If you can get arrested for propositioning a prostitute, why in the world can't you be arrested for propositioning a minor and specifically a child under 13 ? The law makers in any state that don't draft the necessary laws protecting our children in circumstances like this need to be held accountable BEFORE a tragedy happens. "Disturbing the Peace" is NOT even close to what this man was trying to do
I feel like "propositioning a minor" is in fact a crime, but of course it's something very specific, so officers couldn't technically do anything about it, so they gotta grasp at straws to get him of something else, anything else, just to take him in. I thinks laws should have more room for common sense. Anyone could see what this guy was after, but i guess he didn't say the right magic words to trigger the specific crime of "propositioning a minor". You can def thank the state attorney's office for that bone head decision. Coupled with the fact that luring or enticing a child is a misdemeanor, and not under the misdemeanor exceptions, police can't arrest for misdemeanors that are not misdemeanor exceptions (unless the witnessed the misdemeanor themselves)
Not to mention the police had to rely on the civilians to enact a civilians arrest just to place this monster in cuffs, even AFTER admitting to being attracted to children. What the actual fuck Idaho?!
As a kid, just knowing you have encountered an adult that means you terrible harm is traumatizing. Even if they don't lay a finger on you, it sticks to you.
I agree. When I was about 8, my mom went inside this building, and after a while I got bored and went to look for her. As I was looking in the building's windows, a white van (the stereotypical one we all think about in these situations) pulled up, and a dude leaned out the window and said "What are you doing out here?" With like a kid-friendly smiley demeanor. I said "I'm just waiting for my mom. Her car and her boyfriend (still in the car) is right over there." And he pulled off after I said that. I assumed it was security roaming the perimeter. I assumed that until one day about 20 years later, I realized in all my time as an adult, in all the jobs I've had, I've never seen a place that has security rolling around in white vans, and that guy was probably a pervert. I don't know for sure though. Just the thought that that COULD have been a close call has me shook for all the kids that had to experience it for real, and for the kids that will in the future.
All children have to grow up this way - and if you are female it’s your whole life. We live where Men are free and everyone else sacrifices their freedom so men can be free. If you have the right skin tone.
I’m noticing this really specific weird and creepy demeanor with these pedophiles when they get caught. It’s almost like they’re acting like a mischievous kid who got caught being naughty. All the weird inappropriate smiling when they give their outlandish bs answers. It’s really bizarre and so unsettling to watch. The guy who got picked up at a school stalking and attempting to abduct a little girl he found on social media I think had the same exact demeanor. Gives me chills.
Children need to be taught about how adults may try to manipulate them. These boys ' instincts were spot on. Their actions were smart to find an adult and to insist on getting their help .😪🙏
It's fkin CRAZY to think neither of my Parents ever WARNED me or my siblings about Adults trying to Abduct us when we were little...Two shit for brains parents...
They usually are and thankfully tend to be smart enough to not fall for it. Unfortunetly a grown adult is almost always going to be able to overpower a small child so it doesent stop it all the time and it's horrible.
The man recognizing the situation and immediately going into protector mode is commendable. At our worst, humans can be vile creatures. Even this random stranger showed us that our basic instinct is to help and care for one another.
The fact that he is an attorney and can represent himself in cases like this is _very disturbing_ aside from his confession of being an absolute dirt bag
This would be a criminal case if he had of been charged with something serious. He couldn't really represent himself very well if that had of happened since he is basically family law not criminal law.
@@Youre-Welcome I feel like that point isn't really relevant to what OP is saying. and it isn't a crime but it's evidence to the character and motivations of the creep

There's no reason at all why attempted kidnapping of a child shouldn't carry an incredibly strict punishment. Just because the child got away or a witness stepped in and prevented it, that doesn't mean you haven't done something serious.
There was an incident maybe 10 years ago here in Scotland where a male went to a police station to state he was sexually attracted to children, lived near a school and was scared he’d abuse a child. It isn't what you think it is. It's just a law that states an adult can't ask a child to go somewhere with them outside of public view. It's a code used specifically to punish people the court can't reach a standard of evidence to charge with a felony.
Crazy how there are enhancements for simply possessing a firearm during another felony but we can't have enhancements for crimes against children. Our government is literally telling us they care more about guns than children

A bit of context - as the man here mentions in the video, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and hadn't been taking his medication. However, he does not just have bipolar - he has bipolar with psychosis, likely schizoaffective disorder. He hadn't been taking any medication when this episode happened and he was in the middle of a psychotic episode. When you look at the video this lines up: most pedophiles or offenders of that nature react like criminals when they're caught, because they ARE criminals - they will lie for their benefit, attempt to mislead in a rational manner, etc. This guy straight up just admits to anything whenever he's pushed - he's asked if he likes kids, he says no, then he's asked again and he says yes - what criminal would just admit to that? He's asked if he asked the boy to go on a boat with him and he freely admits it - why would he admit to that while knowing it makes him look so much worse? It's clear that this guy is just completely disconnected from reality - even the dumbest criminals wouldn't answer questions the way he's doing it, and he's a freaking lawyer at that. I'm guessing some people will say that he was doing this because he somehow knew he would get the light punishment he received...that's not the case. There's no bigger slam dunk for a prosecutor than putting away a pedophile, so it doesn't make sense that they'd just pass him up. The authorities actually gained access to his devices and found no evidence of any child pornography as well. These findings and his medical history are the only reason this guy is able to continue practicing law (he was investigated by the bar association). I feel bad for the guy because this situation clearly looks awful but it seems like he genuinely was in the middle of a psychotic episode where he was disconnected from reality and now his life is ruined. In any case though, thank god for the aware workers at the beach who stopped this situation, because pedophile or not, letting two children stay with a person who is suffering from a psychotic episode is a recipe for disaster.

Considering the behaviour though, an actual desire brought to the forefront or not, I wouldn't let my child anywhere near him for a second. Having said that another neorlogical condition has a common misconception attached to it with a similar assumption. A lot of people assume that tourette coprolalia outbursts are what people are thinking about slipping out so something particularly offensive must be what they actually believe. That's not the case. Most of the time it's not even a conscious thought that comes out and even when it is, it's more like something the person does not want to say because they know it to be bad and not what they believe but the stress of worrying about a tic triggers it to happen. Very different conditions though but it's an example that how the brain works and what can occur when connections are crossed or not working correctly can get headachingly complicated really fast. Also worth remembering that as every person is unique, every case in unique. There are common traits and indicators but they are very broad and don't all always apply case to case. On the old DSM-4 I'm an Aspie. DSM-5 it's under ASD with a bunch of other things. The number of people I've interacted with that have asked "are you sure? You seem so expressive and don't talk monotone". I've also had over 40yrs derping from humiliating disaster to humiliating disaster learning new coping stratagies and adapting as I went

I am bipolar just as he claims he is, and mania/hypomania or even a full-blown psychotic episode can make you do CRAZY things that are completely sporadic, dangerous, and out of ones normal nature. I'm not excusing what he did, and the punishment was laughingly weak. No kid deserves to be in this type of situation, but I also think that if he isn't in control or well, he needs major help as an inpatient. I also don't think he should be practising law with bipolar disorder and being un-medicated, and after this, if he still has a client base to work with, should remove himself from family law scenarios entirely.

Idaho law is bizarre. First, that first offense child enticement isn't a felony. Second, that the police can't immediately arrest someone for a misdemeanor if they didn't witness it.
