The Beer League Yeah, I really like how relaxed and calm he is with these big time celebrities. I think they pick up on that too and it just feels like a normal conversation about their lives.
I feel like ALL interviews should be like this. The British actor Richard Ayoade abhors interviews because they are a one-sided conversation, basically! Off Camera Show is great, because the interviewer converses with the interviewed.
This interviewer is incredible. A lot of interviews have a very stiff atmosphere to them where the interviewer can't overcome the idea that the guest is a celebrity, but this guy does this thing where he kinda puts both him and the guest on the same level and gets involved in the interview, stimulating conversation with the guest instead of asking them a few questions, getting a promotional bit from them collecting his pay, its impressive to watch
My dad is a great person, and he's still alive, and we love each other, but we don't connect. I feel like the only way we would connect is if we were in a situation were it was only us for an imperceivable amount of time. Like a zombie apocalypse... the kid in me thinks that's worth it.
Please, please, please stop the music fade-in so early in the final stage of the interview clip... it is deeply annoying. Otherwise, thanks for such a great series of interviews .
I'd almost say marc maron is the opposite. He gets people to be comfortable but then a lot of times he makes it more about him than the guest. He constantly interrupts to tell his own stories and stuff. I still like listening to his interviews though they're casual and he gets cool guests.
Yes! I felt like the interviewer was saying "I wonder if you try to be funny for you, or for approval from your dad." Bob didn't get that, but once he started talking, the interviewer didn't interrupt him to re-frame the question. He just listened. And went with it. Other interviewers would have interrupted 10 times to get their own point across.
Absolutely. As pervasive as podcasts are and long form interview type shows, I would be much more willing to give them a listen if the discourse was like this. Sam is amazing and I wish I had a friend like him.
2:34 Interesting question when you take into account the role he plays in Better Call Saul. Jimmy himself is guilty of simply just doing stuff just to make his brother proud, but he never does, cause Chuck never really liked or cared for him. And it's just fucking sad.
The thing about him wondering if he didnt connect with his dad cuz he was a kid or because it wasnt ever gonna happen hit home with me. Isnt it weird how true artists like Bob can say something simple that really resonates with you? Guess that's what makes them true INDIVIDUALS. And the guy doing these interviews is amazing.
Theoffcamerashow, much respect for the calm, insightful interviewing. What a breath of fresh air, in an age where anyone with a mic is a "journalist". Classic Odenkirk here. The man is a true genius. Props.
I didn't know David Cross wrote T.J. O'Pootertoots. That's my favorite Ben Stiller sketch. It's about a family chain restaurant run by the devil and all of the food is made out of human flesh, and the manager has the power to throw people against the wall just by twisting his fake mustache.
I agree, it is the same way with writing for me. What it comes down to, is it's better to just write what's natural. Don't force something, because then it just comes across as contrived and 9/10 times will flop. If you have a spontaneous idea of course, great! But it isn't something you can try to control.
