You'll find that what separates good cartoons from bad ones, Family Guy clearly has a much larger animation budget for instance, but its animation is cookie cutter BS, it's so clean and characterless that it looks like it was made by a computer. (and no, I don't mean USING computer software to make it, I mean it looks like it was literally planned, keyframed and drawn BY an AI) Bob's Burgers by comparison is brilliantly animated, motion is fluid and expressive, with each character moving in their own unique ways, no two expressions are the same, and there's a lot of attention paid to background detail.
+Ciaran Smith not only that but when Bob's makes a reference it actually fits into the logic of the story being told and they actually make a joke out of it, whereas family guy typically just makes a reference to something but does nothing comedic with it.
lol RIGHT!??!?? i keep telling my roommate and my little sister that only anime nerds will get that scene hahaha im so happy there are some in the BB crew.
I just watched My Neighbor Totoro last night and when I saw that scene I started freaking out because Bob’s Burgers perfectly copied this scene and it made me happy. Not many shows can do parodies so flawlessly and still make it their own, especially adult cartoons but Bob’s Burgers is definitely a master and I applaud the whole team for their time and effort that they put in each parody scene and episode that they did. Keep up the good work
Omg that is such a cute image. I can imagine Bob being more or less uninvested but just like "yeah sure why not", and expecting to fall asleep and instead Louise does and he is all up in front of the tv hugging his pillow during the climax scenes and all like "OH NO! THE MOM IS SICK?? BUT WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN TO HER FAMILY 😳" And the next day Loiuse is like yeah that movie was pretty boring and Bob is like THAT WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER CAN WE SEE IT AGAIN
As far as i remember isn't bob a movie guy? He watched a lot of spaghettiwestern whit gene, some japanese movies whit louise, and showed tina this vampiredancemovie in the cinema. I woud say that she got into movies in general over bob and that he deffinetly knows the classics like this one. Lots of casual anime viewers don't know about this movie btw
@@evlish8771 It’s just a cultural difference, it has no creepy undertones or something like that. A lot of things that are normal in Japan seems weird to us and vice versa
I love this reference not only because it is almost a shot for shot remake of the movie, but also because it ties into the the movies theme of the innocence of childhood with Bob's childlike love for Thanksgiving, cooking, and his family
it's because through 8 (plus) seasons of this show, Bob just wants his damn restaurant to do well for the sake of his family. His dream (formed through the friction between him and his dad) has become his dream FOR his family
Watched my neighbor totoro for the first time the other night with my wife (who's a huge fan of this show) and was trying to put my finger on what was so familiar about that scene when it struck me bob's burgers made a reference to it. I paused right then in the movie and pulled up this video and the look on her face was priceless. I always thought this was a strangely specific scene before but this just made me love the show that much more myself.
I have been watching bob's burgers for so long & but have never seen totoro ever! so when i did for the first time i could sit still trynna figure out why this particular scene in totoro was so familiar. TWO HOURS LATER i was in the shower BAM. moment of realisation. immediately searched this on youtube for proof. i am so happy rn
I just watched this movie for the first time after my wife bought some Totoro rings at hot topic. Funny to rewatch this reference now 😂 spot on. This is such an amazing show.
so it's a year later... do you still genuinely believe that the most hardcore anime fans don't know about _My Neighbor Totoro,_ a movie made by one of the most renowned anime movie studios of all time? A movie studio that literally uses Totoro on their logo..? (or were you kidding? Being ironic?)
Only true fan of probably the tenth most popular animated movie of all time, that must be so rare ! You are truely unique, along with tens, maybe hundreds of millions of other kids ! Great !
Jillian Barker I saw this episode when I was 11 I didn't see totoro till I was 14 but I still knew the reference. My regret is not seeing the movie totoro sooner but my parents apparently despise anime referring to Ponyo as the worst movie they've ever seen
I am shocked at how many people - supposed anime fans, at that - have never heard of, let alone seen My Neighbor Totoro. This is a travesty. Everything by Miyazaki is a work of art. Some are more of a masterpiece than others, but it’s no less pitiable, regardless. We must spread the joy of Miyazaki far and wide to all peoples!
I've seen this episode many times but I never knew this was a reference to Totoro lol I finally watched the movie while waiting for Harvey to pass and when the scene in the movie came up I just had a smh/ah-ha moment 😆
I saw this episode before I ever saw the movie, when I saw the movie I was like “this part seems familiar, seems like these kids are hallucinating or something ” fast forward a few months to when I watched this episode again…needless to say I was overly excited when I figured out the reference 😂
