After months patiently waiting a bobcat finally returns to the log crossing the swamp! What a nice surprise and for a plot twist he came back for a second time allowing me to capture some very unique and special images!!

The 'ghost' image is awesome! To me it represents how elusive the cat is, at home in its environment. I'd claim that you planned it that way :)

Your enthusiasm is infectious; it is great to see the obvious pleasure that your success brings. For me, the first image is the best. The lighting is perfect with a good rim light and yet still enough detail in the cat. The positioning is also superb with the starlight adding the final touch..... An excellent image.

I have to say all three shots are great. The ghost cat long exposure type image was definitely very interesting. If the sky had been blue like in the first shot, it would have been even more amazing. My favorite, though, is definitely that first one. Even though he's smaller in the frame, though whole composition and feel to the photo is just something special. I look forward to more videos as always. Cheers from Maine. :) Paula

Congratulations Neil! I am sure there are plenty of amazing photos to come. I don't know how many times I am going to say it, but I gotta set up cameras with fallen logs. It is on my to do list this spring as soon as most of our snow up here in Quebec is gone. Keep the videos coming!

That's a great shot! Congratulations on your hard work paying off! One way I recently learned to prevent lens flare is to use a grid on the light. For the DIY lights we use in camera trapping it could be something like an egg crate light diffusion panel, cut to size and spray painted black. Then attached over the front of the flash. It narrows the beam of light coming from the flash to control where it goes. One thing to watch for though is that it does reduce the amount of light so you'd have to increase power a little.
@NeilJernigan
@NeilJernigan 2 года назад
Thanks Melani! Yes a grid would work perfect! I've got a small one that I use occasionally I try to take it next time I go :)

You definitely take amazing pictures! While watching this and listening to your information.. it reminds me of my nephew. You two are about the same age.. but he's on the opposite end of the wildlife spectrum. He's a hunter/trapper and let me tell you he's just as dedicated as you seem to be. He's gotten so many animals the past several months highlighted by his bobcat! He drags his four year old daughter along during his adventures. His target species is actually coyote and he's gotten a bunch of them. Some big beavers too! Fishing season kicks off shortly so he'll be busy catching stripers and lake trout! Once again he catches more than his share! What I'm conveying is he's dedicated and good at what he does. Yes.. as an animal lover I feel bad.. but I also see his side of things too. The coyotes have made a huge impact on the deer here in Pennsylvania. So he's saving fawns and deer while participating in conservation. Keep up the good work.. you're amazing pictures and videos are priceless!

Hi Neil, great vid! Awesome bobcat photo's. I do have a question, have you ever used the built-in flash from one of the canons as a fill light or something? Or would you get those reflective eyes? I was hoping to solve that by putting on a diffuser.. Hope to hear from you, would like to hear your perspective on it!

How close do you put the sensor from the potential subject? Often it seems that the sensor will not register the animals movement. I have the sensor set to medium sensitivity to avoid to many empty images.

So the question is how much for a copy of the bobcat 1 photo size a3
