They had everyone dip the onion ring in sauce, sure ok, but they’re apparently different sauces? I mean come on, so he has another factor working in his favor because Bobby is a beast with sauces, it could have simply been Bobby’s sauce was better and they got more of that flavor than the onion ring flavor. Also if you fry food you’re supposed to put them on a wire rack not paper towels Bobby wtf how much experience he has and he rested his on paper towels ???

Ratatouille moment at @3:34 where you can just tell how good Andy's onion rings are by Bobby's immediate reaction when he tastes it. Bobby was easily blown away and almost couldn't speak. His subtle compliment right after and how serious he got after joking around makes me think Andy's onion rings tasted better.
@RoninXDarknight
@RoninXDarknight 4 года назад
Maybe not better necessarily but he definitely thought they were very good which I'm willing to bet Andy took as a major compliment. Nor do I think Andy was that miffed about the loss...as he mentioned, Bobby has decades of experience on him so the results were really to be expected.

They definitely shouldn't of allowed sauce... cause you can hear the crunchy noise from Bobby's Onion Rings... where it sounded like a tortilla chip crunch, while Andy's sounded like a fluffy Cheetos crunch. Pretty sure Bobby's sauce probably taste better, along with the fact that the onion ring is crunchier... while Andy's is probably better to just eat plain without the sauce.

A bunch of commenters have said the same thing, but I don't see it as being a big deal. If anything, I would think it would work against Flay since he works for Scripps while the other guy is a colleague of the people judging (Bon Appetit, Conde Nast). Maybe it's just me, but if I was going to be biased, it would be towards the guy on my "side".
@sundarpichai940
@sundarpichai940 8 лет назад
Of course, you ignore the "if anything" portion. This isn't testing an item that likely has a large placebo effect -- we're talking about onion rings here. I trust that people will generally be honest about what onion ring they prefer. You have two types of rings here -- one with a buttermilk/flour dredge which will create a southern fried chicken-type crust and the other with flour and carbonated liquids (beer and club soda) which will create a beer batter-type crust. I think people just prefer the fried chicken crust. That said, I think the bigger flaw in the test is allowing a dipping sauce because are we sure that they weren't reacting to the sauce? It would have been better to either not allow sauces or to use a standard sauce (like a certain brand of ketchup or ranch dressing).

Even flour/corn starch mixture, buttermilk. Add a pinch of cayenne, salt, pepper to both the flour/corn starch mixture and egg white/buttermilk wash. Single dredge. Fry at 300° for 5 minutes then strain and place on wire rack to cool and dry out a bit for 10 minutes. Increase oil temperature to 370° and place onion rings back in oil for 60 seconds, flipping once midway. Remove and season with mixture of salt, pepper, and fresh thyme & rosemary. I have to disagree. Beer batter works best on things like okra, whereas buttermilk does tend to compliment onion rings better without being overpowering. Most beer batters have buttermilk in them so kinda the best of both worlds. I personally love onion rings, have had them in hybrid batters, true beer batters, and true buttermilk batters. It's really hard to beat buttermilk batters because they are simple, don't overpowering the onion, and something everyone likes. Not everyone likes the flavor of beer which is why he lost
@bluetextonwhitebg

The tone of this video made me realize how conditioned I am to competition needing to feel tense. Due in fact to there not being music that puts me on the edge of my seat, Ryan Seacrest telling me the final results after the break, a little score in the corner of the video with cut-outs of each fighter's face. This felt like that part of the acid trip where the meaningful thoughts have stopped and you want to start improving your life or connect to your best friend, but its the feeling of anticipation and knowing its all for nothing combined.
