UPDATE! I'M NOW OFFERING CONSULTS AND FULL STYLE ANALYSIS REPORTS! These are not "Kibbe" style analyses, rather a completely personalized evaluation of your body yin/yang balance and essence. So I still use familiar terms such as Dramatic, Natural, Classic, Romantic, Gamine and Ingenue.....but my evaluations are 100% custom; they are not designed to assign you an archetype, rather offer you a clear outline of your unique characteristics and total balance. Elyssa, this is a treasure trove of information! I've been studying Kibbe body types for about a year and you're the first RU-vidr I've found who has covered McJimsey and Northrop. Thank you for educating us about these amazing female pioneers of fashion and style. All your hard work and research really shows in your presentations and I'm so looking forward to more!
Wendy Bone thank you so so much! Yes, these women need more recognition and credit for the incredible work that they did. I mean they were both very forward thinking, especially for the era! I can’t wait to publish more videos and keep the dialog going around these two 🤗
I believe Merriam Style has mentioned them, but hasn't gotten into the details. I agree though, I'm happy about this video and how it presents the history of the body type/essence/image ID idea, not just the latest contributers to the idea/system.
i like that romantic and classic were paired as intermediate by McJimsey because i feel i have both characteristics, but Kibbe’s spectrum made that feel unlikely, so i’ve been super confused. haha laughing a bit about Jared Leto and “The Daring Pirate Angel”
I sense that an evolution is on the way in the way women understand and approach beauty and fashion. I am so thankful that you are at the forefront of this important work. Thank you
Thank you for making this informational and understandable. I've seen others talking about Kibbe, and thought, finally a realistic approach. Then went on to the Kibbe page and was like: This is nothing of the things I heard about his work so far. A little frustrated because I still couldn't figure out what I was. But then I went back to the Pears and Apples, and the easiest is basicaly, when you don't let others dictate you how you are supposed to look. For example: I have a thick neck and need a v neck or a shawl optic around my neck or else I look like swollen. Then I have wide shoulders, that means, no tank tops or they look even wider - and definately no frills! All that stuff. The easiest way is to google exactly for your needs: How to dress big hips, how to dress short legs, how to dress small chest, how to dress small waist, etc. And than puzzle all the information together and make it your own style.
Wow just found you today your attention to detail is inspiring. Taking this all in likely will reach out for personal services when I’m clear on my goal aka “why”. At 62 my style has evolved by workplace needs and body changes not having a waist anymore has been quite a style adjustment but in hindsight a good growth opportunity.
WOW Elyssa, what a masterpiece you created! The web lacked this kind of content, and your insight is so fresh and passionated! Loved this iteresting tilt to the more "classic" body types videos. Thank you! ❤ Sending love to everyone reading this.
This video was SO helpful to me! I’ve felt so confused by the Kibbe system recently, even though it’s great. I feel like a mix of a couple types which is why it’s so refreshing to hear about these other systems! Thank you for giving them the recognition they deserve!
This was just a great video. It shows all the hard work you put on it. Thank you for all the information you gathered and the really beautiful way in which you displayed it. I now want to delve more myself into each of them. Probably after that I’ll get to an answer to your question. I’m just so used to Kibbe’s system that seeing other approaches being exposed and explained on RU-vid is refreshing. Congrats!
Elyssa Thank you for your incredible videos and the passion you put into helping people feel more content with themselves. Sometimes it’s really tricky when you feel that the world wants to sell you an unique ideal of beauty. You show us you shouldn’t work against your nature but with it. That there is no need to change but to learn and appreciate what you got.
Wow I really needed this today! I was very frustrated, I was kind of bullied for saying that I could probably be TR and after that I started thinking " he's just one person why should I take his ideas to 100% ? " Kibbe method has certainly helped me to understand my lines but I don't fit in any of his boxes 😅 I consider myself as a longer TR which kind of sounds like McJimsey's Romantic. I was feeling pretty bad because he seems to be very strict when it comes to height. I'm 5'7, I don't really have the SD/D bone structure so I can't really pull off the structure, the sharpness.. R lines fit me nicely, ankle lenght jeans are actually flattering and dont cut my linea, at the same time I can still work with some length specially if the fabric isn't too heavy. I'm very delicate, even my voice is yin so I really can't wait to watch more of your videos about the other methods ! I feel more included 😊
I cannot begin to express how happy I am for you!!! It sounds like you know what works for you and are now able to make nuanced modifications as you continue your style journey!!!! That’s what it’s all about imo 💛💛 And I actually really love McJimsey’s spectrum of yin/yang and it makes total sense that Romantic is more central. I’m so excited that you feel included 💕 We’re all so a unique mixture of yin/yang that it’s best to just start with identifying yin/yang and move forward from there😉 Baby steps towards a well curated personal style!
Same!!! I immediately felt more at home with Mc Jimsey’s romantic type than in kibbe’s system and I feel similarly about the specific kibbe types you mentioned too
Kat thank you!!! lol I’m in DEEP on this whole yin/yang approach to styling 😆 But I think it makes so much sense and can really help those of use who struggle to see our own beautifully unique attributes 🙃
I really enjoy these comprehensive and research based videos. I have beeeeennnnnnn binge watching and rewatching these videos for the past year honestly and there is so much meat in your videos! I really appreciate the time and effort that you put and i am looking forward to more videos from you.
Great video! I am so happy to see Northup and McJimsey get the credit they deserve. I am looking forward to video deep dives into some of the other systems, especially Olga's. TIB I am very familiar, looking forward to your take on that one as well.
When I started researching the Kibbe body types I was really confused about the similar, but different charts and categories that were popping up. This video really helped me understand the history and development of these concepts. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together!
Oh my god…this is one of the most amazing videos on Body Types I’ve ever seen (and I know some great ones…)! You did a fantastic job, thank you so much for all these new and inspiring information. And this video was not a minute too long. It was way to short… I want to know EVERYTHING about Belle, Harriet, John, Olga and all the others…! This is such an fascinating topic. I’m sure there are lots of people who appreciate your work and effort as much as I do…thank you again! Made my day...
I'd just like to say that although we may be the star of our own life in our POV, so is every other person. Most people are only thinking of themselves. This is a good thing. You don't have to worry so much about what other people think. But also I think it's bad to think this way and get too caught up in your own personal image... You should have fun with this stuff. No pressure :)
Wow I’ve spent the last few weeks developing a good grasp of the Kibbe body type system, but was at a loss at the Essence side of things, til you introduced the last couple “honorable mention” ladies! I feel I can really work with these to understand them! Thank you so much!
I've been leaning about Kibbe. The rest is new to me so I really appreciate the video. You obviously did your homework and put alot into this. Awesome.
This video was excellent! Thank you for putting it together, it’s well-researched. I’d love to hear more about McJimsey, and the two newer systems. I like the idea of being a blend of archetypes, and I do think ingenue and ethereal essences should be a consideration.
Hey Elyssa! I was diagnosed by Olga Brylinska's great method 3 years ago. It was life changing event for me. It helped me not only to find my own unique style of clothing but also to find out why I chose these particular fashion pieces and why people see me in a certain way. It is really liberating!
Thank you for the effort you put into this video. I found it very informative. Personally I've come to lean towards being a composite type. Not in the sense offered by Kibbie's sub types, but I feel that some of us could be mixtures of any type within his spectrum. Rather than being a soft classic, I consider myself a romantic with some classic and gamine features that need to be considered in my style. This mainly stems from having classic ingenue facial features and a romantic body. I feel that individuals who find it hard the type themselves, or who are not completely happy with their types' recommendations may be mixtures of more than one type. I also find Olga's ethereals very useful.
This was excellent. Thank you. I’m a Kibbe Dramatic Classic. I searched for his book and paid a dear price to get it. I wish that it was still in print. I didn’t know he had updated his classifications.
Dear Elyssa, thank you so much for these videos 💛 And oh my god this about figure and type is so true...It is exactly what I've been noticing- Since I saw that I am a romantic, I started buying romantic dresses and although they fit perfectly and my body looks amazing and lush, something had been very off. I realized that although I should shop romantic LINES, colors etc.- It is the CLASSIC, put together(but still feminine) style that I prefer. In those kind of clothes I feel the most like myself, like "ready to go". 😎
I love these videos. During covid, I've been trying to figure out my personal style and this channel has been helping. Side note: the music in the beginning hurt my ears. My ears are sensitive so this might not be an issue for most people but for me I have to turn the volume way down at the start.
Great job! I have studied Kibbe and Olga, but the others are new to me. I can't wait to explore them. I see myself as Soft Classic with French and Rose Ethereals. Thank you!
Kathleen Reese oooOooo! French and rose pair so well with SC! I feel like you can kind of see which etherials would pair up well with David’s archetypes
it’s amazing and fills all the gaps I had while searching for the body types. A lot of info was confusing, but now It’s much more clear. Thank you for your in-depth research and structuring all the information for us💜
This is exactly what I've been looking for! It is amazing how you are elaborate with your research and do not take aesthetic as a subject lightly. I really appreciate it. Thanks!! Would love to watch more videos like this one. :D
This was definitely a lengthier video, but thank you so so much for breaking down everything so concisely and giving all the history! That was really really helpful in understanding where all of the systems came from.
This is so well-researched and put together, I've had a lot of questions about these different systems and your video had a lot of answers, thanks for putting it together!
That was so well done!!!! And omg it's like you had a window into my mind (and secret Pin boards) over the past few years 😂 I was geeking out hard!! I'm so excited you took it all the way back to "Mama Belle" and all the way up to Olga, and you even included Kitchener. I was doing internal happy dances! I cannot wait for your more in depth videos on each. I personally really like the McJimsey approach of composite types, that doesn't limit you to simply a yang or yin leaning of one archetype, which is the way it is handled by Truth is Beauty (whom I Pin-stalk), as you mentioned. It has always made sense to me that you could be a Classic-Natural or a Natural-Gamine, or even a third essence in there. Olga's approach make a lot of sense to me too, giving a high priority to the face, and then layering your essence over your base archetype lines. For me I think that's the only way I can make Kibbe work, because by all rights my body seems to align most closely to Soft Dramatic, and those lines seem to be the most flattering ... but then I have this ethereal looking face, and not much vixen essence to be found. If I layer Luminous and/or Mermaid everything seems a lot more harmonious. But honestly, this is all quite tricky to put together and actualize, so I'm really REALLY glad you're examining these philosophies deeper, and I'm hoping it leads to more harmony and practicality in how we can implement and execute our styles! I love this direction!!! 💜
NerdyByNature ahhhh I’m glad we’re groovin 🤙🏻 Yeah I feel like composites are the way to go for sure! And it’s definitely hard to develop an intuitive sense that these systems aim to provoke. But yeah, I can’t wait to make more videos so we can all start to pick up on all the nuances!
@@elyssa_aesthetic I know it'll be awesome!! I woke up inspired to write up my own ethereal/archetype description based on what I know for sure works on me thus far. I'm ready to start having fun with this again, instead of feeling frustrated with shoe-horning myself into a category!
Hello, this video was a amazing run into all techniques I’ve discovered online ! Your work is amazing, clear and complete overall. It will help me to extend my knowledge and discover more. I’m small with both natural and gamine features and it have been hard to navigate between. Thank you so much !
Thanks for touching on some pre-Kibbe systems which have always been a bit murky to me! FYI everyone, Kitchener has videos up on RU-vid and they're the most relaxing thing I've ever seen. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YipqKwIO1xQ.html Northrup's basic ideas of dressing to suit your particular balance are the perfect antidote to those single-minded style recommendations that claim tousled "French Girl" hair is The Most Sophisticated, or that pearl studs and pencil skirts are the only way to be "classy," or that beige clothes are objectively more chic. They're right... for some people. It reminds me of the religious fable of four blind men each describing an elephant as something completely different from each other, simply because one man felt only the trunk, one felt only the belly, and so on (the elephant represents truth or god). Not that I'm comparing personal style to religion! Anyway, I especially enjoyed the history of Northrup and McJimsey.
Omg gurl you slay!!! I love this! I’m so excited to see more of your videos later-and you deserve a big thank you from all of us who loves learning from this stuffs! Great Job on your research! It’s so extensive and just really great! 👍
Thank you Elyssa 💖, this video is very helpful and insightful! I’m impressed by the thoroughness of your research on this topic and your smoothly articulated presentation honoring each figure mentioned! Your effort is much appreciated 💖. Fyi, I found you through one of Audrey Coyne’s videos 🙂
Wow, you're amazing! I love the way you gathered together all the systems and then gave your clear personal interpretation of all of them. I've been into these body typologies for the past couple of years and you still showed me some new takes on them! I'm going to be coming back to your channel often :). Totally made my day with this video. Thank you! Btw, to answer your question, I mostly relate to Dramatic, Natural and Gamine essences in most systems. I'm definitely a yang person in build, I have length and width (that's what Kibbe said based on my photos) but I feel my inner essence, or personality, is closer to a Gamine as I'm neither poised and dignified, nor very open and expressive, but rather inviting and mercurial, for a lack of a better word. It's an interesting vibe to dress for sure :D. I'm having a bit of trouble getting it right now that I'm in my 30s. Exploring all these different systems has been a huge help and a huge maze at the same time, but I love every moment of it :).
a Large Aviary thank you so much for tuning in and dropping me a line 💛 I totally understand how foreign it can feel going through the process of rediscovering yourself through personal style. At one point I felt like I should have had this all figured out by the time I was in my kid 20’s, but that’s just not my story. So here we are now, embracing the women we truly are 💛 Best of luck on your style journey!
Thank you for all of this information. It was obviously many hours of hard work. I’ve enjoyed understanding my Kibbe type, since you introduced me to the concept, months ago. I finally understand why the clothes I’ve liked, just don’t work on me, or don’t make me feel like my true me.
Wonderful video!!! Thanks for your hard work! I'm Chinese. In our culture, men in general are considered as yang, and women as yin. Also yang means sun, and yin means shade. So that reflects some of the analysis. Just want to throw it out there :)
I identify as a theatrical romantic, and an iridescent summer (the mysterious mermaid) from David Zyla’s system. I also love to throw in a little bohemian and rock and roll edge.
Another IS here, and somewhere between R and TR because I have angelic and youthful aspects rather than straight up dramatic. Love bohemian style mixed with slightly looser romantic styles, given that I have to be careful with my joints due to Ehlers-Danlos. Crystal, rose, mermaid and star ethereals...but actually created my own spin, Dulcet Ethereal. Dulcet- pleasing to the eye or feelings; soothing. Flowing, diaphanous, tiffany, floating, softness, delicacy, mellifluent, frothy, iridescent, delicious textures; aqueous, celestial; ombres, tie dye, marbling, lush florals, dots, stars, hearts, fishscale, crochet, lace, filigree, ruffles, eyelet. LSp, LSu, SSu, SSuL colors, greys, faded jeweltones. Small amts black. Pearl, moonstone, seaglass, aquamarine, larimar; vintage, beachy, ethnic undertones possible. Yin ++++, Innocent +++, Yang+. pin.it/2M7xbhK
U really did a lot of research. Maybe a video for each type? I really enjoyed this and I also like that u suggest to look at personality and essence as this can change as we age. Thanks a bunch🤗🦋
I learn a lot from your videos. Planning to explore the last couple of approaches you mentioned so I can't say I have a favorite yet. Thanks for the great content.
I think this was an amazing video and I think it was really important to put out there and few youtubers (if any I have seen) have really done a quick rundown like this, from an unbiased perspective -- I think it can really give people who haven't done a lot of background research but likely have heard certain words thrown around a place where they could search a bit deeper and see if one system really just suits them best or if, like I think many of us, some of our personal tweaking and finding our style and what works best for us, can be assisted with more than one system -- even if we might feel pretty confident where we are in one system. For instance, I appreciate that Kibbe has certain boundaries and guides for each of his types that get more clarified, but also there is more room for individual style and some things that work for one person of one type might not be the best or need modifications to be the best for another of that type. It's still pretty intuitive and requires a lot of self reflection and trying to remain unbiased about oneself even in the more straightforward aspects, which is hard for even the most analytical types who can be unusually neutral observers when they need to about to about themselves. I have the relevant books to the systems you mentioned, and will have to reread Norton and McJimsey (I have only reread bits and pieces more recently). Both my results (with John Kitchener and style recommendations from others that feel right to me, and what felt right in what I read, both in older literature and newer systems. Ingenue mixes easily with other essences, and even looking at it more singularly, from older literature and more modern systems, the types of recommendations (ignoring that people would have to individualize them) have a far wider range than what would consist of "dressing like a child." It's definitely not something that many people might not be attracted to, even in basic cuts, or would suit everyone, which is fine. But In Kibbe and other stylists who have dismissed it very strongly, I have often seen in outcomes/purchases made with him that have ingenue elements like Peter Pan collars, Mary Jane shoes, little cute fuzzy creatures attached to purses, other various things that would definitely count as "cute" and to me definitely "ingenue". I tink it's often so emotionally loaded without really dissecting it or thinking there is a spectrum and different ideas in people's heads. Sorry for that novel lol. I appreciated all of the rest of your discussion as well.
Bridgett Mahoney Yeah I think it’s very beneficial to at least be away of all the different systems. I personally take inspiration most from McJimsey, Olga and Kibbe. And yes, it’s kind of crazy that to have the most effortless effect in personal styling it takes quite a bit of refined intuition or deep self reflection/honesty. And I believe it’s an ongoing process as we age. Yeah so I totally agree in regards to Ingenue. McJimsey really knew what she was talking about when she said that it’s very rare that someone would be pure Ingenue, but we see plenty of people with Ingenue so it’s still a very relevant archetype in my opinion. I’m actually thinking of doing a dedicated video to Ingenue because I think it’s one of the most overlook and stereotyped archetypes. Once I really started to reflect on her garment and tailoring recommendations for Ingenue I realized what she was getting at. For instance, one of her recommendations is “rococo”.....and at first I thought “who the hell would actually wear that style these days” and it provoked me to take a closer look at rococo. Then I was able to see the exactly why she recommended it and I could do my own riff on rococo for Ingenue!!! I was actually super inspired. It’s far from dressing like a child and more about incorporating extreme yin (of course). But not in Kibbe’s way of extreme yin. To me McJimsey makes way more sense when it comes to the a Romantic archetype. And yes, I’ve seen the same outcome of elements being incorporated but why do they get dismissed as Gamine when they’re actually Ingenue 🤔 This is definitely a topic that has my wheel turning and I feel a video brewing for sure.
@@elyssa_aesthetic I, too, am inspired and take from a variety of systems. And I don't even know my Kibbe type, I still am inspired by the system, maybe someday I will decide, but I still find it useful. And I understand about the Gamine thing -- I am most likely R or TR in Kibbe, but would definitely continue to do my own take on it. But I have also had some personalized style and color consults years ago, that I deeply connected with, that I have been building on and using as basis since then. And a lot of the major tennets of Gamine wouldn't fit in for the most part and I LOVE GAMINE (and I can fit in little bits here and there that I like that don't detract from what suits me, I modify for petiteness as well and so on. But I don't have any real gamine essence or the combination of opposites or can pull off a lot of what gamines can. I'm just very unlikely a gamine in Kibbe, and I'm not elsewhere and so that's the end of it, aside from occasional bits working on me since we are all individuals. Despite being petite and small framed, I really never got assumed to be gamine often (this was years ago), even in Kibbe, when less was up to date. Ingenue characteristics were sometimes associated with gamine then, but also some R's... So, I fortunately didn't get too misdirected. I also like Olga's ethereals a lot! I don't know how much I apply it other than see what fits in my already existing style though. But I get inspiration from smaller aspects of it. A lot here and there fit into my style and colors. I would love to read Northrup but the book is too expensive.
This is such a fantastic, and well-researched video essay. I learned quite a lot. I do still struggle with the underlying racial and cultural components that I feel are generally missing from these various schools of thought on body types and style aesthetics. But, I will continue to research to see where that can intersect into this conversation.
So well done! It is not easy being concise and include all the information necessary to cover a topic - as a college professor I know this is a hard task! Now with your aesthetic twist to each type you will be adding to the body of knowledge as well.
Maureen Branham wow, I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate this comment 🥺💛 It really is such a hard yet rewarding task😌 Creating this channel has proved to be a HUGE opportunity for personal growth and there’s been plenty of times I’ve questioned if I should change my format, if my content is boring and if I should just throw in the towel and do whacky editing and over-the-top personality to appeal to the masses (which would be easy BUT would not be concise and valuable information would get lost in the mix). But I’ve always been a teacher at heart. And although I do have sides to my personality that aren’t highlighted in these types of videos I decided that I value the information over entertainment for my videos. So your kind recognition of my efforts is appreciated beyond words!
ΑΜΑΛΙΑ ΓΑΖΗ well it’s cool because I feel like you’ve been doing “composite” types on your Instagram because you sometimes show the mixture of types!! Your intuition is on point 😉
@@elyssa_aesthetic Oh thank you this is a huge compliment! My analysis is based on my view point and influenced by Nana Stylist (on Instagram)! Your opinion & your view point is always welcomed & important to me.
I'm glad you mentioned Olga Brynlinska and Rachel Schmmel. I too found them in my searches when researching all this. I spent days on Olga's site. LOL. I think they're good for learning the difference between you lines and essence. Also, Olga's is good for seeing how to refine your style beyond lines. I follow her on pinterest and have pinned stuff. And I think with the essences I think people need to realize you may have more than one but that some are going to be more dominant. Like I'm Lunar, Crystal, and a bit of wild. But I can add a necklace or something that is wild and that takes care of that. Or create a refined wild look. I have a bit of mahogany and some other ones too. But the pictures were fun. I also like her typing of celebrities. I think the best one was when she did David Bowie. He's easily recognizable to the world and we all know he's a rock star and when you saw his etherial you were like, Okay, now I see how this works. Yes, he is all of those things. Or maybe I just love David Bowie. LOL. I think the truth in Beauty is good for realizing how important your face is and that yes, your face is maybe more than one type too. When I read the descriptors I felt I was Natural and Romantic mix. Went there and that was the clothing that I loved the most. Also, am a soft natural in Kibbe. So I really do think my personality is that too. This yang base with this romantic yin overlay. So with exploring all these people you can really come to see who you are and your style. I think also, learning, it's okay to not be another style is key. When you look at women in Kibbe's system, I'd say you can find a gorgeous woman in all those types, so don't think, Oh, I wish I were Romantic! I wish they wouldn't use Marilynn Monroe as an example for anything. as soon as you do, that's what people want to be. It's like using Hitler as an example for anything. Just don't use a far outlier like that. LOL I've learned, hey, I can be just as sexy as a soft natural. Or pretty. Or refined. Just have to learn who you are. So that's my 2 well, long paragraph, so, 10 cents.
Hahahah I’m a 10 cent-er myself 🙈 I get allll lengthy sometimes but I loved your response! Yeah I think it’s beneficial to get a well rounded knowledge on the overall principle of yin/yang as it pertains to style. And I totally agree! I try to avoid using Marilyn as much as possible because yes, it almost sets this precedence that you have to look like *that* when in reality it’s more of learning how garments and total looks interact with your natural attributes (both physical and non-physical) and the effect they cause (i.e. harmony, severe, boring, elevated, etc).
Hi, I’ m from Brazil and just found your channel and loving the content. I don’t work in this area ( I’m a lawer) , but all informations are very consistent and easy to understand. I will search this initial article to read and enjoy the other videos.
Love your voice, very interesting video. I am ingenue- am 40, but everyone thinks i am MUCH younger. I am small with big eyes, no wrinckles, very "delicate and soft". I shop in the children´s department, which suit me often very well- fabrics, textures,. proportions, patterns etc. I am also a bit romantic (very hourglass shaped, but delicate).
This was fantastic. Thanks so much. I identify with soft gamine /classic but also romantic ethereal. Reese Witherspoon style fits. I will follow up on the ethereal types. It does feel like it is the essence and soft classic gamine is my street style. Loving your videos.
Great video! I've been studying the Kibbe types, and the one I identify with most is soft gamine. I'm small and compact with angular face and body features and a lot of softness over all of it.
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing your findings in such an organized, interesting video. I took the Kibbe test, and my style type did not match my face and personality. Then, I came across your video and was happy to hear this is an issue. I'll definitely be delving into some of the other style experts you mentioned.
Thank you! The most current analysis should take into consideration cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery does not analyze accurately. Which there has been a surge of. Overall very interesting and informative. NORTHUP was opening a subcategorie of psychology that should have been respected. Most importantly needed in understanding the self. Thank you.
Hi Elyssa! Could you provide subtitles in Portuguese, please? I'm from Brazil and here I don't find professionals like you who approach this subject with such richness. Thank you!
I have a clear idea of my personal style and complimentary cuts and colours. Unfortunately I’m plus size and the clothes and styles that suit me simply don’t exist in my size.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm loving to learn more and more about how yin/yang knowledge can be helpful to a personalised approach on personal essence and style. Please keep going 🥰
Loved loved loved this video. So interesting! I look forward to your future videos! I went to Rachel's website and I finally feel like I found my perfect fit in her system where I would be "natural classic". From the Kibbe system I have always felt like I'm a classic (I've also done the test where I mostly answer C to everything), but didn't know exactly which one. However sometimes some of the classic examples feel a bit too stiff for me, just slightly. Not all of them though. But Rachel's view on "natural classic" describes perfectly the types of clothes I feel the best in: "The Natural Classic woman's best look is expensive and polished, but also relaxed and comfortable." and can be shortly be defined as "Casual elegance".
Great content!! I'm getting a grasp on my body type (soft dramatic), but I'm still confused about my essence. Also, as a plus size (20/22), I find it very difficult to curate a wardrobe for my body geometry. Designers, if they even acknowledge us larger women, want to drape us all is long, flowy, deconstructed lines and lightweight, airy fabrics.
Yeah not all larger women need to be draped in delicate materials. For instance, if you have depth (brought in by your coloring or essence) then you’ll be able to handle richer and slightly heavier colors and luxury materials. So it really comes down to your total interrelation ✨
I am blown by your elaborate knowledge and fascinating fashion history lecture. I loved every second of it! And what seems to me the most interesting is finding those "archetypes" in art history, what was done by Northrop in 1936 ARTicle. Especially by comparing Nefretete egyptian statue and Holy Mary statues, now I am trying to think about those archetypes in art history eras and that is a great, great adventure. For example : Boticellis Venus is Romantic. Rococo (puttos, sweet ladies) must be Ingenue (the light, sexy gamine). There is so much to explore. What interests me is the fact that people throughiut the history saw those different angles of feminity and expressed it, in some eras they highlighted one types, and in next years they were drawn to other aesthetics. There is a great poem on that by Polish writer, Szymborska, literature NoblePrize winner, who wrote about baroque, that skinny, dramatic or birdlike-delicate women were hiding then on the other side of the canvas, casue women were supposed to be fleshy and "rich". : here is the translation inwardboundpoetry.blogspot.com/2009/04/782-rubins-women-wislawa-szymborska.html My absolute favorite in Northrup, she was genius. The rest was just exploring her thought. She was so insightful, to find those archetypes, and to name it. Smart woman! Thank You for sharing your knowledge, it was worth it to see your video.
Yes there is SO much to explore!!! Thank you so much for sharing this poem! That is what I love most about this methodology; there's a place for everyone.
