they let people that are not U.S. Citizens buy homes/property. I know people who are not doing away with Drivers Lics. As it Not a Privilage to drive but a Right. You can look that up. That a big one to explain. I.D. should be enough. If that what they need.
