Bobcat Chases Me Into My Jeep!

This is a video of me releasing a bobcat from a leghold trap set for coyote. During the release the bobcat scratches me and gives me a small cut on my wrist. The bobcat then chases me back into my Jeep and hides below the Jeep until I push the start button at which time you can see the bobcat run away from under the vehicle.

Saw a woman on RU-vid who invented a more humane and effective tool to untrap animals (other than a neck noose). A rectangle with a cutout hole at the bottom to let the trapped foot through but blocked the animal from lunging. It had a handle on it to hold in place between you and the trapped animal. So much easier.

About 15 years ago one cold morning I went into to work at the railroad I work for as a carman and had to do some adjustments on a coal cars drop doors. I got the coal cars wheels chocked and checked the tie brake. I slide under the car and a Bob Cat dropped down and took off running away from me. I assume he was under the frame on top of the axel. Craziest thing I ever seen.

Trapping is the laziest cruelest way to hunt, can't believe that people still do it. REALLY can't believe it's still legal. I would have to be literally starving to death to use a trap. I don't even believe in tree stands honestly . Hunting should be hunting, pretty soon the lazy hunters will be hunting with drones from their living room while drinking a beer.
@coldfire420
@coldfire420 3 года назад
all these people who use these traps say its a humane trap I think that is bullshit... lets see their arm pined down to a trap and make them roll around and tell me it doesn't hurt their arm one bit... the cat probably nearly pulled its arm out of its socket or at the very least tore a muscle flailing around like that. No shit it wants to take a breather after being freed. Its in pain or out of breath after that ! Let alone how long its been trapped and not eaten plus the bobcat could already been starving and now its even weaker after all that stress.
@charlesritter6640
@charlesritter6640 3 года назад
@@coldfire420 predators need to be relatively healthy in order to hunt (eat and feed their young ) when a trap shatters their leg /ankle they slowly starve to death, it would of been MUCH MORE humane to just kill it. @@FL.Cracker does sound like fun I admit, and I actually have no problem with something like that if animal populations need to be culled or invasive species etc etc. I'm mainly against animals suffering needlessly. My dad was a bow hunter and his best friends did some poaching, baiting bears etc etc. So I have seen it from both sides, not everyone is healthy enough to hike up and down canyons etc. So I would typically reserve helicopter hunting for disabled people if I was in charge of things.

I reside in the Great Evergreen State of Washington and bobcats are rarely ever seen, but when you do see them, it's best to keep your distance. They will not attack unless they feel threatened. I know you were trying to free it from the trap here, but do try to be more careful in the future. Not a good idea to throw a stick at it like that. That was a close call! Great video, though!

Coyotes have become a pest in certain areas and are killing native animals on large scales, you catch 9 Coyotes and 1 Animal will be a "accidential catch". Animal rights groups ar e supporting the Hunting and Killing of certain animals to prevent damage on native animals. Such as invasive snakes or fish etc.

@@sanyGW What the fuck are you talking about? Zero damage? Have you ever had to release an animal from one of those traps? I have, every one of them either domestic animals or non-game wild animals. If you believe you can just pop open a trap like that and the animal just goes about its business with no harm done then you've never actually seen this stuff with your own eyes. I live in a rural part of the country and I know people who do animal rescue. They routinely have to deal with animals caught in these traps, and most of them at the very least are crippled or outright lose a foot. Just ask a veterinarian in any community that allows trapping. They could correct your bullshit for you right quick. And your talk of invasive species and all that bullshit is utterly beside the point. I kill invasive species, namely feral pigs. Anyone who has ever tried to do any farming or animal husbandry in the South hates feral pigs like he hates Smallpox. But you know what? We still kill them quickly, and cleanly, and inflict as little suffering as possible on the animal. You know why? It's not because we love pigs. I shouldn't have to explain why. But here's just a start: BECAUSE YOU'RE A CRUEL, AMORAL, DESPICABLE PIECE OF COWARDLY SHIT if you willfully inflict unnecessary suffering even on the animals you hate. I know people who shoot coyotes. I don't myself because they're a natural part of the environment where I live and most of the reasons given for shooting them are unscientific laughable bullshit. But still, they are legal to kill and I have friends who kill them. Guess what? THEY KILL THEM QUICKLY AND CLEANLY AND DON'T MAIM OR TORTURE THEM FOR HOURS BEFORE KILLING THEM. That's the whole point. If you had a brain, or a moral bone in your body anywhere, these things would not have to be explained to you.

My retired dentist recently deceased friend trapped 14 coyotes on the same set from December thru march. We released 3 foxes and one bobcat ,appeared to be 35 to 40 pounds. We didn’t weigh him. The foxes with their tiny legs were released and we never saw them limping or appearing to have any injury. My friend from Connecticut grew up in the depression and had trapped for money as a young boy, just as my dad did in the Appalachian mountains in rural southwest Virginia. He would call me to help him release the foxes. I remember the first day we released one. He handed me a 24 X 39 inch piece of carpet which I held over the trapped fox, he would grab the chain and pull the leg out from under and release the struggling fox. When he called me to go help hi, he said with a sly smile, you’ll never guess what I caught. He handed me the carpet I immediately said no way in h-- . He said don’t be such a pu. I said ok but next time you’d better bring a bigger piece of carpet. As I approached him he was caught in north of the two traps set. At 5 yards he let out a growl and charged me breaking free of the front leg trap. I’ve never been so scared. We got him out without a scratch. My friend backed up, I pulled the carpet remnant covering him and retreated. Like the one you caught, he just lay there, while we watched for 20 minutes to see if he was hurt. He finally got up ,walked slowly away looking back as if he thought we were going to attack him. Like the foxes he had no apparent injury. I have pictures, no video. I didn’t have my iPhone back then. He was an extraordinary trapper, woodsman, and my wife and I will always have fond memories of our friend.

Tasmanian Devil. That was all I could think of when that thing was going nuts. Bobcats have a foul temper for sure. But he did calm down once he was released from the trap.

Only wildcats we have in UK are scots ones. They are not much bigger than domestics, but they just look kind of slightly different, and wildy.

Bobcats aren't big but they're unholy terrors when they're pissed. It's a good thing you didn't trap him in a phone booth. You'd have to break out the sandpaper and... well, you'd have had a bad time.
