Hello everybody! Welcome back to another video of NextGenerationMechanic. Today I will show and tell you somethings about the inspection on the Magnetic Chip Detectors and tell you something about the CFM56-7B oil system. I hope you learn something new!

Often we find pieces of the Carbon seals in the MCD, where does this carbon material come from? It’s not magnetic they are found in the mesh part of the MCD

Carbon deposits that came loose, carbon seals, it can be different obviously. The AMM has some nice guidance pictures to put you into the right way :-). The seals can come from the AGB for instance.

The AMM has its limits but I’ll have to review it to see where the pieces of seal is coming from

Thank you! As far as I remember it was every 3 months but Im not too sure. We don't operate the 737NG that much anymore...

Magnetic chip detector only attracts ferrous metal chips, you missed that one.

It also gets carbon elements, there’s an action for each of the found material in AMM

@@moatasemmohyie7168 some systems incorporate a filter around the chip detector to trap non ferrous particles. But let’s be clear on this one, ONLY FERROUS METALS GET CAUGHT BY THE MAGNET

Hello! What if you found something in a detector? How do you know where did debries come from? 😀

Good question. There are 3 chip detectors as shown in the video. Every chip detector is connected to a different oil user on the engine. If you find a debris you have to refer to the AMM to locate where the part came from and if it's acceptable. For example, if you find a swirl of metal, it can be from a bearing from the engine (just an example ofc.). Hope this answers your question.
