Met Bobby Davis Jr. at Hanford, Ca in 1989 driving the #10 Casey Luna Ford powered Sprint Car in the WoO event there. I bought a sweatshirt and Bobby was gracious enough to sign it. Was really happy when he won the WoO championship that year. Still have that shirt too.
What a nice individual. Saw him race out in California in the mid 1980's. Read about him in Open Wheel magazine. Sprint car racing is great today, but the 80's and 90's were the greatest years in my book.
Gambler Chassis was in Hendersonville Tn, a section of Nashville. Kenny Rogers was not the owner or involved in it. The welder at Gambler raced karts. He actually did some welding on my kart. One of the Gambler cars had Kenny Rogers name on it. The rear push bumber had a nickel welded in it heads up for an even year tails for an odd year the car was built in. Doug Wolfgang drove the Gambler house car one year ,the 18 car.
i notice he said nothing about the year he won the outlaw title that was the time sammy steve and wolfgang tried to start there own sprint car series and those three did not show up at world of outlaws shows
Yes Doug it was the United Sprint Association...but Bobby Davis JR still had to execute and win races...which he did...But the car he won the WoO championship driving the vivarin #10 car...Davis was a good champion. I saw him eat swindell, stenhouse, gallagher, and ward to name a few...he was really good.
I could be mistaken, but I don't believe Vivarin came on as a sponsor of the Casey Luna #10 until sometime after BDJ won the championship. Never saw their name on the car during the BDJ era.
Martin says/ hey bobby ,tell us about the night at williams grove you stuffed van may into the second turn fence, then you went on to win the feature. In victory lane the fans turned ugly Weikert got hit on the head with afull can of beer and it took the cops to get you out of the place
