I don't know why but everything feels magnified when it's just you, your boat and hundreds of miles of ocean around you. The emotional rollercoaster is real and it doesn't take much to swing you in either direction. I think this is just the reality of life at sea! What do you think?

Hey there! We're Nick and Terysa and we’ve become completely obsessed with the idea of sailing around the world and sharing our experiences and information through our sailing lifestyle videos with others.
We met travelling around India, and quickly agreed that rather than “settling down” and doing what most normal people do, we wanted to travel and have adventures! We moved onto our 38 foot monohull in 2014, sailed across the Atlantic twice, cruised the Caribbean, Bahamas and Europe, before buying a brand new 45 ft catamaran!
We hope you enjoy what we do. Please subscribe, like and share.

The thing about travel is - the travel itself is frustrating and a hassle. Once you get to where you want to go, then it's all good. Dolphins! I don't know of anyone who doesn't get a smile on their face when they see them in the wild! They epitomize freedom.

Thank you ! As a traveler myself, I asked for such video several times. It's a glimpse and I know it's always different with the dynamics. I never lived on a boat but I can now imagine a little when it's just filming "random" times without a voice explaining. How lovely, thank you guys.

Some amazingly ill informed and depressing comments! I had to watch the video twice to make sure I didn’t miss something awful. Turns out I didn’t - perhaps they’re just jealous - I know I am! Let’s look at what we saw: - Comfortable motor sail in light conditions 😊 - good boat speed from the look of it even on one engine that you’d have been very happy with on RR1 😊 - 90° tacking angle while motor-sailing at good speed in very light airs - amazing! 😊 - Shackle pin and batten car (that, incidentally, were made by a company like Ronstan or Harken not Seawind) came loose. 😢 - Weather lovely - even if light winds 😊 - Able to cook pasta on the salmon/cockpit standing up! 😊 - Dolphins!! 😊😊😊 - Modern AIS and Radar all working as aids to avoid collision. 😊 - Night watches in no rain and calm weather. 😊 - Sunny day 😊 - Bird perching on the window 😊 - 3 days at sea - and it’s “very very pleasant” 😊 - Australian flag on the port shrouds! 😊😊😊 - Sailing to islands 😊 - Rushing to get somewhere😢😢😢 - “boat is so incredibly comfortable” “I’m happy out here” 😊 - Dolphins “they’re back!” 😊😊😊 - “A slow but mercifully uneventful sail” What’s not to like!

The one piece of advice I was given by the previous owner of my sailing cat was ( have no time limits when cruising , choose your weather to maximise the sailing experience ) Unfortunately you are in a situation where the weather is not in your favour and time is limited, don’t let it bother you in 2 weeks time you will have forgotten about it. We all know it can be stressful at times but it seems your experiences are 10% pleasure but 90% stress. Other cruisers experience/publish less stress, with my family cruising worldwide we were less stressed except in the med. Do you think cruising will be less stressful in the Med or as I experienced the manic congestion may make it much more stressful queuing off the fuel dock blowing in the wind or avoiding swinging boats in congested anchorages, is the Med really the ideal destination ?

How did you investigate 50 boats and then decide on this one? The Wynn's with there H&H seem to have very few issues. But Tula's Adventures adapted instantly to their Seawind. I would really be worried how long that boat lasts! You should invite Tula's to come on board and see how they sail your boat!

Every crusing channel rush from one country to another to beat visa exit times and always having engine troubles or water maker troubles.
@deerfootnz
@deerfootnz 4 месяца назад
Water makers and generators are the two most frequent sources of trouble. Main engines, if properly maintained rarely give trouble with one caveat: good fuel=reliable engine. 98% of main engine problems are fuel related. Visa exit time problems are largely related to passage planning. I believe many RU-vid channels which started as filming their cruising end up as cruising for filming....the wrong way round....so planning where you go to suit your RU-vid obligations. The visa issues are the result of this approach to cruising & passage planning, having said that, the beauracracy in Asia and Central America is unbelievable.

I'm here to quibble. The part that fell out of your mainsail batten car is called a clevis, or more formally, a clevis pin. The shackle is the U shaped piece with 2 holes through it that the clevis pin inserts into. A toggle is 2 shackles linked together with their pins at 90 degrees to each other. This allows it to align with pull from a wide variety of angles while minimizing side load on the shackles. An easy to study example of this is the turnbuckle connection from the bottom of the mast shroud to the metal chain plate connected to the hull of the boat. The clevis pin through the chain plate allows for different angles fore and aft. The T shape on the end of the turnbuckle allows for different angles port and starboard. This prevents side bending loads that could break the turnbuckle. The turnbuckle is free to align straight in line with the pull of the shroud. It's the 2 pivots at 90 degrees to each other that make it a toggle. I'm a quibbler, but I mean well.

Well done guys, nice pick up on the batten car toggle. When you're on the clock for a rendezvous there's not much to be done but suck it up and motor if the winds aren't playing ball. Something I became aware of on my car is that when an engine is producing its peak torque output, it is running at its best fuel efficiency. For my diesel car that's about 2100 rpm. If I'm on a long run or climb, I make especially sure to keep it buzzing along at about those revs. This might be a relevant point for choosing your cruising revs also, depending on at what revs your engines produce their peak torque. Godbless and fair winds, thanks for taking us along!! xx🤗🤗

I love that you guys discussed how constant bearing can lead to collision. In the Navy we call this CBDR or Constant Bearing, Decreasing Range. This is your most important indication of a collision course and its vital for any sailor to understand to prevent dangerous situations. Of course, smaller craft have more maneuverability, but always realize that larger hips cannot stop or turn quickly. AIS also helps if you have it.

For info to anyone who reads these comments: Where a Risk of Collision may exist, if you have RADAR (as Ruby Rose 2 does) turn it ON and use MARPA, or at the very least a VRM and EBL. Using AIS is generally ok and has it place as an Aid to Navigation, but data can not be guaranteed, where as VRM/EBL gives a instant real time picture that can be monitored and MARPA can calculate the CPA and TCPA for you. If you don't know what those acronyms mean, RTFM or speak to somebody who does. They are standard components of RADAR, easy to use and when navigating areas with multiple vessels, the RADAR will track targets for you with visual warnings if a vessel is bearing down.

Since moving onto your new boat, it seems as if your experience has been so different from what you'd imagined -- resulting in daily disappointment and frustration and confusion, rather than fun and joy and appreciation. Hello, human experience! The doorway to happiness is not through having everything go well, but in being able to find and stay focused on gratitude and forgiveness, and becoming present to the exquisite gift of life, however imperfect and difficult. Wishing that you can find a mindset in which beauty and nature and daily joys can come back into focus, so you can let go of broken expectation and all that lies outside your control. If it would be supportive to have an expert on board while you master this giant, powerful new boat, may you find the courage to forgive yourselves for not having it turn out the way you'd wished, and get the support you need.This is not meant as criticism, I feel great compassion for you, as being a vlogger exposes your vulnerabilities. However, wanting the happiness groove to return for you! Best, Lee

Can someone explain to me the big problem of going 4 to 5 knots and arriving a day later, I'm not an expert but I thought that's why you tac and jibe to go with the wind surely that's sailing or am I completely wrong here

Nobody wants to beat into the wind a moment longer than they have to. Especially when you have a ship to catch.

Your boat seems to be badly built. So many many issues.

@@hanssolo4everOver a 20 year period I owned 3 sailboats, all purchased brand new. By comparison my experience was very very few issues. In fact I can't recall discovering substantive issues as I can only assume the builder (a famous yard out if Rhode Island) simply has superb quality and procedures and processes. Hence I bought 3 sailboats of the same brand/builder. While a shake down sea trial is of course intended to uncover "normal issues" indeed I find it "abnormal" to have to encounter such disappointing oversights.
