Lyrics:
There must be some way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line
Know what any of it is worth
No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour is getting late
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too
Outside in the distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
The wind began to howl

“I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day. I liked Jimi Hendrix’s record of this and ever since he died I’ve been doing it that way. Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it’s a tribute to him in some kind of way.” - Bob Dylan

I think Dylan intensely disliked 'psychedelic' music from '67 onwards, and had little time for the Woodstock festival in '69 - including 'Sgt Pepper'. This sounds like a retrospective view to me.

@AshenSamarakoon actually, paul obviously writes better pop songs. And like you say, you and i dont really like his lyrics. Lyric-wise Bob is lightyears ahead. But in regards to the overall pop songs which is popularity, paul is that. But bob's music is genius and honest. Paul writes for other people. Bob writes for himself.

An incredible poem about the Battle of Armageddon. Unsurpassed genius in song writing. “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.” -Revelation 16:15

That song inspired us to write a raging song about the gun situation in America and the awful events in the university in 2018 (among all the other tragedies). Dylan and Hendrix kind of showed us the way with this great anthem. If you have 3 minutes to spare, I would love your opinion on our song, comments from people with the same taste in music are always best, and stay safe in these crazy times we are in : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kFxeV8oom3U.html

Bob Dylan musician extraordinaire of the iconic realm. I was around during the Dillon era and the Hendricks era. Along the watchtower is lyrically probably won the most prolific in abstract songs ever written. I'm still after all these decades trying to put together the last three stanzas. Outside in the cold distance A wildcat didn't growl Two riders were approaching In the wind began to howl Awesome!

Until today I had never heard the Dylan version. I play a weekly solo gig these days and will add this song. I have been singing many Dylan songs since the 60's. I also missed out on "Make you feel my love" and added it to my rep after I heard the Adele version. Only later did I find out that Dylan wrote it, ha ha. Lucky me, I attended his live show in UK which was the last one with just him and his guitar.
