The tale of Bobby Bonilla is one of the most legendary stories in sports contract history. To some, such as everybody who wants to make $1.19 million every year for a job they finished decades ago, it's aspirational. To others, such as real estate developer and former New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon, it's cautionary.
I'm sure many of you have heard it before, but I wanted to explain why Bobby Bonilla is one of the only people to profit off of Bernie Madoff's crimes to those of you who might not know it because you don't follow baseball.
