The Book of Boba Fett was told chronologically out of order with some episodes taking place completely set apart from the main character. I really enjoyed Boba Fett's character arc and his journey from cold blooded killer to the leader of Mos Espa and Tatooine, so today I am going through his story again in order, not just to summarize it, but help explain the themes and the symbolism behind some of the story beats and surprise character appearances.

There's still so much to explore with Boba's story, especially since his story was diverted for so long in Season One. I could easily see a Season Two. Hope we get one!

Same here. Execution is critical, and can be the difference between having to explain / clarify / justify what we saw versus being able to say, “That was kriffing amazing!!!” I really really hope they have a season two and elaborate on Boba’s new role on Tattooine and potentially how this plays into galactic events, Din and other Mandalorians’ stories, other bounty hunters shifting roles / positions given this super famous comrade’s reinvention of himself, etc.

I love the way they portrayed Boba fett, and his growth as a character. Literally my only criticism of the show is the fact that they wasted two episodes on the mandalorian that could have easily been spent developing boba's character more. I think Tamera Morrison is absolutely amazing, and the lack of his acting on two episodes his characters the namesake of bothered me a lot.

A good fair treatment of BoBF. I agree, they should have given the show 2 or 3 more episodes, and played the story out linearly, That would have given all the story beats the time to breathe. I personally like it. They used that Star Wars Rebels approach too, The Father Figure (Cannan/Boba), The Mother Figure, (Hera/Shand), The Cranky Uncle, (Zeb/Krissantin) and the Kids (Ezra Sabine / The Mods Gang) They each had that role arc type. Family was a strong point in the show. Father and Son, Din an Grogo, and Asoka almost felt like an Aunt in some ways. The Family was Strong with this one.

As much as I loved the Mando/Luke/Grogu episodes, I think it was a mistake to have them in this show. They should've kept that stuff for Mando S3, and written at LEAST two more episodes for the title character of this show, Boba freaking Fett.

I agree that they could've given us more, but I'm happy with what we got... very Star Wars. We're not going to get the full story from start to finish in one go, and that's what keeps us coming back. And yes, this story was clearly about family... which is why I feel it was absolutely right to include Din and Grogu. They're part of Boba's new community, his tribe, and that goes both ways. Din went back to bounty hunting so he could find who he thought his family was, only to lose them. They chose to ostracize him right after it felt like Grogu chose the Jedi way over him. But Grogu eventually chose his buir, Din chose his vod, and Boba got everything he needed... taking rancor-sized strides towards healing all those scars on the inside.

Honestly, I don’t think Boba’s training with the Rancor is over. He was clearly struggling to ride it in the finale, and even lost control of it. I personally see his riding of the rancor as him doing it despite not being 100% ready yet. He however did it because he knew it would be the best way to stop the droids and rescue his community.

I think this story of redemption would’ve flowed better for me if we got to see more of Boba’s more righteous and honorable side in other media. Hints and pieces of righteousness behind the visor of a bounty Hunter. We got to see some of that in the Clone wars with some of the Boba Centric stories. But From what I’ve read in the comics, he still feels like the badass faceless bounty Hunter with very little personality. I think we need to see either his time during the Empire and showing that righteous indignation towards immoral bounties or actions in his wake. To see him actually kinda struggle while living fully in the life of a bounty Hunter and see that familial doubt of himself in his prime. That type of struggle would make his entire story flow better into his arc in the show.

I just wanted to thank you. Years ago I stepped away from the fandom because of its toxicity, it was hindering my enjoyment of Star Wars. Your channel is the only thing Star Wars related I kept following because you are always respectful even when you don’t like certain stories, and you don’t resort to petty nitpicks and arguments. Because of this, I’ve started to like Star Wars way more than ever. I stumbled upon another BoBF video (a meme video) on my homepage, and I decided to watch it. I looked at the comments and it’s sad to see the people who loved their “saviors” Dave Filoni and Joni Favreau are now hating on their work in a toxic way (criticism is fine but you don’t have to be a d*ck about it). And this reminded me of why I left the online community, but it also reminded of how great your content is. So thank you for always trying to look on the bright side and for always been respectful

Excellent analysis - I was tuned into these themes all while watching the series as it came out, and being a die-hard 40+ OT fan, critic of the PT (but appreciate the story), lover of Clone Wars/ Bad Batch, hater of ST…. I loved this series and Boba’s arc. I’ve been saddened this whole time that many in my “tier” don’t see it that way… I wonder how much is expanded universe lore attachment vs Filoni-verse attachment - I was a purist even in the 90’s and though I acknowledge the EU stories as being great stories, I never latched onto them as canon. Here’s my pitch for a Boba movie trilogy to appease the other fans: do a serious homage to the man with no name trilogy set it in the years between Star Wars (what I call it) and Empire. That way Boba can be the Eastwood we all saw him as in the 80’s and it will still fit in continuity. I would love it too!

Skipped over, was the description of Boba's crazy effort to break into the palace (the first time) to steal back his ship. "I'll succeed or die trying". And he immediately goes on a revenge spree and then desperately tries to reclaim his armor. Both show him feeling powerless/dependent without these tools and his cultivated image. Additionally, his initial revenge on the bikers was totally subverted - it was the Pikes. Wish we saw more there. There is definitely room for a season 2.

I disagree why does every character need a redemption arc, why can't disney just have a villainous character, you csn make him more complex and give him a code and not have him be weirdly altruistic kind hearted personality. The whole tusken raider softened him argument doesn't work since that happens before the events of mando season 2 where he threatens to kill a child for his armour, brutally murders a bunch of stormtroopers, threatens to kill bo katan and casually murders bib fortuna in cold blood, but then he has a major personality shift

I know you want to be done with Tatooine but I’m hoping we continue to see more corners of Tatooine in Kenobi and a S2 of Boba if there is one. I think the planet hopping was done very well in Mando, but we do plenty of planet hopping in the entire skywalker series. I liked how Boba’s entire season was focused on the “community” and “diversity” of just the one planet. It felt like a western filmed entirely about one town and the surrounding hills.

As I said in a previous video’s comment the show does lean into that biblical imagery. Specifically in some ways from the book of Exodus. In it where Mosses receives a vision from Yahweh(God) to lead a group of people into a promised land. Sound familiar? In Exodus water plays a very key part. Like when Mosses used it to convince the Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave Egypt(you sorta can connect that with Boba talking with the Pykes). Much like how water is central in book of boba to represent serval things. Power(like the water monger), safety(Garsa’s not subtlety named sanctuary), healing(Boba’s Bacta), new beginnings(When the tusken chief gives Boba a black melon by the end of the first episode it was the start of his ascension into Tusken culture), and lastly the future(I have a whole analysis on Boba’s vision let me know if you to see that). Heck even the main villains towards the end are literally fish people! And Cad Bane is all dried up after decades of being a ruthless killer. Even getting redeemed by going into the waters of Mandalore sounds a lot like a baptism. Point is this isn’t much a crime drama as it is more of spiritual journey.

14:18 I love this point so much, and I hope that, at least over time, people might use that perspective for this series (or indeed, any part of Star Wars they find lacking). There can, and will, be flaws in these stories. We can't change them, but we can understand, and glean things from, them. In line with Qui-Gon's advice, we can choose what to focus on. Also, Star Wars tends to be iterative. There's a story, and then subsequently things that fill in, or enhance, parts of said story -- even strictly within the TV series, e.g. Caleb and Hera in The Bad Batch.

It would have really worked if pre Tuskan Boba behaved like OG Boba. Cold, selfish and ruthless. He's initially accepted into the tribe due to his strength and cunning but he then let's his guard down. He's start to see himself as part of the tribe. The time between Rotj and Mandalorian was 5 years. A quick montage that would have been awesome him integrating himself in their culture. Then we see the more noble and heroic Boba who still value strength but also Clan and community. All this is taken away from him, by the Criminal who just want to subjugate, oppress and makes money. It would add to his motivation in taking control and changing the game. He's want s to more benevolent Daimyo.

Boba may not be a Mandalorian in name, but now, after everything he’s done for Mos Espa, he has proven that he’s truly worthy of that name a thousand times over. Jaster Mereel, his adoptive grandfather, would be proud. Also, I’m beginning to think that Boba’s starting to warm up to the idea of the creed after fighting with Din. Maybe he might become a true Mandalorian in the future like in Legends. But, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Thank you so much. Your explanation is exactly why I was so pro-development of Boba Fett's character in the first place. After all, I was no fan of bounty hunters in the first place. Saw nothing interesting in them and I never liked Cad Bane for one bit. But already in The Mandalorian 2, I could see the change in Boba Fett and showing he had personality and humanity after all. The few only things, I didn't like at all in TBOBF was the unnecessary overdoing massacre of Tuskens and I happens to agree with the actor Temuera Morrisson's dislike over Boba Fett talking so much, which I can understand since Boba isn't exactly much of a talker. With that said, I think you made a excellent job of explaining why ppl shouldn't bash this show just because Boba Fett isn't the same person as before sarlacc pit.

I'm glad people enjoyed the show. I never found Boba interesting, original trilogy or prequels. Expanded lore included. He was okay when he showed up in the MANDALORIAN, yet it could have been a completely new original character other than Boba. Series was just a pit stop for the MANDALORIAN. All spectacle, no substance. The story was all over the place. I understand the "story arc" of Boba "breaking his bonds", yet we never get to see the ruthless side of Boba. We don't get to see what he's changing from. Nor do we understand why he wants to change. Idk about "saving Tattooine". He wants to be a crime lord, so...🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️. Sparing his enemies, I'm okay with that. The BK thing.. Disappointing. I hate when characters are just tossed around because of plot armor, yet a non important character will get their arms ripped off. He's supposed to be a bad ass that ran through everyone, yet a handful of street punks and two pigs can take him down🤔? The pay off in the end was lack luster. Why fight in town? Why put the people you are "protecting" in danger by fighting in the city and placing them in danger? The Pykes are coming to kill Boba, not kill everyone in the city, so how is Boba "protecting" Mos Espa when HE is the one the Pykes and to kill?

We loved the series!! I think Book of Boba Fett originally had just 5 chapters of content. In the edit, they used what they had and shuffled it then added similar characters that didn’t know their own roles in life and needed lessons learned. I tried to watch it all the way through instead and it was a little better. I think they added the stories of Mando and Luke to reflect on Mando’s and Luke’s roles in the galaxy and their acceptance in them. The beginnings of their own tribes… Jedi and Mandalorians. My question is.. even though using the Rancor was cool … why didn’t he use the Firespray to attack the Scorponek droids? I see Robo Cobb Vanth taking over the planet. Another question 🙋🏻‍♂️ why do you think they didnt show a younger Boba with Cad Bane? Thank you for all that you do for the Star Wars community!

If the guy placing a Stormtrooper helmet on a spike is any indication, the Tuskens seem to have been killed anywhere from a few weeks after Jabba died to a couple of months, or 1 year, depending on how long the news took to arrive at Tatooine. If that's true, 1.) Boba's a fast learner, & 2.) He was alone for at least 4 years. Also, considering Freetown was set upon by the Mining Guild as soon as they got the news, both their and Boba's lives changed on nearly the same day.

I really enjoyed BOBF. I did like the story arc and wasn’t particularly looking to see a story of a ruthless bounty hunting killer. What I DID want was a more fully developed story line. I agree with your breakdown, but the problem is that the story would even NEED a breakdown. So many times the writers almost got there, then just completely backed off. So many details left on the table along the way that even breakdowns or another season really can’t clean up. But like I said, I really truly enjoyed the series and hope for another season!

To me, the Boba that killed for money and fought for the Empire would have been more apathetic and dispassionate- it was all business for him. The barbarous up close and personal warrior spirit to me is more who he's become than who he was.

How many shows have had a rough start, only to have a subsequent rise in quality the next seasons? I mean look at Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. Both had odd starts and yet they became better over time. So I have hope that this shows quality can improve over time. They just need to work on their execution.

When Boba had fell down from the deal with Cad Bane it should had showed a flashback or Boba is remembering his father voice telling him get up Boba remember what I taught you my son. When Grogu chose Din Luke was probably pissed off slashing the trees in the forest with his lightsaber.

I like that you pointed out Cad Bane still being the same cold blooded killer as always. He made the mistake of closing the distance with Boba, not realising that his opponent became a skilled gaffi stick fighter from the Tuskens.

Thats exactly what happened to grogu/mando they are in the same place that they started, no character development like boba's, the 2nd season was pointless.

I also would've like seeinh him training to ride rhe rancor. Find it interesting that Danny Trejo didn't make an appearance in the final episode. Is Boba the ruler of the planet or just Moa Epsa?

In hindsight, I do think they wanted to tell this story very early while Temuera Morrison was still able to do the action and stuff. Boba Fett, Tusken Tribe Member and Daimyo of Mos Espa can be a character going forward. They can always do Boba Fett, bounty hunter later on voiced by Temuera but with the helmet on.

I really would've liked a little more time with the Tuskens. And also, I think Cad Bane should've been introduced earlier on in the show and should've been the one directly responsible for the Tusken slaughter. That would've provided a more clearly defined antagonist in the show. Pykes were weaksauce. Ask any "normy" who watched this show who the main antagonist was, and I guarantee you they wouldn't remember.

The story here is solid, the execution could use work, I hope Disney still feels like exploring his story after this even with some of the backlash.

Honestly, this is overall a nice catharsis story about a character. But at the end of the day we expected to see some more of his past, more Boba and less peaceful farmer wannabe.

wish season 1 was all building the story with the tuscans. introducing cad bane. showing both sides of this "war" building up their teams/resources. and the season ending just before the war starts. Then the second season takes over from there. The tuscan stuff was really cool and would have been fun to see it explored a little deeper.

Bane shot the sheriff, and he shot the deputy. I guess they don’t have Bob Marley on Tattooine.

I feel like Boba'a attachment to community and a tribe would mean a whole lot more if viewers were shown the job on Corellia that went wrong, and how he's been solo ever since.

Yeah I mean obviously the execution could have been better here and there and of course there's the whole din djarin episode but I loved bobas development and I honestly think he has the most reason at this point story wise to want to redeem himself and use his violence to protect the weak

I loved this show, and was sad to see so many other Star Wars channels give it bad reviews for not doing what they wanted. This show was enjoyable for anyone who wanted to enjoy some Star Wars.

I know. I freaking loved this show and seeing so many people bagging on it using arguments that I frankly saw as nonsensical (I came across a comment or two that described the huge battle that took up the majority of the final episode "slow" or "small scale" which is just stupid. What parallel universe did they fall into where it was any of those things?). I really wish the people who enjoyed it were more vocal online.
