Aladino strikes again, elegant solutions with incredible craftsmanship
@dwel2928

Elegant is exactly the word. By minimizing the complexity of the joinery & trim he lets the beauty of the wood grain and color show through. The humility but great skill & vision of a true & confident craftsman.

One of the things that many lacks is vision. Aldino had a fascinating ability to picture the end result and execute his vision with simplicity and craftsmanship. 👏🎬

Among many other things I admire in what you do is the order you have in everything. Each time you use a tool, it is sent back to its place. It may take a few extra seconds, but you earn minutes in the end. Thank you!

I love to see that the many decisions for renovations are truly an equal collaborative effort. With both of you providing your opinions and working out the final approaches to solve the problem and come up with imaginative solutions. Your love and respect for one another is wonderful to witness each week. Keep up the hard work and providing all of us a front seat to the complete renovation of Magic Carpet II. Thank you for the Violin interludes. I watch and listen to Maya’s RU-vid Violin playing frequently. Love it!

Your design process makes complete sense for you. Being in the boat every day as it starts to go back together you get a real feel for how the space will work for you. Something that is so much harder to do with pencil and paper (or even 3-D CAD). It looks so good with the cushions in with you and your violin. By the way, what an upgrade that mic is over the old days recording on your cell phone. Sounds great!

Our 68 Egg Harbor had our settee that turned into a double. The back rest was part of the bed like a futon. Just lifted it up and slid forward. You could do something similar like that to the left/port side, like a hidden foldout that you use backrest to make double/queen.

Our Aloha 32 had an expandable settee. It slid out and rested on teak rails that were attached to the bulkhead and the front of the settee. The slideout laid on top of the settee and the trim (fiddle) on the settee was actually only attached to the plywood expander. When you slid it out the trim came with it and served to hold the mattress in. When you slid it back in there were two drop pins that served to hold it in place underway. You could not see it was there when it was put away. On another note, I hear you bumped into my family in the Netherlands a few days ago. Such a small world.

I am very impressed how clean you keep your shop. That is my pet peeve with so many shops, they don't clean as they go. Aladino is a true craftsman, I'm always impressed with his work as it's not always about what you can see, but more about what you can't that makes the difference. So Maya, where are you putting the environmentally controlled storage unit for your beautiful violin? Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more of what you do.

I love you have dreams and are working to fulfill them. Aladino is an amazing craftsman! Sorry to be critical, but there is one thing my wife cringe about in every video. That's not using nautical langaue when talking about your boat. We were living aboard during much of the four years when we built our dream boat. Plus, the shop was two miles from our boat. great video today. Aladino had patience. As a woodworker for 50+ years, I know how important that is. Too often projects are messed up by not taking enough care. Wanting to see the finished product too quickly. I also envision things in my head very well, with notes on the drawings rather than perfect renderings. I like imagining what I want, thinking out the solutions while lying in bed... I have a small cabin where I wanted to make a bench, that folded down into a bed, (single) and I made the backrest and the seat as a rigid component, with a piano hinge on the front of the seat. All folds up and over and the backrest becomes the support for the extension as the seat unfolds to widen the bed. Not perfect, in that it turned out to be a bit more awkward than desirable, but it works very well. Carved "hands" into the armrests, that connect the backrest and seat... And like the music this morning too....

The down hinging back is an interesting idea. The down side is those partitions support the backrest so it doesn't felex and transitions the load into the hull when you lean against them. So long as you put a top or some other bracing that contacts the hull while closed it should work out. I would go with the flush top below the top of the sette so that it can be a shelf while closed. Then you just have to decide what you might put on it as it would need to move when you swing it down to open it.
