This video shows some of the processes involved in the recovery of a small vinyl boat seat.
The vinyl is first glued then sewn to trim foam, panels are then sewn and/or piped together. Once all sewn, it can be fitted to the base board with stainless steel staples.
Hope you enjoy it, remember to sub and turn notifications on

Damn dude, You are really good at this. And that scrap of fabric to catch the thread... that is magic. So simple and so smart.

Can you explain what the purpose is for the scrap of fabric?

Keeps the thread in a ready position? I'm gonna try that.

Excellent video. I could watch you work all day. Great tutorial also. I'm a beginner, getting ready to tackle my first set of boat cushions.. this helped tremendously

Thanks for watching, and best of luck with the boat seats. Piping can be tricky so take it slowly and carefully

This is a nice tutorial, it shows how to save time :-) (nice to see what you do with that small piece of cloth what you use to save time when changing parts)

Hey, thanks for watching. It saves time and a spare hand from holding the threads each time. At that point thread tension can slip or jam the machine, so the small piece really saves everything

I should have done my own backseat on my jet boat at least it would have been done right like this guy did. Nice job. I might have to redo the bottom cushion of my seat so next time I’m doing it myself

Hey thank you mate! It does take a while to get confident with it, but practice makes perfect. Start small and build your way into it, you can do it!!

I just don't understand how the side pieces worked out to be even. You measured from a square cushion and then you cut the corners round. Maybe I flunked geometry but I thought that would be a different distance for a round corner. Just Asking!
@stitchingsteve
@stitchingsteve 4 месяца назад
If I had cut the top vinyl to the correct size it would have changed and become smaller once I added the backing foam. So marked oversize (square), then laminated, then shaped to the cushions radii's and also going off centre measurements to keep symmetrical. Both side boarder and piping are cut oversize and trimmed down accordingly. If the job requires exact side boarders then "finished size" perimeter needs to be plotted and marked accordingly. Hope that makes sense

Is that scrap piece of vinyl used so you don't have to hold the ends of the thread when starting a new line?
@stitchingsteve
@stitchingsteve 10 месяцев назад
That is exactly that. Holds the thread ready for the next stitch and keeps the tension at the same time. No more binding or jamming threads in the bobbin

Fantastic, but does not need repetitive music.
@stitchingsteve

Hey Scott, thanks for watching though. Have dialled the music right back, thought the sounds from the vinyl and foam might have been too squeaky for some. Like nails on a chalkboard

I just got into fabric welding, but what blows my mind is, he's making the piping as he's welding it on?! Lol what?! Is this normal? I just made 100 feet of piping to put on afterwards? Am I doing this wrong?
@justinw523
@justinw523 Год назад
How do you weld piping onto the edges of a seat cushion without having to rip the vinyl completely off and having to start over on the sides of the seat? The upholstery guy didn’t add piping where I told him I wanted it and it was like hear it is take it or leave it situation
