I think he's wrong about the laugh. The laugh is that Chris was THAT GOOD to make it to the final audition. He was so good that he was on the same level as swayze and had the moves to back it up. Yes the audience thinks that Chris didn't get the role because of his size, but it's more than that.

The entire interview with Bob Odenkirk was excellent. However, this segment about Chris Farley was poignant and brought me to tears. People can be so damn cruel if one doesn't fall within the narrow parameters of desirable physical characteristics.

Lack of self worth, lack of self control, lack of effort. People see those things and they reject them because their scared of how easily they can become that person. Don't think it's as cruel as what chris did to himself.

The problem with the Chippendales sketch was Farley shouldve won the audition. By him losing and then having to hear from the judges why he lost, sort of derailed the joy of the whole thing.

This breaks my heart, and you can hear it in MR. Odenkirk’s voice that it didn’t sit well with him with how uneasy Chris probably was about how/why people laughed at/with him. Rest easy, Chris. 🙏🏾

This is one of the most clearly stated examples of basic human empathy that I think I've heard in a long time. You can see in his face and hear in his voice how much what Chris thought of *himself* and how that sketch reinforced those feelings really tore Bob up inside.

Makes you wonder, In the Better Call Saul episode“ Marco”, if Bob had Chris in his memories or emotions when doing the scene when Marco died. His performance in that scene was exceptional so it wouldn’t surprise me at all that it may have hit real close to home yo.

That is such a great but sad insight. I always had a hard time watching Farley because he seemed so sad, that emotion came through more to me than anything else when I saw him on SNL or elsewhere.

Damn, the humility odenkirk is showing here is hardly visible in his field. I’m happy him and Chris rock are vocal about this. Comedy shouldn’t be censored, that’s for sure, but you can’t forget that people have feelings and emotions and some of them don’t know how to handle them.

Whenever I hear Bob talk about Chris you can hear how much he loved and still loves Chris. At the same you can feel the sadness and anger, that what made him funny was also what made him miserable. Ultimately that's what killed Chris.

We all love Farley stories. I've read the book put together by his brother Tom, SNL docs, there's a Farley doc "I am Chris Farley" and maybe another one. Bob always stands out when talking about Chris. He's more honest.

I don't disagree with Bob's take on the Chippendales sketch, but I have always personally loved watching that because Chris' performance and dancing was legit awesome and hilarious despite his size. His personality is king and it comes through in spades.
