To be clear, mammals, including humans, have renal circulation (ie, kidneys), of course. What makes our kidneys different from animals that have renal "portal" systems (as described here) is that *our* kidneys receive their entire blood supply from arteries coming directly from the heart, rather than veins that gather blood from the capillaries of other organs.
