Carol asks the audience for questions....she invites someone to the stage who offers compliments, gifts, etc. There is no hesitation for a handshake, kiss on the cheek, a huge smile....so beautiful. Today we do not touch one another. I so miss those days....

Today's so called stars have so many bodyguards that you never touch them. They even hired their own publicists who constantly publicise every every movements. They sell their marriage or pregnancy photos taking huge amount of money. They are not real any more like the yesteryear's stars.

This show continues to amaze me. You expect professionals to sing or dance beautifully when they're performing their favorite routines or well known favorites, but I am astounded at how perfectly they also pull of completely new, original material, like this show's Three Little Pigs send-up. I don't know how much time they have to rehearse, but it can't be easy to sing never before heard songs with such accuracy & confidence, as the ladies do here (& Harvey, of course). That whole scene was hilarious, especially when they sometimes drop the classy trappings & deadpan a punchline with a more common delivery. What a great episode!

i believe that was Isabell Sanford playing the Maid in one sketch, and sitting with the others at the end to song Christmas Carols. she went on to play Louise Jefferson in the TV series The Jeffersons in the 1970's. The Three Pigs opera had me on the floor laughing.

It was Marilyn Horne and Eileen Farrell again. Beverly Sills was not on The Carol Burnett Show except she was introduced by Carol when she was in the audience along with her husband. Carol tells the audience with great excitement that she and Beverly Sills were going to film a special called Sills And Burnett At The Met which was broadcast in 1976 or 1977. By the way, it is available on RU-vid in a very poor copy...

@@AmyLSacks: Why the crack about Oprah liking opera? What prompted that intended slight against her?
@johnpickford4222
@johnpickford4222 2 года назад
cricket123: That’s a friggin’ rude comment to make. Both Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne were never stick figures but the classical musical field, at that time emphasized voices over ‘phisque du role’ and I don’t think it has helped. Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne had FABULOUS voices beautiful voices. At the time of her MET Opera debut in 1960 she was the most prominent dramatic soprano in the US. She had a voice that encompassed not only the major class composers but lighter music. She was easily compared to Kirsten Flagstad and Ella Fitzgerald in her range; no mean treat. Marilyn Horne would be a contributing and active member of the MET Opera for over 25 years after making her debut in a new production of NORMA and to the reintroduction of neglected works, especially Rossini and Meyerbeer. She is still active running the Vocal Academy of California at Santa Barbara and with her personal income founded a foundation to advance song recitals. It was enjoyable to watch this program and sad to see/hear the musical decline of music in elementary schools and in homes today. We are much less for the loss. PS: Horne debuted at the MET with another great lady who had a phenomenal voice and good sense of humor, John Sutherland. PPS: The reference that Lyle Wagner made at the beginning of the skit was in reference to Milton Cross, longtime radio commentator of the Saturday MET Opera broadcasts. The reference to the young conductor included the name “Bernstein”. There should be no need to explain that name in America!
