I always loved the community lots in sim 1. I used to love going and buying gifts for all my sim's friends, like the chocolates and the teddy bears. I know you can recreate these kinds of shops in sims 2 but there's just something about the sims 1 shopping experience that's so fun! There's actually a mod that I consider a must for sims 1, it's called something like the calendar mod where it adds days and weeks and gives your sims 2 days off of work a week.
I'm super feverish, I needed something comforting and a Sims 1 video is perfect. Oh the nostalgia. I played it until 2 came out and sometimes still get back to it for the challenge that is the superstar and the magic pack
I miss the Sims 1 music so much. I do listen to the soundtrack on a very regular basis, but i miss it in the game. I like sims 2 & 3 music too but the original sims holds a LOT of nostalgia for me. Also, some of the simlish sounds, like Micheal Bachelors laugh at tv, the maid whistling, and the tv commercials.
We can settle the live mode debate by looking at the game in other languages. In French for instance it's called "Mode Vie" which basically translates to "Life mode", so it's meant to be the mode where sims live, not the mode where the game is live 😅
It makes me wonder about brandi broke childhood backstory. Were her parent's marriage bad? Judging by the sims 1it seems pretty clear, poor brandi.❤ Great video as always Cindy.
Sims 4 is like 10 years old, most people I know (gen Z like me) has only played Sims 4 (some have a vague memory of Sims 3 and are not sure if they got to play it at some point). My computer had Sims 1 and I had the opposite experience growing up playing the Sims 1 wanting to have Sims 4 because I thought it was better and when I finally got it I got bored in a week. At some point I realized that the best games were in between (Sims 2 and Sims 3, Sims 1 is not bad with all the expansions) Now I only play Sims 2 and be always trying to convince my friends that it is better than Sims 4, some of my friends are amazed just by the fact that the map of the world is 3D instead of a cartoon with no customisation.
Oh my gawd, this takes me back. This is the game that started it all for me, the hours I spent playing this obsessively ❤ thank you for doing this Cindy x
I tried it again recently and was surprised by how refreshing the challenge felt compared to the current games! It's more slow-paced and you look forward to every paycheck, because you see how a new chair or fridge immediately makes your sims' lives easier. I do suggest new players take a look at the manual or prima guide to understand how personality or socializing works, that really trips people up.
I would be super interested in seeing you playing sims1 in a series 🥰 Its such a great game and i think it deserves to get more attention. Also it would be nice to see what happens in your game and how you play the game, compared to 2, 3 and 4.

I remember having Complete Collection with Makin' Magic and always trying to use that "Age of Instant" spell in order to age up children to adults and advance my families, but sadly with a completely randomized selection and a lack of DNA in the Sims 1 it wouldn't always feel 100% real. Still, a very fun game to play even in 2024, I totally agree on that
I remember how exciting it was to be able to go somewhere when the Hot Date expansion came out. And it worked better than the later games in many ways. You could make an actual mall with different stores, and they'd go to the correct register to check out and stuff. I tried doing that in 2, and they would go to registers in other stores to check out. And you couldn't really make shopping centers in 3. And 4 stupidly only allows certain objects to be used at certain lot types. Very disappointing to me. And agree that Sims 1 soundtrack is the best one.
So, “Live” mode was intended to be as in living - its slogan was “Build. Buy. Live.” in TS1… but I say it how you do anyway lol. Also an issue with Complete Collection: premade Sims that were in the main area of the game prior to Hot Date - like the Goths and Newbies, but not Sims that were added in the Unleashed expansion - need to visit an outside lot to have their interests reset or else they don’t have any and as a result are very difficult to grow a relationship with. (You can see Betty’s lack of interests for a split second at 4:41)
Live mode (the way you say it) 100% You play a simulation of life. My pet peeve is people who say live (like liv-ing room) mode. WRONG!! And yes, maybe do a mini-series of the families in Sims 1. Maybe like 3 episodes per family or something.
I really wish Bob & Betty were still around in the Sims 2, I would love to be able to invite them to Brandi's wedding or even just move Brandi in with them so she has a bit of help until she gets off her feet again (or finds a second husband)! Maybe Maxis thought that being an option was "too easy" though XD
Just a simple way to give your sims in the sims1 more of a sense of an aspiration: when creating a sim, make your sim a child and give them a simple name like "m". Finish the sim without any personality points or further edits. Before saving the family, edit the sim to an adult with your preferred name, looks and personality points. This will (at least in ultimate collection) give your sim a bunch of skill points, now go find a job suitable to that skill set, or determine whether your sim has what it takes to become famous or magic. This has been the way I've been playing the sims1 and I like it a lot, it gives my sims more of an feeling of personality and aspirations.
I pronounce it with the short “i” because it made logical sense to me as a nine year old. Build mode is where you build, buy mode is where you buy, and live mode is where you live.
I say live in the way that rhymes with dive. I still play Sims 1 now and then. It is hard to keep the motives up and for them to still have a life beyond work and keeping up with needs. I love Superstar and Makin' Magic.
I've always said 'Live Mode' like the verb, 'to live', because build and buy are also verbs so to me that has always made sense. But having heard other people say it the other way, I think they're both equally valid. Is there actually an official way to say it or is it up to interpretation? I played the first game a lot as a child/teenager, but I have never been back to it since playing the second game. I don't think I'd want to play a game without wants and fears.
Funny, I was just playing a lot of Sims1 lately! Playing with Makin Magic. Finally built my witch a big witchy cabin. Sims1 sims are always so easily tired and uncomfortable... relatable lol. ALSO, idk if this is well known, but I had such a hard time getting my sims to make friends with any npc sims... I found out you have to send the pre-made sims to another lot and come back and their interests will update, because for some reason half of them are empty at start- which makes them really disagreeable and give negative relationship because they have no interest in shit!

I think given it says "live turns the situation on" in the sims 1 I think it's live as in, jive. But in reality I interchange between both pronunciations
I've been playing TS1 a lot lately. Sometimes the difficulty puts me off, but sometimes it's actually refreshing compared to the other games 😄 It's odd that your screen is so choppy. I play on my windows10 machine and the game runs smoothly.

Team "Live" as in alive. They are Sims simulating actual life and our Alive. Just my feelings on the matter. lol. I wish the Sims 4 ....actually i would rather in the Sims 5 since they would hopefully do a better job with this idea in the next game version. However, I want them to go retro and add to the newest game (The Sims 5) - some most loved items, gameplay, and Cas from each previous version game. Maybe even a few things that arent necessarily loved but -- iconic. They could add the Heart bed with its options, Tragic clown, The therapist guy, burgalars in all their glory. Add the police car that busts teens. Add the spinny whirl thing in. Spiral stairs that they could put in a game nearly 25 years ago but somehow not know how now. And so so much more. It would be such a fun nod to the games past, and nostalgic lore.
Imagining people just bought a CD, plopped it in their computer, and played. Now I don't update TS4 for couple months, and there is 9GB of fixes waiting for me 🤣🤣🤣
I usually say live (like on the air) mode and I'm so happy someone else does too! I've felt like a total doofus hearing everyone call it live (living) mode.
Those flowers around that house were pique style to me when I played Sims 🤣 we got greedy and ended up with Sims 4!!! Crappy game play and pretty things.
I'm team live rhymes with five mode! With Makin' Magic expansion you can use age of instant charm to turn kids into adult sims but there are no genetics so you could end up with weird looking adults. In Win XP we had companion programs to tweak things but windows 10 and up won't let programs interact with the sims files, so if you get ugly sims born in game there's no way to fix it anymore. Another interesting/weird charm in Makin' Magic is A Friend Indeed - permanently turns pets into a sim that the owner can then romance. So bizarre but also fun/funny! I was already an adult (30) when Sims released and I played it exclusively until 2017. Began also playing Sims 2, that year and in 2018 about a month apart I played Sims 3 and Sims 4. Currently mostly play Sims 3 and Sims 2 but Sims 1 is you know THAT game to me. Sims 4 has become like Encanto's Bruno, because Thumper's Mom says if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all, lol. Uhh Sims 4 is very cute/pretty. There. Done. ~FM :)
Huh? It's always been a Live mode to me as the mode where you can progress in the gameplay what do you mean live mode? As in living? I don't get that that sounds silly to me.
Does the internet achieve check their files for viruses? Or has anyone had any experience downloading and installing content from there? I miss the Sims 1 but don't want to risk my computer in the process.
Hey! So i noticed the sims 1 has a lot of instillation and game start up glitches!! whenever i play i “move_objects on” and delete and respawn every sim in the neighbourhood and then there interests are no longer blank and then its way easier to make friends with sims in the neighbourhood!! Im still not super sure if the townies are also glitched but I’ve has this issue every time i start the game! I also had an issue where none of the unleashed sims show up in the neighbourhoods so i copied the unleashed templates to the import folder and then pressed the ingam import button and it put all the unleashes sims in there proper houses.
i honestly think bob and betty didn't have the best relationship i think betty wants bob to have a healthy lifestyle or at least be more hands on in life show more of what he interested in at least and makes an effort and asks betty to join in trying out stuff going out to eat going window shopping once in a while he still that kind of dude who would rather go out and eat then go shopping and playing pool ball walking talking getting bob off his butt and he's trying out new stuff maybe even finding a new hobby along the way and new pjs to possible buy in the near future but once he try's things out new stuff and new subjects new interests at giving all this a chance both for myself and trying to go of his comfort zone and trying to make an effort for betty and their relationship to improve it but betty is pretty much giving bob mixed signs mixed messages here yes she's not in the wrong about being careful about money and theirs nothing wrong but bob is trying met her middle of their interests or at least show her what is interested in even trying new things out but at the same time betty just wants him to be healthier with his life choices but she does seem to be sorta happy that bob is making the effort to show he wants to have a healthier relationship with her and that does care about her and wants to have fun with her and he wants to try things out at least once sure i see him as the comfy and sloppy type but if bob wants to improve his life he does need to what needs to improve that is a big important subject and goal but i feel like trying is mostly nagging him a lot but at same time at the end of this little episode she's happy that he's going out of his comfort zone and making an effort to get out of the house and getting a real job even if it's not a super nice one but at least a job but he's spending a lot money and not being able afford the possible new lifestyle? maybe deep down betty is happy but like 75% of the things they've done she more or less she serious not interested in but she secretly doesn't want him too give up she wants to see if this new chapter of their relationship and if bob can stick with his new job and be better at getting more and well eating healthier at least but betty does seem to like playing pool ball with bob and going out more with her but i get the feeling she wants to wait to see how this will workout before shifting gears with him completely test the waters before her hopes get to high and before bob gets annoyed loses real interests and goes back to his old habits maybe she's telling slow down you and I! can't afford all this nice stuff just yet but who knows maybe she really doesn't doesn't care what bob likes but she could be happy that he's making the effort none the less for the moment hmm i think bob and betty's best high light in their that rise a wonderful person being their daughter brandi i can see why betty was so upset or at least really unsure about brandi marrying skip broke after them showing their disprovable her getting into a serious relationship with skip and that skip broke is a bad person but they don't brandi repeating their mistakes by marrying skip who was born into a really poor but very loving family and plus brandi does have similar interests like her father so i personal think bob and betty didn't approve of the relationship because they didn't want their little girl repeating past mistakes
