There is an adjustment that you can make at the top, that will make the machine shut off automatically when the bobbin is full. Loosen those 2 little screws and adjust to the amount you want bobbin to be full. Works great :)

My bobbin comes up off the spindle during winding. The thread bulges in the middle on bobbin

Try adjusting the blue knob, which is the tension disc. This should help with the bulging and should wind more evenly from top to bottom.
