Part 2 of the Arima Shakedown! The weather finally allowed for us to cruise San Francisco Bay in the Arima Sea Chaser 17. This is my first boat and I'm determined to learn everything about it as well as general boating skillset.
That 17’ Seachaser is a great boat. Went out on a buddies a few times and had to have one also, so I went out and found a 87’ 15’ Sea Sprinter a couple years ago and have been using it regularly here in South Puget Sound since. That extra 2’ makes a world of difference, I will be upsizing at some point, but still love the lil bro.
Rule of thumb for outboard 2-strokes, 10% of horsepower is your fuel consumption at max throttle. So assuming a 100hp like yours, for an hour of running wide open you will have burned roughly 10 gallons of gas. Run at 75% throttle on plane and you cut that figure in half burning roughly 5 gallons of gas at in an hour. It's a rule of thumb so every engine is different depending on make, model, and year. However those numbers shouldn't be far off unless you are running an E-tec. E-tecs are a whole different story and burn much more efficiently outdoing even some 4-strokes. I also have a similar boat and I don't know if it will be the same for you but if you tilt the engine back up a little bit after getting it on plane the steering frees up immensely and it handles like a whole different boat. It shouldn't take much but if yours is the same you will feel it and don't lift it any higher. *Edit for grammar*
