Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, Ben! I wanted to weigh in with some ideas I've developed during 20+ years of car-topping Boat position Slightly bow down to stop headwind from lifting the bow. *NEVER bow up!* Parallel to centerline of car or slightly towed-in when seen from above Slightly shifted back to expose less of bow and more of stern I prefer the boat to be right side up - I believe less wind collects under bow Rack Wide spacing between crossbars If vehicle does not allow wide spacing install V-Bars from Goodboy Kayaks If vehicle roof is lower towards the back, spacer or extra padding should be used to get the boat in a slightly bow down position Bow/Stern lines 1:40 shows a tent peg hitch. This can slip in side wind/buffeting from large truck backwash especially if it gets wet. Half hitches should be tight against the loop that attaches to vehicle. Then use tent peg hitch to secure the loose end of the line. 2:10 shows a clove hitch around the boat. This can slip, allowing the boat to move to the side. I prefer one loop around the boat with 2 half hitches. Safety flag on stern Required by law, I think. Not shown in your video because you're towing a trailer.
