How terrifying to hear them screaming and not be able to help as an officer or even bystander. Also for real That cop could of really died any moment not knowing if the other half of the building was gonna collapse

@@somewherehere424 No. There were people in the actual rubble crying out, that didn't die instantly, including the mother of the teenage boy who was rescued, but the mother later died from her injuries, and others who the rescuers couldn't get to. No don’t think so. If you read accounts of people who tried to exit from the garage it sounds like it was likely the family of 4 on I think 11th floor and another husband and wife and an older neighbor 88yo who reached the garage level by the stairs. The two mothers (with a daughter and with a son) who survived the collapse were partially buried in rubble on the other side of the building. There was also a young woman trapped between two beds who was on the north side of the building in the collapsed underground garage portion on that other side too. They could hear and talk to her but couldn’t reach her in time during those first 11 hours after collapse. When I was a kid, I had a hard time trusting large buildings like this, but I just kept trying to convince myself that the people building it took everything into account beforehand. Now, I'm not so sure...

Sometimes the owner of the building try to cut corners and expenses by sacrificing safety. Look up the Sampoong department store collapse that happened in South Korea. Whenever a building collapse like this there is always corruption involved.

Whenever you see big cracks and damage in the foundation, always trust your instincts and move out. Never trust the building manager.

@J MHow was he a coward, he was doing what he was supposed to. Had he just arrived and started digging because bare hands can lift tons of concrete and break right through it . He actually called for the resources that was needed to start doing the work properly. When you arrived first onscene you are supposed to do a 360 of the incident and call for what you need. Not tunnel vision . Ol keyboard warrior, over here.

Police don’t get training in dealing with Bldg collapses which is why some of the comments are negative like he’s not doing anything etc. He did what he could as the first officer in scene by just giving first hand info of what happened. Aside from removing surface victims there’s not much more he can do

@@silentwishs u can’t just show up and start digging for people u need to access the situation first, plus like taking fruit off the bottem off the pile at the store. If u move something from a very large pile it can create a huge collapse causing people under the pile to be crushed further

There is something so scary about screams in the night especially when they are echoing!! It is a sound that rattles me to my core...screams in the night are usually the sign of something terrible. To all the lost souls, rest easy now as your loss will bring change to keep your loved ones left behind safe from something like this ever happening again.

The screams and echos are chilling.... But those we hear probably lived. Saddest thing is the silence. Poor, poor souls.

Bear in mind....I'd guess that most of the people in the collapse were already dead or dying, and wouldn't have been easily audible even if they were conscious, buried as they were under layers and layers of concrete. The screams we are hearing are perhaps from the boy who, with his mother, was pulled from the rubble shortly after this, or perhaps from the two other women, mother and daughter, who were in one of the apartments which was torn in half. They fell with the collapse into the standing part of the building and survived. The other people calling for help are survivors trapped in the same remaining part of the building, who were unable to escape due to blocked stairways. Firefighters rescued them from their balconies as the night wore on.

More likely from the several residents who had led people out to escape the building. Family from 11th floor joined by another couple and older neighbor. Believe the older woman referred to as injured was the 88-year old residents carried over some of the debris and out to the beach.
