In this VladTV exclusive, Bobby Luisi detailed his time as a made man in the Philadelphia mafia. Luisi talked about growing up in Boston around made men, bosses, and capos of the Patriarca crime family before becoming involved with the group by the age of 11. While he distanced himself from mafia activities during his 20s, he returned after the stock market crashed during the late-80s. While Luisi was involved in card clubs, bookmaking, and loan sharking, he said his cocaine operation made a few million dollars "right away." He detailed the events that led to his father, brother, and cousin getting killed in a restaurant shooting and explained his decision to leave the Patriarca family to join the Philadelphia mob. To hear more, view the full interview above.

I’m a retired career cop, and I really enjoy this interview. He is well spoken, funny, serious, and intelligent. He is one of my “favorite gangsters” if one can describe them as such. The other two are Michael Francese and Sammy the Bull. He gives the impression that he would be a great guy to have a drink with at a pub and just chat about his remarkable career. It was hilarious that he wasn’t sure which murder they were charging him with. 😂

Sound naive which makes me think you being a retired cop is cap. "Retired career cop" the word career seems redundant and I've never heardba retired cop call himself a retired "career" cop.. also your "favorite gangsters" are just some of the most well-known mainstream ones and Sammy the Bull was a terrible person who was involved in 19 murders. He's one of your favorite gangsters? And someone you look up to? As a retired "career" cop?

I'm a great grandmother and in my experience, both "teaching" and "supervision/management" are separate disciplines. Mr. Luisi strikes me as highly intelligent and sophisticated. I too started working when I was 11 with a morning paper route. Back then you had to collect, try and get new customers, be incredibly reliable, and incredibly self-disciplined (for around that age). You learn customer service skills, time management skills, possibly some sales. Then Mr. Luisi starts and runs a successful construction operation which requires being "teachable," observant, and a host of other skills and knowledge. He takes all of this with him into the drug business. That's why it appears so easy for him, especially relative to his competition. His story also demonstrates the connection between socioeconomic conditions and criminal activity. Wall Street pooped the bed and Main Street paid the freight, as usual. If the economy hadn't collapsed, this man might have never gotten into any serious criminality. I would also note that his work experience means he knows how to supervise and manage, but only with (relatively speaking) small organizations. This is one of the reasons why he got to a certain level and stayed there. And unlike in the legal business world, potential employees willing to be involved in serious criminal activity means a small pool of potentially quality hires. Most who are involved in criminal activity, especially serious criminality, are people who failed out of school, have a history of child abuse which results in an array of issues (including mental health and substance use issues) that can negatively impact an employee's performance and reliability. Even just possessing good judgment and critical thinking skills, particularly habitually maintained over time. You can see this phenomenon in "Good Fellows," where the main character is coked out, the people he is using such as a girlfriend and the baby sitter are careless, undisciplined, and display poor judgement, reliability, etc. As such, he gets busted. .

The guys who keep growing ALWAYS get caught or killed. Every single time. It's inevitable. The very rare cases that didn't are guys like Freeway Rick Ross and THAT'S ONLY because the feds were letting him do it to fund south American rebels who were using the money Ross was spending with them to fund a war to overthrow their government that the USA wanted out. Ross wasn't even aware the feds knew everything about his operation but were allowing him to continue to fund the cartel/rebels. Crazy right? This is straight from Ross' mouth

Though they all understand and acknowledge they had a choice in the matter and it’s clear they did, you also have to remember these guys were young and inexperienced with life just like most us have been and still are today. I had a friend in Chicago who's father was old school mafia. He told me his dad would never tell him anything about that part of his life because he didn't want him following his example. His health was pretty bad and he didn't go out much. I was always polite, as I would be to anyone's father, and of course would never have considered asking about that. At the same time, when I'd been over a few times, he told me not to bother paying the parking meter anymore. I didn't and never got a ticket even when cars next to mine did. There was also no graffiti in that neighborhood.
