The missile knows where it is because it knows where it isn't and by extrapolating where it isn't from where it is, it can find out where it is.

@@TheEmperr It's how missiles know where they are. By sensing their surroundings they can basically be like "Well if that rock is over there than obviously I can't be where the rock is, and since that tree is over there I obviously can't be where the tree is, so I guess if I am this far from each of them I have to be *here*". It's actually a really cool system to learn about.
