Honestly these DIY videos are my favorite by far. It would also be neat to see the architect / designer rendering plan for the new space

silly the designed layout is an evolved design which is locked away in Dan and Kikas imagination which is supported with over 10 years of hands on experience . Responsible Boat layout designers work successfully alongside and with Dan and Kika . the leapfrogging developments of Oceanvolt clearly show how teamwork can lead to huge leaps in development with massive performance in battery regen gains ..

I've almost stopped tuning into the channel. The "oh it's the van again, I'll pass" has started to be a more frequent thing that's happening. I can go treking on dry land or go for a hike or a drive. There's something about the adventures of sailing, boating, and living on the sea (even if that's at the dock) that makes your channel hit the spot, I guess. I enjoy the channel. I enjoy the two of you. I REALLY enjoy feeling closer to the water. Stay healthy physically and mentally! Nothing but love and thanks for your great content, great personalities, and sharing life with us!

😅I think I like boat work videos better than I like actual sailing videos. But I've always been one of those nutters who would rather buy a house that needs complete renovation or a vintage car that needs total restoration. I've always derived pleasure from upgrading and returning old things to their former beauty.

More boat work please. I've watched all these years because UMA is a sailboat show. Another major remodel is a really big blow but, I'm willing to see what you two come up with in this tiny space. Two architects in a floating property? We've watched you transform UMA before so here we go again 🙂

Well….. this is far more entertaining to watch then camper stuff and hiking videos. My vote goes to boat work and maybe a design of the intended end goal. Boat upgrade plans? Wiring details? Maybe a break down of the steps…. like with pictures for us. What is your expected time frame to completion?….. anything but more camper videos. BTW… enjoyed the boat show segment.

Yes I do enjoy seeing the ‘fun’ demolition parts as well as the necessary vanning around parts. Italy is a premo site for all activities unique to you two avoiding that couch albatross. Show me the inside of some of that food yall happen to dine on when splurging, that’d please me. That’d certainly top off the channel spectrum to be ‘complete sailing life video’; what’s to live for , you ask, I’ll tell ya!!!’ I’m so excited to see the pristine hull but am totally invested in seeing yalls new ergonomic/strategic layout of space and systems. Gotta see the blank first. Getting there. Thanks for all you both do to take us along on the life journey.

I'm starting a similar boat remodel myself. Thank you for including some of the details of your demolition! It's very helpful to see how to physically take a boat apart. You are a real inspiration. Like you, after sailing full time for a few years now, I really want to have the chance to remake my boat to have the layout and features that I know I want. Thanks for the update. I'm so glad to hear you are making such serious progress on your big project. I had a friend who used to make fifty two or sixty five foot boats for bare boat charter back in the nineteen eighties. I think it did take about 2 years for his 2 guys to build a simple sailboat. They didn't have all of the stuff involved that you guys are doing. They were just very simple boats. Also, that was before we had anything besides paper charts for navigation. We used an ice chest and often had an electric freezer that was just your basic four by four foot chest freezer that we added block ice to and plugged in when we could. I am so glad that you have found a place that will let you work at the pace that it's going to take to get the job done the way you want it.

Hey guys, I’ve been watching since the beginning. I just want to say that while I personally really appreciate the beautiful cinematic videos that you create, I also think that your more “homemade” videos are just as interesting to watch. Have you guys considered making a watertight bulkhead aft part of the rebuild? Lots of production boats sink as a result of something hitting the rudder and ripping a big hole in the bottom as the rudder+bearings are torn out. (see: Spanish Orca attacks, 2019 Transpac sinking, and others) A full height bulkhead forward of the rudder post adds a lot of safety in that situation. Ideally, you'd add a new bulkhead a couple feet in front of the rudder post and find a solution for the rudder cables that puts them above the waterline. In most production boats that would divide the cockpit locker in half though... Maybe seal off the cabin area from the cockpit locker&steerage? You'd need to engineer it to be water tight and support the dynamic load of water sloshing around back there, but at face value that doesn't seem overly difficult given the scope of Uma 2.0

I love your channel..I can totally relate to what you are doing on your boat, I am in the process of restoring a 1974 Ericson 37, that the owner for 25, turned into a project boat for 15 years, probably because the gelcoat on the deck was crazing (like the side of the hull currently is), was redone and primed. When I got it everything was off the deck and the two hatches were just sitting on the deck. The work that didn't make sense to me was below deck where all of the custom headliners were removed and thrown away, the forward cabin was gutted, and the cabin sole gel coat was ground off with a Dremel, leaving a weird uneven pattern, all the lighting wires were cut. And of course, it had never had a holding tank. I now have it sailing, but still lots of work to do. It is amazing how a seemingly 15-minute project can turn into days because of all of the steps involved.

Most boat projects are uncharted territory. So seeing behind the walls of someone else’s boat can be a big help. I watch all the videos out there for each project I do on my boat. Take what I learn to formulate my own plan of attack. Really is a lifestyle living on a boat.

A team of 3 of us at a yard went through what you are going through. A 40 footer set on the hard for 4 years. The owner was out of the country. He call for a launch, and we found water up to the countertops. We had to pull anything made with wood out after draining the boat. A new set of panels l was ordered from the builder. Not a single panel fit this yacht, the boat was redesigned and set up for CNC cutting and nothing matched. As a result we had to start from a bare hull … except the engine which we pulled out and replaced with a new engine. It took us 7 months after we had gutted the yacht. … so about 10 months. The insurance covered the whole deal.

I'm back after a few months away :) I found myself getting frustrated at the lack of demo and reno videos on the boat, so I had taken a break. I was reflecting as I was watching the video, and I realized that the boat channels that I still follow are the ones that I got involved with during boat renovations, and then keep following them as they set out on new adventures. I don't find the minutiae of work on the boat boring, nor do I feel that you need to wrap up projects in one video. This is a pretty big project you've undertaken, and it's going to take a while. I'm totally fine with watching some of the other activities that you're doing as part of your life, including van life and climbing and what not, but the main thing that brought me here was Uma and the sailing. I don't find the renovations boring, and the lack of boat content or updates was the reason that I had unsubscribed for a while. It's great to witness your determination as you move forwards towards getting Uma back on the water :) and now I'm going to pull the marathon and watch all the videos that i missed ❤

Yes please keep posting these “boring boat work” videos, makes me feel like I’m not alone in the struggle 😅 it’s always daunting to realise how far down you dig yourself in a project, but we know there’s always a point when things turn around and you start building up again, see the light at the end of the tunnel, keep up the good work 😊 looking forward to the next videos

Of course we want to see it all! Lol! I don't know about anyone else but I know that there is a lot going on other than the fun stuff. But it's all part of the project.

I’ve been refitting my boat for a few years….battery upgrade, auto pilot, refrigeration…..etc. I enjoy seeing your improvements because it gives me ideas on other ways of doing things. Thank you

Don't apologize for all the work you do, it's what makes your channel interesting. (to me at least). Do show the small things, the more detail the better!

Love the behind the scenes boatwork. Not every boatwork video has to be a story! This whole end to end refit is its own story and its nice when we get to see some of the more nitty gritty of that journey you're on.

I really enjoy episodes that deal with the nitty gritty of rebuilding your boat. I would like to see more of what I saw today. I look at other sites like Ran sailing and Sampson Boat Company, and the Duracell project and never tire of see how they do things and the explanations they give of what they are doing.

Keep chugging away, we love to see it. You've made excellent decisions on what to show and what to skip. What you're doing is working whatever it is!

I've spent the last 8 years refitting a '75 Cal 2-46. Not quite as extensive as you guys, but similar (without all the video work). It's absolutely comical that people think you're taking your time. XD Keep on keepin' on. Genuinely hope we cross paths one day.

The boat work was why I started watching this channel. However, as with everything in life we grow and evolve. So I appreciate the effort made to produce good quality content on any topic. The places you go takes me where I can't go and the scenes you film show me things I would not see. So van life, boat life or any other travel life is great. Thanks for the effort to produce these great content videos. Keep it up. 🥰

YES! on showing boat work. It is the core foundation of all that makes rebuilding and maintaining a boat a reality. Thanks for asking.

thanks for these sorts of videos. There is a lot of romantic content out there and it's all swimming in tropical waters and discovering new anchorages. This is a big project but there are 1,000,000 little ones for boat owners and it never ends. Great honest video!

Your boat is going to be amazing when it is done. I love the boat work episodes, I feel it is an important part of your journey, even if it seems mundane to film, I also understand the extra time it takes to film. I remember the water catchment system going in, and find it interesting how the layers of history of the boat are being stripped back. Keep some boat build stuff in, and I also enjoy the RV adventures you go on.

I’ve been watching you guys for a number of years and my question is, why hasn’t no company sponsored you yet? This is at least the second time I want to repair this boat!

I started following you 2 when you took on the Atlantic(another monumental task in a 27ft'er). I seemed to settle on 3 different sailboats to follow. And of the 3, looking at your gear and overall sailing knowledge and confidence, I would've assumed that you 2 were by far the best funded. But one boat crew, that you 2 met Atticus, was already replaced by a newer, roomier boat. Your ambition, confidence, and practical intelligence to boldly enter new endeavors never ceases to amaze me. I kinda think you 2 could've afforded a new boat, maybe not. But your skill at making videos, and adaptability to new situations, and stamina for undertaking these monumental tasks is just awe inspiring. I can't wait to see how your newly designed boat turns out. Good luck!

We refuse to go into debt for a newer, bigger boat. We also don’t want to start a go-fund-me to raise the funds. So we keep working with what we have.

Filming videos gets in the way of the work. I don't film my work while I do it . I am thankful for that. Thanks again for your presention of your project.

Chugging along. Sataying motivated to get the necessary mundane items taken care of. Lots of repetitive, time consuming tasks. Ums keeps getting lighter and more accessible.
