I agree with alot of what your saying and the training methods. I really appreciate the emphasis you place on grip strength. Most people don't realize how strong they can get by strengthening their grip by using fat bars/grips. I didn't learn about grip strength until I started researching strongman training.
I am a 55 yo old female who enjoys CrossFit and Oly lifting. ALL of your videos are AMAZING. So much knowledge crammed into your brain. I take a piece of all your videos with me. Thank you. Any chance I could talk you into a video for hip stabilization/mobilization/strengthening in the future?
I do both bodybuilding and wrestling both full on weekly. And I can tell you if you balance it you defenitly feel stronger in terms if grip lifting person up and stronger core so definitly helps aloot when you are stronger than other person your weight
Pretty cool informational video. I believe most people don't understand the principles of strength training and automatically assume anyone who has gained muscle through strength training is a bodybuilder. The aspect of strength endurance translates very well to grappling sports.
Absolutely love your videos Gareth. I train in mma. And do grappling. Probably not on your guys level. But have a basic knowledge of it. I hardly do any strength training. Do a lot of drilling. And sparring. And used to do running. Not going 100%. But I’m gonna start doing strength training and wrestling strength what you’ve said in this video and previous videos. I always assumed to have great cardio. You can kind of get away with things. But that’s really not the case. I think strength and explosiveness for grappling is definitely beneficial probably more than just cardio. Because I remember you saying that in wrestling you need to go 100% for like 20 seconds sometimes in short bursts. Great video anyway. Learnt so much 👍🏼
Hey bro. Love the videos. I'm a boxer who trains just to get crafty at the sweet science. Could you make a video on bodybuilding for boxing? Bodybuilding is a passion of mine.
The funny thing is that this guy doesn’t seem to define “bodybuilding” differently from how most people define bodybuilding. Bodybuilding here would be considered regular weight lifting or general strength conditioning to many fitness people. For example, how often do bodybuilders climb rope or do olympic lifts (which btw, is not strength endurance, it’s power)? Bodybuilding for most people would be defined as training purely for aesthetics and functionality takes a back seat. So far, his point on intimidation seems to be the most valid. And it only works with beginners. It helps but it’s not decisive.
Yes bodybuilding is nit wrestling to be wrestler and good at its you have to wrestle yes some form od Wright lifting is very good and you shoulf do IT . This men is talking like bodybulding and Weights willa overpower the technique, different specific endurance and experience that you van only develope by wrestling
Hey coach! Very informative video as always, great work! But I have a question: what do you think about implementing stomach vacuums as core training for athletes(wrestling and grappling especially)? Can we benefit from them or stomach vacuums just all about aesthetics and won't increase athletic performance?
I do MMA I always struggle mixing it with weight lifting I'm always sore from lifting then when I spar I pull muscle or feel like I'm not recovered a feel weak how do I stay big and still grapple and box
The other thing is that he cites Brock Lesnar as an example of how bodybuilding helps with wrestling, but Brock Lesnar is also a steroids user. I’m not sure this channel is ready to advocate steroid use to help with wrestling.
A wrestler can transition to jujitsu easier than the someone trained in jujitsu can transfer to wrestling. If I recall I believe Ramsey Dewey said that. Wrestling exercises are king.
So essentially, this video: I redefine what bodybuilding is by cherrypicking any strength based exercises any bodybuilders in the past have used at any point in time, and now my definition of bodybuilding is a compatible training method for wrestling.
Guys , only by wrestling you can be good at wrestling bodybuilding wil not overpower your shape . some lift training should be done . But when you look at world champions wrestling they not bulk bodybuilders they wrestle most of they life.. different specific endurance and strenght
I have been following your videos with interest. However, Bodybuilding For Wrestling is not one of them. There is a great difference when it comes to purpose. Wrestlers and other athletes do weight training to improve performance; Bodybuilders train with 2 specific objectives: hypertrophy and definition. You talk about these aspects as intimidation, but you will achieve the same with proper weight training and sport specific practice. In addition, athletes have to budget their training time and energy. Dedicating a large part of their training for hypertrophy and definition would take important time and energy for other more important parts and would be quite inefficient. A lot of what you define as bodybuilding in your video, however, is actually functional training which bodybuilders avoid as the plague. Most bodybuilders, who have tried other sports, have crushed miserably. There are many other aspects of bodybuilding, such as isolation exercises, which have actually proven detrimental for sport performance.
I understand your point, but this video is highlight certain aspects of bodybuilding training that is helpful for wrestling and not saying bodybuilding training as a whole. Bodybuilding will help shape the muscle better than traditional power training which will obviously be implemented in the same program, but it will also improve the health of the muscle which all carryover to sports performance.
David, I believe she is 100% in the debate for one of the greatest female weightlifters ever. I don't think her technique is the greatest ever but she is incredible. We have a video planned for this topic, I promise!
I'm stuck at home with a 64kg barbell but I can load the weights onto dumbbells aswell. I can easily rep 64kg deadlifts, what can I do to keep getting strong?
We will be releasing a video about this very soon, but to help right now. You can do bicep curls, bench press, push press, strict press, behind head tricep press, bent over rows, back squat, front squat, snatch, cleans, jerks etc. Lots of barbell exercises to choose from.
@@GarageStrength thanks for the advice I appreciate it but I can easily rep bench aswell, what kind of reps do you recommend? I also don't have a squat rack so I've been doing goblet squats for 5 sets of 15. Do you think that'll be effective?
