I remember watching this live; I was a huge Bob Vila fan! He started it all with « This Old House »!! Such a great program; did everything from A to Z!!! It was a Saturday morning kind of show (on PBS I believe)-that I as a young woman loved to watch and see the final results as he finished a house-and dream!! There was no interior decorating, but it didn’t matter! And then he would take you on tours of beautiful places such as the Trump tower!!! Just an excellent host and he knew so much on everything having to do with home!!❤️❤️❤️I remember Ivana here; I thought she was such a gracious hostess!!!xxxxxxx
IVANA was the true success in Trumps organization. It was all IVANA'S ideas and her hands on development that made the Trump hotels plus The Plaza ! RIP IVANA
I KNOW SAD MY UNCLE HAD SPIRAL STAIRS AT HIS WATCH HILL, WESTERLY,RI YRHOME HE FELL AND HURT HIS LEG MANY TIMES BUILD 1985 I TRIPPED A FEW TIMES TOO SO GLAD IT WAS TORN DOWN . IT WAS A DEATHTRAP REST WITH JESUS - ED IN CT A LOVELY TALKER
I remember watching this originally! This was the start of the "yuppie" era and Manhattan had such a glamour and mystique about it. You dreamt of hitting it big and living there. Going into the city was magical to me. I recall walking into the main floor and being bowled over. In the '80's you just walked into any building and took a look. It was when we were still a decent society. I live a short trip outside NYC and have no desire to go in now. The glamour tarnished long ago.
Under a golf course in New Jersey. Ivana Trump was a Soviet spy who helped The Donald become a Russian asset years later. Drink to that a glass of Trump whine.
Ivana reminds me of the prince's Diana! The same intelligence, brilliant brain, kindness, beauty, and charm! Like she was born into a royal family! Ivana used to run all that Donald's business! Talking to many people, meeting new ones every day! Being everything for Trump's family! I don't know how she could handle all of that!
@@helenakurcewiczowna6695🤣🤣🤣 Did you meet Diana in person & know all her biography? She was precious, intelligent, and did uncountable charities all over the world! Did you see all the world cried when she died? You just popped up, and have no idea what is going around you! Maybe you mixed Diana with Melania?!!! 😂😂😂😂Melania is nothing, she just does what Donald says to do!!
@@true_world_inc6248 you know its very easy to do charity in limelights. Besides that what did Diana actually achieve? Professionally for example? Because Ivana whatever put her hands on turn gold. Sport on olimpic level - no problem. Run huge enterprises being CEO and build them from scratch? - no problem gor Ivana. What actually Diana achieve besides smiling to limelights and besides being miserable vomplaining that Charles doesnt love her and how unhappy that luxiurious life spondored by British taxpayers is? Do call that an achievement? I pity you then, too.
@@helenakurcewiczowna6695 all your words are bla bla and prove that you don't know about Diana anything at all! Even though she quit living in the Royal Palace, she kept doing what she loved to do in her entire live -- love and serve people! She went to many poor countries and did many nice programs , fighting with the global system ! She kept doing a lot till she died ! Leave her alone pls! You have no idea what you are talking about!
I lived in New York in 1987. My friend had an apartment on the 32nd floor here. It was sooooo tacky to even me back then. Peach leather couch, c-shaped lacquered table...tacky fake flowers on pedestals...I remember it so well. And I thought it was dark and depressing in that lobby. This brings back so many memories. R.I.P. Ivana.
I WAS HERE IN 1985 FOR FIELD TRIP HERE FROM CONNECTICUT REMEMBER GOING TO MAMA LEOONNES REST YEP THE TACKY RED WALLS AND FLOWERS TOO GOOD TIMES IN NY RUP IVANA I HAD A CLASMATE HERE IN CT NAME WAS IVANA SKORAK SND SHE WAS BLONDE TOO WE FLURTED A LOT IN SCIENCE CLASS IN 1983 MIDDLE SCHOOL
Trump Tower has always felt like a dated shopping mall to me. It launched in the 80s with a 70s aesthetic. The rooms themselves (including Trump’s penthouse) have standard 8ft ceilings…it’s like the whole thing is a standard apartment that’s trying very hard to be opulent. Doesnt matter how many mirrors, gold windows, or faux columns are added to the rooms.
You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. For 1983 that place was cosmic future looking. The ceilings are very high in that building and apartments.
@@patricktomaszewski2063 I’m not talking about the lobby (which is very grand and decadent), I’m talking about the apartments themselves. If you watch the video, you can see for yourself at 03:15. Those are standard 8ft ceilings. Trump’s penthouse is the same thing except it’s the whole top floor and covered in gold mirrors.
They had a height limit on the tower so had to sacrifice ceiling heights for more floors, meaning revenue. The 12'+ ceilings of today weren't yet en vogue
I kept waiting for Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen from "Wall Street" to walk in at any minute! I remember when that style of interior was the "big thing". It looks sooooo dated now! haha
Of course it looks dated. It’s of its time. So should we just gut the place and repaint everything stark white with glass and black barnhouse features like all interior designers do now? That will turn dated in 20 years. I love New York, I grew up here, and the amazing thing is that so many buildings are time capsules of the different decades of the modern urban age. You can walk into the Art Deco 20s, the mod 60’s, the gaudy 80’s, etc, all in one day. The decor of Trump Tower reminds me of my grandma’s tiny little house on Long Island that I have so many memories in. It gives me a warm and nostalgic feeling.
@@TomSmith-gw6fn THIS WOULD OF BEEN RENOVATED THESE DAYS FOR SURE LOVE IT I WAS HERE IN 1985 REMEMBER SEEING THE TRUMP BUILDING ON A FIELD TRIP HERE FROM CT
I visited this building when I was 18 yrs old by myself . When I was in my 50s I bought 3 units on The TRUMP Towers in Las Vegas. The quality is just as beautiful. 😁😁😁😁
The reason this video was made in the first place was that the apartments were too expensive during the height of the brutal recession. The project started in the late 70s when the economy was growing at 4-5%. Compare that to the 1% rates of the last 20 years. Then the oil embargo and severe recession nearly bankrupted every major developer. Which is why Trump was pushing for Federal money towards the end of the video. Villa is shown an unfinished apartment in this visit and when he's told the asking price is one million he can't believe it doesn't come with a finished kitchen. Inflation was rampant in these days so Paul Volcker Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank raised interest rates drastically which broke inflation but was a disaster for builders like Trump. He would later file 6 bankruptcies 9 years after this and yet another in 2009. He's currently behind in his loans with the German bank who is the only one who will provide him with major credit facilities.
@@mommadpoppad9455 gas was cheap all over the world during the world wide covid shutdown. Brent Crude and West Texas Intermediate were at $1 per barrel. Of course refined gasoline is going to be under $2 per gallon. Once everyone got back to work around the world at literally the same time crude oil shot up to $120 per barrel which in theory should have resulted in $7 gasoline at a minimum. But we're still in the $4-5 range. Also when Trunp was in office we were barely adding 80k to 100k jobs to the economy per month which is horrible. In the 13 months that oil and gasoline prices have nearly tripled guess how many more jobs we're creating per month now? Between 400k and 600k every month. That hasn't happened for an entire year since 1996. The dollar is now stronger than all currencies. Home owners have seen the highest net worth of their lifetime. Unemployment claims and unemployment are at 40 year low. Nobody is buying gold. Prices are up because the economy is on overdrive.
@@porscheoscar think back….gas was cheap Before the Plandemic. You’ve swallowed the treasonous medias/politicians lies and propaganda hook, line and stinker. Find real factual news sources.
All planned on purpose by the Fed to steal everybody's hard work, property and careers. It started out with cutting off oil supply then the stock market crash and eventually the real estate market in the 80's. It caused many real estate investors brokers and builders to go down. The polititians pushed for tax changes in commercial property which resulted in many bankruptcies They are doing it now again on purpose. Donald knows and older people remember the propaganda that went with the BS. We have our own energy then and could of used it then and now!
Men think with that little head sometimes . He made a huge mistake , but they both had romances and new lives . She lead a fabulous life , and still managed to keep her kids in line and they turned out amazing . They are the American dream , and I wish this was highlighted more so that what can be accomplished here can be celebrated . We need those days back . I love how he turned to her for advice during what must have been one of the toughest times of his life . She believed in him and what he was doing for our country. I do love Melania also , I think she’s amazing. What a travesty not to put that goddess on the cover of Vogue . To her credit Vogue isn’t what it used to be anyway, and we all know why she was snubbed . End of rant 😂
Considering that times have changed, we understand that the 1983 "model apartment" looks dated today. Ivana did an excellent job then. Of course all owners must have decorated their apartments to their own taste.
@Jacko Sargs I just like history and real estate. If you really like this type of interior, let me know, I can get you a deal. Fabric covered walls, pink marble, and dated kitchens all included. Like I said, homes like this goes for a deep discount, and they are out there.
@@fra813 IT TRUE I WENT BY THERE IN 1985 IN A FIELD TRIP TO MAMA LEONNES REST GOOD TIMES . BUT ITS TRUE ,EVEN TODAY HE STILLLOVES TO TOUCH AND FEEL IT ALL
It was very impressive at the time but it now looks so sad and dated. I don’t know how it could even be seen as a timeless design in the future. It all feels like surface decoration to create the feel of expensive luxury versus great design.
What a flashback. I lived & worked near Bayonne & the surrounding area in the 80's & design was all about smooth glossy modern lacquered furniture. It was everywhere & I wasn't a fan. But will say that the warmth & glow of Trump Towers atrium lobby is very beautiful. (Also worked for Bonwit Teller - where $7.99-$11.99 imported clothing items sold for $59-$120, or more, at their retail stores. Bonwit's outrageous mark-ups were a life-lesson in the wisdom of thrift.)
@@unknownunknowns it depends on the environment and the zeitgeist, in the past when you reached a certain age, you were expected to dress and behave in a certain way, also with the fashions from modern perceptions, they appear more mature. For instance, look at Blanche on the Golden Girls, she was 50 but she appeared older from a modern perspective because today a 50 year old in the public eye is someone like Jennifer Lopez, modern hairstyles and more youthful trends contribute to someone looking younger.
@Bravo Luca In the past maybe, but now have you seen that stupid slim tower that bulges all over the place and looks like it might go over in a stiff breeze?
