Bob Monkhouse OBE (1928-2003) entertainer/comedian 

What an inspirational man. Best comic ever from this country. So brave too.

This so interesting - thanks for posting. I'm afraid that I'm one of those people who ( till now ) were unaware that Bob Monkhouse was a consummate comedian also or primarily ( in his own mind ). I remember watching him as a game show host and the like, and never associated other activities with his name. But he was obviously a quite brilliant stand-up performer.

He was a brilliant performer and a very talented artist.

He wasn't a natural comedian as such but he worked really hard at his craft and it paid off for him. He was highly intelligent with brilliant gags and sharp as a tack. ☺

Great Bob was great host and top man sadly missed by many

the reason why is some much of Bob's TV work around as he had a huge number of VHS machines and he recorded everything he could plus recorded radio too

If only Denis Goodwin had had more confidence, he could have had great success. His delivery was excellent. Bob was superb of course, but Denis was not as inferior as people often make out. He was likeable and funny in his own right.

As a comedian you have to sell the joke, if you hold back on a risky joke you are not going to sell it, you have to go beyond your own limitations to sell a joke, once you get one laugh, you get a tumble and you carry on from there.
