The reason characters shout out their moves is because in Manga it takes a lot to show exactly what is happening every time, so the first time you show the full attack and say what it is, then from then on you can say the name and have a single action shot from it, and people can fill in the blanks of what it looks like in their mind. Then when Shonen anime started, they didn’t remove it from the anime since the names were iconic from the manga, so we have that now.
@@litewrk8655I saw it in an article specifically about it, but I can’t remember if it actually quoted a mangaka or someone in the anime industry. It’s been a while since I first saw it, but it’s stuck with me since it makes sense.
that’s pretty much it. it’s also why the trope of characters explaining their abilities became so prevalent. as an aspiring mangaka myself, trying to convey abstract powers through motionless art is difficult without some kind of context.
This podcast was my intro to Danny like a year ago, and Nick was right. He’s one of the funniest people on earth, and a savage. This podcast is for sure a bright point in my week
13:27 I think that speaks to his confidence in his relationship. When you know you don’t have to worry, you don’t really care if people try. It’s mostly funny.
One of the funniest moments this last year for me was when Nick got Danny with the Imagine Dragons these nuts across his chin lmao Top funniest imo was when Nick opened the first spaghetti gift and Santa Danny’s response was “Oh you’ve been a very good boy this year!” 😂😂😂
To Danny: while Pokemon saying their names is stupid, the dumbest thing to ever happen in the Pokemon anime was in the 3rd gen, Ruby and Sapphire seasons. He literally used an electric attack on his own Pikachu and Swellow (A FLYING TYPE THATS WEAK TO IT) in the middle of a gym battle and instead of it killing the bird, IT BECAME GOLDEN ARMOR. Literally doesnt make sense at all. The dumbest moment by far
Actually that was a result of a translation error. In the original Japanese version there was no "golden thunder armor", but instead it was Ash taking advantage of the fact his Swellow had the Ability Guts, which powers up your Attack if that Pokemon has a status effect. So by giving paralysis to his Swellow he upped its attack combined with Pikachu added support it was actually a risky yet devastating team combination. Crazy I know but, then again it would not be Ash if he did not use an off the wall strategy. Sadly it did not get carried into the English dub at the time and thus the rest is history.
Can we fix the problem where Nick's camera focuses on the box they run all the cables through as a present for 1 year of this podcast? Other than that, happy one year!
7:23 as someone who writes manga, the main reason that I’d have my character yell out their attacks, is so that the viewer knows whats going on/which attack is being used and what to expect from that attack.
Bro this opening is so good! "I dropped the camera!!" Also, no way they're drinking soju. Really didn't wanna be drunk, I guess. I don't understand why my people made this stuff, honestly.
@@billwooten5263exactly, that’s why I only drink everclear because that will make me drunk the fastest. You know people don’t just drink to get smashed right? Getting a little buzzed and joking with your friends is why people drink more often than not, soju is perfect for that, it tastes good and you can take your time getting drunk with your friends.
@@Blacktoothoneil I'm not sure who pissed in your Cheerios but your fighting ghosts. I wasn't insulting Soju lol. I was explaining what the comment meant to those asking 'huh'. But keep going off it's entertaining 🍿
Never thought I'd hear talks about drinking and cocaine LOL amazing; time to do a few lines (in game ofc) and finish this podcast! Anyhow great content as always guys. I kinda wish during the drinking game, that I knew what the truths/lies were after the guesses were wrong lol. Only got these for some of them but great time anyhow!
Been here for every episode every week, I was grateful y’all made this. Enjoy the long episodes, I have long drives to work/school so the longer the better. Best of luck for another year!!
I need to drink with Nick sometime....I feel like it would be a fairly equal footing and a great time! I obviously need Danny there to keep us level and for shenanigans. I could talk Naruto all dayyy.
Wolf isnt going to run into sword, they are pack animals, they wont attack till your flanked, and they will each lash out, and keep at semi safe distance, and collapse on you. If you manage to stab them you should watch Grimgar Fantasy of Ash, the sword likely to get stuck or have issue getting back out.
13 minutes in and I know this is gonna be an episode for the history books. Also the Danny story with the dude at the club is by far one of the funniest things either of these 2 have done
I wish characters using broken or chipped weapons becomes more frequent, thats what made Meliodas interesting to me at the beginning, like the this dude is so powerful that having a regular sword would be cheating.
This podcast has been my favorite thing to watch each week, thank you for all the laughs and here’s to another year. Also my favorite joke so far has been that time Danny was making a joke about people who think the big 3 was a subjective thing and he said if you disagree with my big 3 you can suck on these (his balls). Nick then says you can suck on my big 2, Dan was like your running circles around me today Nick and then says “Your fucking me Nick, YOUR FUCKING ME” while Nick falls into hysterical laughter.
Also, Wolves have been known to kill Bears. They don't just go after the weakest. Thats just usually the most efficient strat, but if it comes down to hit Wolves will throw with most things.
One of y’all should have taken “Sarah likes muscles” in the draft. “You don’t like muscles!!” “When have I ever said that” “EVERY TIME I TAKE MY CLOTHES OFF”
Tbf, ichigo’s alway’s been a scrapper. That time he called 5 ambulances for those dudes who messed with chad really showed how he’s kinda always been a different breed, which eventually is explained by his heritage
This episode was great nick talking about the statues of countries was great I just imagined the Statue of Liberty doing the gogeta hand counter and I was fucking crying
So the thing about Ed in FMAB, I think he cares more about getting Al's body back than he cares about getting his own limbs back. I think he humors Al by saying "Lets get OUR bodies back", but really, if it turned out that he could never get his arm back, he couldn't care less.
i just wanna say... regarding the legendary trios in all gens.. the one in gen 3 is the titans/regis, REGICE, REGIROCK, and REGISTEEL... i think Danny has a point about the legendary trios in all gens but i really like the birds, goofy designs and all
Nobara is a cool character but the thing is she doesn't have a clear goal like yuji and fushiguro. But that is more because she is like a character who already completed her arch and is more guiding her classmates. Like she did with juyi teaching him when not to care with her whole bus metaphore. Even though the assistents and gojo should be the adults of the group but since they don't come with in to battle very often. None of them are the real leaders calling the shots because they trust in eachother and strategise togheter. But I see her as the leader.
Nah the best moment in the podcast wasn't mentioned. Nick surprising Danny about the Toph interview and then directly after answering the question "what anime pet would you want in the real world?" Nick says Nina Tucker and Danny literally dies. The last like 5 minutes of that podcast are the best 5 minutes on youtube in my opinion. Also the ep where they died listening to frog type beat for like 10 minutes easily shouldve been picked higher
