Sad he died at such a young age. Agree wholeheartedly, he was tremendous. Sadly journalists of this quality are either no longer given a platform or are drown out by so many voices brought on by the internet. The internet gives a voice to people that do not religiously follow journalist ethics like Ed Bradley and most of the great ones. As a result the truth is more difficult to ascertain.

Yeah. Thank God for the Internet, otherwise, I wouldn’t have seen much of him here in the UK. One channel did actually used to show the American 60 minutes (months later than originally broadcast in the US) in the late 80s and early 90s, but it was always on at an ungodly hour, like two or three in the morning. He lets the interviewee finish, and he asks relevant questions, not the ‘who shagged who?’ type of frivolous nonsense. You can see that Dylan is showing him respect. He’s giving proper answers; if Dylan doesn’t like the broadcaster, he doesn’t hold back, he lets them have it, so this speaks volumes for Ed Bradley.

Ed was cool. He always seemed comfortable with creative types.

He told me I wanted to see Mr. Dylan before I die. Thank God they're still both Alive. Yes! Because he actually read the book and understood it! Having just read it myself (listened via Audible) I can affirm that he read it because the whole way through Dylan maintains that he was not who people thought he was, who they intended him to be or said he was publicly and for decades. Amazing!

Yes. You are right. The most straight forward I've ever heard him. He took the interview seriously. He wasn't running his eyes or dodging or giving smart ass comments. I saw this the first time it broadcast. I even got off work early to watch it. Now, I wouldn't do any of that for anyone but that was then and this is now. He is a force to be reckoned with and people still are.

Funny how respect can do that. Ed was my favourite on 60 minutes.

Easily the most poignant and pinpoint comment added here... I stumbled upon some interesting information about him recently, it’s hard to stomach once learning of it because it’s ... blood on the tracks... no puns, only a clue of what he would find in his own life after that masterpiece album. oddly that the albums title never did spill the beans within the text of the music inside. I always felt it was regressing something so vivid within his life that it had yet to be as history for him. A feeling you find about yourself and the present future that you can’t conclude it to be anything other than coming your way. He would though, like the title hexes find that the tracks Dylan was on would in fact turn bloody. Being a Dylan fan myself i was stunted and down for some time, heavily enveloped in the BIG WHY connected to it. Is the information i found true, well by my research and careful combing of his life in light of the subject matter, i would sadly say yes it is. i would rather be wrong. Yes he is a Jew-christian and to add to the humility that endows this spirit, he isn’t an evil man, this must be stated. However he did by my findings, and I will interject here that YES GOD did enlighten me to this info, taking me into the codes of things that GOD for some reason wanted me to have known. I am a sound mind for those whom are steadfast to discredit. Revelations as such do at times happen just like so. Again, Dylan IS a beautiful soul, Only at a hiccup he did do an Evil thing. It coincides with his deal he speaks of here, though he cleverly distorts the timeline so people could never figure out his ... Error. An error that GOD will judge him for. I sit back and say after heavy thoughts that he has more than inspired people even to the word of GOD, and i’m sure that Angels will bring cause for his place in the paradise heaven. Clearly his music released that follows this horrid incident secures OUR understanding for HIM, that he deeply regrets what he has done. I’d add that he respectfully manages to slice his music’s breath of natural and regal lure for vain-less relativity - apart from his this monstrosity and it’s anguish of him being overcome by it to see the deed through... However secret it is, considering that they are both one made into marriage... once understanding the revelation of his tenacity to be BOB DYLAN. Funny that with all the depth this soul has within, so much so that his inspired writings and proses, rich with the beautiful views of the passionate discords we people endure, profound that they feel as if BOB DYLAN knows what we are to learn through him, in that we are finding a dim light made to illuminate our paths brightly, would find such a FOUL within him. That a fool of him had shortened what was the supreme of him. .... This light made bright because of him, though always there within us... From what a fool would torch, we uncomfortably have to re-examine if we had known this would we want only this sleepy beauty of enlightenment made so enriched for us be so... well yes i digress but maybe no... What’s more, it’s Robert Zimmerman, the man mom and dad named him as that ultimately has to face his demon that he gave life to that dark hour. His ego coming to life. Not the typical understanding of egos we come to learn in that it’s the other way around. Fame or Power or Money overruling in zeal over the humble ones once known to be them. Here it’s that Rob that was the Giant of no gentle tenor. I’m certain GOD will remove all his intricate layers he wisely fished and fed into, all the Dylan that made him to be BEST for himself and everyone, until the naked man that he kept mute and unknown all his life is left before GOD. It’s Robert whom will have to be the soul that finds the scales of justice upon him. Do you realize he is over 80 years old now. This interview was taken about 20 years ago when he was 63. I'm so glad he is still living and hopefully doing well. Dylan mentions Buddy in his amazing Nobel Prize lecture. He said that he had to travel over a hundred miles to see Buddy Holly perform. He also noted that Buddy’s commitment to writing original songs and just going out there and playing them motivated Bob to do the same. It was pretty much the same with The Beatles. They saw Buddy tour Britannia and were blown away by pretty much the same things as Bobby Dylan was.

I am sorry they don't resonate with you. So many unbelievable insights. It can be as simple as a song that so many underestimate: Mr. Tambourine Man. (Not the Byrds version of course...that is sheer bubblegum.) Go camping in the desert by yourself. Look up at the diamond sky...and listen to it. It's so simple yet so transformational. Our culture constantly bombards us with meaningless distractions that try to convince us that we need to act a certain way. Look a certain way. Buy certain things that are supposed to make us happy. It's about eliminating all those meaningless distractions and just being present. Then you realize that it is true: "But for the sky, there are no fences facing".

Years ago, while delivering to 60 Minutes, I caught an elevator ride down to the lobby with Mr. Bradley. Alas, no words were exchanged.

I loved all the periods of his life. I also saw him in Denver , he sang and even preached on stage. Tom and the group were not pleased, but hey that's Bobby!! I saw him in Philly Spectrum 70's. I was in the middle of the field in Ft Collins my last concert. I was heckling and laughing having a great time. Joan was not pleased, LOL! Joan sings like my mother Dec -Jan people! Bobby is family a long lost brother a cousin many times removed! He has been allowed a long life with wives children homes and all with tribulation. We all have destiny and it is bringing us to this moment in time all for a purpose! buckle up your seat belts, here we go.........

I didn't take that, too, literally; I think he meant it more metaphorically, as in trying to describe the nonsensical nature of people showing up at his doorstep to just get-in a couple of words with someone of relevance. 🤔

I agree. Harry Reasoner's Miles Davis interview was embarrassing insofar as Reasoner was not knowledgeable about Davis' music and couldn't wait to ask him about racial issues, as if Davis' racial friction was somehow in a vacuum. Bradley would have been a better choice.

No matter how much I try to like his music I don’t enjoy it a bit! As for the claim the guy is sort of a poet frankly I don’t get it! The interviews I have seen of him I feel as if he comes as dull, inarticulate and cranky! Maybe I need to spend more time listening to his music to discover the “genius” in his music!
