Body-Worn Camera Footage from June 19th Trooper-Involved Shooting Released

A “routine” traffic stop for an Arizona State Trooper is often unpredictable.
AZDPS Trooper Sean Harkins’ body-worn camera video from Monday, June 19, 2023, shows him shortly after 11:30 a.m. as he stopped the driver of a Kia sedan near 21st Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix. As Trooper Harkins walked towards the vehicle, the suspect, 29-year-old Luis Mateo Jacobo Borja, opened fire, striking Trooper Harkins in the leg. Trooper Harkins managed to get back to his patrol vehicle and call for assistance.
AZDPS is grateful to Phoenix Police, firefighters, EMS, and all of the assisting agencies.
AZDPS would like to send special recognition to the doctors and medical staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center who treated Trooper Harkins, who was released from the hospital and is now recovering at home.
AZDPS defers to the investigating agency, Phoenix Police Department, for any additional information regarding this incident.

I heard all of this on my police scanner from the start of it to the end. Soooo thankful for the officer who stopped and rendered first aid techniques saving his life. My heart broke 💔 when I heard him screaming for help on the radio. Thank God he made it on through. May God continue to bless him his family and his AZ DPS family

I was listening to my police scanner when this all happened. My heart breaks 💔 when I heard him screaming for help. Many thanks goes out to that officer who stopped and rendered life saving techniques. They were offering to drive him to the hospital themselves but the supervisors told them not too. Thank God he made it through.

I'm always amazed people see officers in trouble and just pass by or video it. That white car that drove right past him could've helped apply the TQ and stopped bloss sooner.

Right bc as a citizen it would be in my best interest to rush to aid a cop already fearing for his life. He'd probably shoot me bc I'm black, and all I wanted to do was help. Sorry, but that's the sad truth of the world I live in, so no, I'm good. I'll keep driving. Too many unarmed innocent black men getting killed for me to risk such an endeavor.

doesn't that make it more stupid that he got shot for just doing a traffic stop? you have one very triggered mindset to see a traffic stop as him spitting on his oath, giving you a reason to not care if he got shot...
