Bobby Charlton scores for North End. Sounds good to me. Best wishes to Bobby. I remember our chat about Nobby when they named a street after him. Love BW X
I was in the Kop end the racecourse ground,Wrexham FC, Wrexham are playing Preston North end and I remember watching Bobby Charlton I could be wrong, but I think he was captain on the day and he still had a special aura about him.🏴🇬🇧🏴
What always stands out when watching matches from the 70s is how dreadful the pitches were, even in this small clip the ball keeps getting stuck in the mud. What were the groundsmen doing all decade?!
I love Bobby. A class act on and off the pitch. 20 cigarettes a day and pork pie lunches took its toll. Ronaldo and Charlton in their mid thirties is like chalk and cheese.
Bobby Charlton England's record goalscorer puffed away on a cigarette at half-time in the World Cup final. His brother Jack and striker Jimmy Greaves were also smokers while 1966 captain Bobby Moore fronted an ad campaign to drop in at your local pub. And England still wonder why they haven't won the tournament since I had to Google this!!
@@tarakb7606 He was hit and miss for the Clarets. Brilliant one game, anonymous for three. Villa made him, then he was more consistent. At his best, one of the best wingers in Europe.
@@tarakb7606 TONY TONY MORLEY !!!! As Burnley's Longside used to sing. In late '89, as a 35-year-old, he came back to 4th division Burnley on loan. He was sensational.
When didn't they lose in that period, they were on their 3 year journey from Division 1 to Division 4 at the time. Even Halifax beat them home and away that season. 😎
@@GenialHarryGrout I think womba68 was referring to the guy talking at the start, who says it was Charlton's only season in management (Clive Tyldesley?), rather than the match commentator.
@@tonybaird7832 My pa-in-law lived in the vicinity of Bobby Charlton's travel shop and actually booked a few holidays there. Mr R was always friendly. As a consequence I also to saw him in the area, often in one of the local pubs (Michael Crawford and The Bachelors as well). Knowing he hated being bearded by strangers I never thought to bother him. Roll on a few years and Mr R C is running one of his sports days for the company I worked for, presumably earning a fair amount of dosh from it. My son (very handsome little boy) and another lad had their pictures taken with him for publicity and for the local rag. Near the end my son asked me to get his autograph as he was too shy. I asked politely as he was doing a few at the time for others. You'd have thought I'd asked him for money. He fixed the distance with a basilisk stare, peremptorily signed as quck as possible, and silently handed me said paper, without ever looking in my direction or saying a word. Only sorry that I didn't tell him to F off, but then I had my job to consider.
@@harryflash4680 A 'GB team was playing in Cardiff, I waited outside the hotel for autographs, there were some great stars there. Bobby Charlton could barely be bothered to sign my book and I was only 13 at the time, I thought he was quite rude. The nicest one of all that day? George Best :)
@@tonybaird7832 - Never met Bestie though I saw him play lots of times. Everyone says, whatever else, he was a really decent bloke. Not surprised by your other comment at all.
