@@bababa4275 there is no way that chick survived! Did you not see mom stab it with her beak multiple times? Then the fall.... unless the chick was made of rubber, I HIGHLY doubt it survived.
This 'run't chick wasn't popular with the older chicks. If you notice at 1:30 on this video, after it had been chunked out the side and to certain death, chick #2 got up and lunged forward, as if taking one last shot at the evil #3 chick. Here we see her, probably knowing that she's on her way out, still bossing #1 and #2 around, even taking aggressive hits at them when the adult is trying to grab it. Both take it without responding, which is the way they do this stuff. The adult had taken a brief shot at #3 the day before, sort of half-assed effort and it got away, but not before attacking the others violently and for 10 to 15 minutes. It then proceeded to eat most of the food the adult had puked up for chow. In fact, #3 was eating much more food than t he others, probably more than it should, which in the long run hurts the others. Chances are good they'll survive to adulthood. If you watch some of the earlier, than the later vids, you can see the effect #3 had on the nest till after it was killed. After, the 2 chicks appear happy and of energy. Before, both were a bit slow and weak while #3 was active, aggressive and basically bullying them all the time. You can see from the very first vids that #3 was going to be a problem. It would get in position, front and center, to eat. As it grew up it would do the same, but this time it started eating the others portion. #2, for example, was a frequent target of #3 who would steal food he was trying to eat. It started fighting with #1 as well, getting him to back off and leave its food for #3. Like many runts #3 had a Napoleon Complex. The mother, however, figured enough was enough. It wasn't going to waste food on this little runt who probably wouldn't survive outside of the nest (too short). Plus, it was eating too much food. Even then nothing it did could calm down #3 and soon it was causing too many issues. Contrary to folk lore, the adults don't like to kill their own chicks. But, their survival gene is the key to survival outside the nest. Mean, aggressive, nasty and hungry #3 failed the stork size test and met its fate.
