Fire! The dynamics in Bob’s vocals….incredible. Awesome performance by the whole band. Just …can’t find the words (other than my usual: “thank you, God, for Bob Dylan!) ✌🏼
@@lewisc215 I loved and learned all of Dylan's songs from 63 to 69. But like many popular song writers he was not much of a player. Even Joan Baez, who loved and praised his songs, mentioned his so so guitar playing and he could barely pound out chords on a piano. Don't let hero worship over whelm reality.
@@lewisc215 All along the Watch tower is a great song but only three chords. I used to teach it to kids just learning to play. Only non musicians would call Dylan a great guitar player. He has an interesting off beat rhythm but not great skills. You can still like him its ok.
This is my first time ever hearing the song's creator perform this live, and it damn sure was worth the wait. Just never ask me who's version I like the best!
Michael McLoughlin I think this is one of the best songs ever written. I can't believe how long ago "John Weslley Hardin" came out. Time flies, but I think this is the best version of this song I've ever heard.(I'm getting old but not senile).
HAY MUCHAS BUENAS VERSIONES...THERE ARE MANY MUCH COVERS ... JIMI! DYLAN! AND OTHERS ...GREAT SONG!!! favorite song!!! favorito tema bueno muchas buenas versiones
As much as I love Bob, I think the best version of this song is by Jimi Hendrix. His influence is apparent in this arrangement. But this is great in any context.
@@larryordine7542 I've heard Dylan play this song many times...never the same way twice. I'm sure it happens but it's been different every time I've seen it.
@@sharonhoyt2133 Yes Dylan usually does alternative arrangements of all his old songs. But this has no relationship to his proficiency as a guitar player. He's a rather basic player. No session player is going to wax on Bobs guitar or piano. You can learn his stuff the first year you start playing. This doesn't detract from his accomplishments.
He saw it, he told us about it. For some people, it went in one in the ear, they thought about it for a minute, and then it went out the other ear. Then they proceeded to buy into the bullcrap. I have the utmost respect for those who never lost sight of the message that comes out of the mess.
one of the few times in music history.... where the creator of the song changed it based on how another artist covered it Jimi made this possibly the greatest song in rock history i would have loved to hear michael bloomfield cover this
Hendrix took this Dylan song and lifted it through the stratosphere. Even Dylan said Hendrix heard things Dylan hadn't considered. If you haven't heard it and you're an aspiring guitarist, go and listen to it as it's basically a tutorial on guitar techniques.
THIS SONG IS SOOO ELECTRIFYING , SPIRITUALLY DEEP DEEP DEEP, & ROUSING!! THINK IT WAS SUPPOSE TO "WAKE THE DEAD"!!--BUT MOST FORGOT OR FELL ASLEEP. !! GD IT ALL TO H E L L & BACK. "THE HOUR IS MUCH TOO LATE" (*IT'S JESUS TO THE THIEF)
Michael McLoughlin to@larryordine-Yes .I like this version better, but the Whole "John Weseley Hardin. Stands the test of time. I'd guess it's the emotion & acoustics" that make this version better (to me at least).
This is Bob the musician and Bob the poet. The music drives forcefully and what’s Bob doing? You can’t really quite call it singing. Seems more like a version of some kind of spoken poetry. I bet it would work if you could strip it down to only the “singing”. What a god.
@@larryordine7542 The story goes that Jimi actually asked Richie Havens, after seeing him perform it, hey man, could you tell me what chords they were ??? Yeah !!!
@@sambone8348 The "story " is bull. It's Am G F with a capo on the fourth fret; to sing in C minor . Jesus. Havens played in open tuning BTW ; just wrapping a big thumb over the finger board. Hendricks played a regular guitar left handed and upside down and was a brilliant studio guitarist. I think his ear was sufficient to figure three chords.
Dylan is an awful stage performer. Because he's Dylan he can get the best musicians so you've these excellent musicians and this weird guy mumbling to himself. He's really ruined Jimi's song. It's an electric guitar masterpiece not some gibberish by a guy who's terrible live. At least he's washed off the Alice Cooper glitter from his face. Or maybe he just ran out of it.
@@user-vu3ds5kj1g Dylan wrote a POS song. All the allegories and metaphors it's been combed over about are about a pay dispute with his company. It's a real shit sandwich. And Jimi took a lump of shit and made a masterpiece out of it. HIS masterpiece.
You are really funny dude. To ridicule the voice and music master who made this masterpiece. Nothing but good about the dead but I don't think Hendrix knew what he was singing about. Actually pretty hilarious if you think about it.
@@constantwireless3290 The "voice and music master" pretty much sums it up for me. I don't do a whole lot of worshipping of Dylan, as I've made obvious. Look, you think he's the greatest, I just don't care much about his music. We can let it go like that. I'm not changing my ideas and I'm sure you aren't either.
