Tahir I wasn't hugged as a child either. My mom did not like hugs at all! But I was older I was surrounded by huggers. You will get used to it. When it's genuine people who love you it's hard to keep up that shield. Also I get a hug from my mom once in a while now too 😄

Geechee is the language of the Gullah people. If you visit Charleston, there are still some small communities that live there. The Spanish did colonize South Carolina around the time the British did as well, so there could be some influence, but mainly from West African dialects.

The gullah people are descendants of enslaved people who enslaved to the highly inaccessible Islands along the Carolina coast. These communities remained largely untouched and well intact until technology improved enough to allow for easier travel. Gullah although English in origin it has been taken and adapted to better suit more African tongues being that most of the gullah escaped bandage. Most of them were never quite had enough time to fully learn English. In totality gullah is an English pidgin or creole with borrowed words from various west African languages. But gullah tends to follow west African language rules and structure as opposed to English

Last year I went on a whole search for my dad's side. Turns out we own land down in Alabama. Like a large plantation amount of land. Anyway, went I got to the land the man (distant cousin) was questioning and I was showing family pictures. And said that's my dad. He said, "Yeah, he got that Banks head." We have big heads. I feel Kev’s pain! I used to love wearing fitted hats back in the day when I had a short hair cut and a relaxer. I wore a 7 3/4 or an 8 when I let my hair grow out. Geechee folk speak with a west African dialect..not a slave dialect. Enslaved Africans spoke in dialects from their home countries. Geechee/Gullah is just considered its own culture because the people did not mix or assimilate to European/ indigenous cultures. We were isolated on islands off the coast of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida so they was able to keep a lot of their African culture. So we speak very similar to west Africans, grow rice the same way, farm other foods and eat very similarly to our west African ancestors.
