Great talk, Graham. They're really lucky to have you in charge of the shop, and to keep up the traditions.

Suggestion for Graham McKay please have someone video you building boats with some written/oral instruction. (a young recruit/volunteer perhaps) In this way he can pass on knowledge without too much time spent. Also he could post these videos onto his RU-vid channel raising some funds for the museum. Answer questions posted in the comments section. Preserve knowledge. A win win situation. For ideas search RU-vid there are hundreds offering free tutorials here preserving crafts. I love RU-vid! Thank you for an interesting talk.

Perhaps Wherrie was spelt Wherry? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfolk_wherry. As the wikipedia says there were many versions built to suit sailing conditions. One design adapted over time. With all "American items" their origins will most probably be Europe as this is where most people originated and so take their knowledge with them to the new world. As for the term boat perhaps the person building it didnt know the name from his childhood but knew the design so they built "boat". Banks Dory. Perhaps Mr Banks from Scotland adapted the Dory so they could be easily stackable. I will wager Graham McKay can trace his lineage all the way back to the highlands of Scotland.
