I’ve been on the triple for about 3 years now. Best plane I’ve ever flown. And I agree. Long haul flying is a different airline altogether. I hope to stay on the 777 till I retire. I hope they stay around long enough.

Someday I will be able to fly in a 777, and hope you're my pilot. Biggest plane I have flown on was a MD-10, flew from JFK to BHX for work in 1994. Took the train from Birmingham to London on a Saturday and took the bus tour. Got to see a lot of London, including the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.

Hi Juan, Am new to your channel. Discovered you early in the Oroville situation. Now as a new subscriber I am encountering aviation vids, which I really enjoy. This is just to thank you. I'll be doing lots of clicking in your territory now. I live at the north end of the Sierras, so I enjoy the Sierra subjects too.

I only discovered "blancolirio" after surfing RU-vid for reliable info on Oroville Dam. My bosses Lad, Lord Harry Hay, has a Degree in Civil Engineering, specialising in concrete I believe. This year my cousin and Merlin Hay 24th Earl of Erroll's nephew, Merlin Carnegie, also gained a Degree in Civil Engineering from Glasgow. I have suggested that if you are in London, you visit our UK Parliament, where Merlin Hay, Lord Erroll sits as Her Majesty's Personal Representative. Merlin also pilots his own light aircraft. I would love to introduce you. to him, and I rather hope he could give you a short tour of Parliament.

lots of power 2 GE90-115b engines (115,000lbs thrust each) but not much for wings (same as the 200) so you can't always get the altitude you need. The 777X will fix that.

You are absolutely right. The entirely french programme CATIA was also used to design the Raffale and as well, among other things, the helmet of the Paris fire brigade. When it comes to high-performance electronics, hardly any country has as little to learn from others like the French, who train more electronics and math students than any other European country who unfortunately train an excessively large part of their youth in so-called "soft" disciplines instead of tangible and usable science.

I’m thinking on pursuing a career as an airline pilot and eventually work my way to fly the 777s. Don’t know what airline or path to take...? My problem is, I’m mid 20s have only flown 2 hours in a Cessna 172. Don’t have any license or ratings. I work as a ramp agent and don’t really have all the time in the world to fly. Do you think it’s realistic to start now? And what is the best path I can take for my situation? Thanks for the help!

The B777 is so far the finest large commercial airliner I've ever flown. And for SO many reasons. Having said that, the first time I ever got to fly the 300ER was a revenue trip SFO-EWR and even on a short transcon hop like that - no augmentation - it was massively impressive. Max Blast out of SFO (just because!) and it leaped off the ground in about 4500 feet. Lots LOTS of thrust but wish it had a bit more wing.

Hi Juan, I can't believe your bashing of the mainstream media on the latest dam video! lol I cut the cable long ago, and can't even stand to listen to news radio anymore, let alone TV! Its all RU-vid for me, that's how I found your channel! I have a friend that built a huge garage below the dam. I just had a recent landslide below my garage, and started watching videos on the dam. I now only watch yours! I have met Peewee that also does the dam videos (and also from the air) at my friends place, you probably know him. Congrats on the 777! I am a retired Boeing Toolmaker of 35 years. I worked on the project from the beginning, until I retired in 2013'. I used to love my job, but got to the point I could no longer stand it! The place has became so stupid, common sense no longer exists! Like trying to build 777s on a so called "moving line", what a joke!! Our job became babysitters of that stupid idea! OK, now you got me started!! lol I have another kind of strange connection to the 777. My ex fiancee's unofficial step Dad was Lew Wallick. At his memorial I got to meet John Cashman, super cool guy! I got picks of the ex hugging him. Anyhow, keep up the great work, I love your videos! I have forgotten to subscribe with the landslide crap going on, but will right now!

Howdy, When I first encountered you, it was all about Oroville and you were the most factual and data-rich voice (plus some really nice views at 720p)(I won't spoil our infant acquantanceship with the "S" word today)(hmm, that looks bad, it's not the *common* S word everyone else is thinking about [apologies for the suggestion], it's the *other* one that most strongly affects zoomed videos). ANYways, you mentioned the mighty 500 in one vid, leading me to your channel and your motorcycle videos, then I saw one of the Oroville vids from your Luscombe (lucky, lucky guy)(and I gather it got through another annual, or is that hand prop video a friend's?) and I thought - here's a guy who loves all the things I do! But the hits just keep on comin'! NOW I see you're flying a triple 7 for (apparently) Double A and I'm wondering, that's a pretty small club, you might well know a friend of mine who also flies the triple7 for Double A. I won't mention his name, but if you know him, you know he competes in balloon competitions and comes from Longview, TX. Chasing for him (unofficially) is the high point of my kids' year. Small world, huh? Mention my screen name to him, he'll recognize it and tell you all about our differing aviation careers. Anyway, I knew there was some reason I liked your vids so much (beyond the quality). Thanks! It's not a trivial effort. I wish I had your energy!

You mentioned the feel of the controls in the 777 and how it has the feel of the forces of a more traditional airliner. I have also heard that the yoke and rudder pedals move in unison for both the pilot and copilot position, as they do in most aircraft big and small. What is your opinion of the Airbus design of the flight controls? Both the Boeing 777 and most Airbus aircraft, such as the A320, are fly by wire. I understand the the implementation is quite different. In particular, the A320 has a side stick setup. Am I correct in my understanding that Airbus does NOT have the same force feedback feel in the controls that the 777 has? Also I heard that the pilot's and copilot's controls DO NOT move in unison, and that if the pilot in command moves the stick, the other pilots stick does not move. I read that this was a contributing factor in the loss of Air France flight 447. The 2 non flying pilots did not notice that the pilot in command had the aircraft stalled with the side stick held all the way back.

Excellent video. Good to see a review of the 777 from the perspective of a pilot. For the last 2.5 years I've been commuting between Houston and Saudi Arabia. Although I'm all for "Support America", I'm using Emirates (don't judge me) due to the fact that the schedules fit mine the best. Up until July last year they were using the A380 on the DXB-IAH route, which averages about 16 hours in the air. Let me tell you, that is one sweet plane! Last July, they switched to the 777-300ER. The ONLY thing I don't like about the 777 is that the seats are 1" narrower. That may not seem like much, but on a full flight, it makes a difference! Keep the videos coming, and include more aviation stuff when you can!

Dear Mr. Juan, Glad to know that aircraft are being designed with the pilot in mind. (you might have heard this ... when the C-5a was first assigned to Dover AFB, 1971, the latest greatest thing was that the aircraft was designed to be run from instructions on a cassette tape, from takeoff to landing.)

I'll never get to ride on a B777 but the most advanced to date aircraft I did ride on from LAX to ORD was the B738. Very first trip on that model impressed me so much because it was so smooth. We did the t/o to the west, out over the ocean and when it came time to roll around over Long Beach you could not tell you were turning. For some reason the older a/c pushes you into the seat while banking but this dash 8 did not. I don't know if this is due to bank limiters now incorporated in newer jet designs or if I had a really good pilot. Either way, now when booking flights I triple check the a/c type for the available flights and I choose Boeing only a/c when available. Don't have much to say about Airbus except they ride like cattle cars in the Army and I don't like them. My personal favorite is still the MD-88 in the larger a/c and the B717 in the smaller a/c. Actually now I can add B737-8 to that list. I love flying more than anything in the world but hate the commotion and red tape inside the terminals. Thankfully IND is a smaller airport and easier to move about and quickly get through security without much hassles.

So if you fly long haul, are you based in LAX? If so, do you fly yourself down or take commercial flights out of Sacramento?

i have been watching your Oroville dam updates and just realized you are an AMR pilot! I retired from US Airways, as a flight attendant in 2006, early out. have been watching the merger from the outside, listening to my still active friends about the merger. i was a national union rep and was on a team to design the interiors of the A321s and A330s. it was an exciting and enlightening experience. designing the 777 must have been a great experience. sounds like you are flying the 777 out of LAX. Has the SFO base totally closed? in 2008 i moved from PIT to SFO and now in OAK for new work. now medical disability due to progressive back injury, long story... I still miss flying, from the old days. but do not miss all the hectic merger issues, but the newer opportunities would be cool. as you know we were made up of merged companies, its a lot of work. what group were u from originally? i loved flying int, you will have a great time. please take care of your back end crew. we had a blast in Paris and Frankfurt. i need to take advantage of my passes. haven't done much flying lately and need to change that. maybe i will see you on a flight one day. i enjoy your dam updates and will check out more of your chanel. thanks for posting all that info. i know its a lot of work. fly safe... thanks, Dave G

I have the Boeing certified X-Plane model of the 777. I have always wondered how similar it might be to the real thing, the claim is performance is within 1% but I wonder if I could start the real thing from cold and dark. I'm sure sims take some liberties.. The hardest thing to learn, for me, was programming the FMS and getting vnav and de-rating set up, their fuel burn model is certainly wrong, either in planning or execution. Maybe one day I'll pay BA or Lufthansa and try theirs, but I expect they'll think I'm an idiot if I spend the time programming the FMS. The only bad thing I ever heard about them was from United flight attendants in the first couple they had in service, in turbulence they got thrown around a lot in the rear galley and one woman broke an ankle, but it was too early to know if that was a one-off. So do you not fly very often? Are there so many spare long-haul pilots?

I assumed you live in No. Cal. Is that correct? And, thanks to you, I will no longer be afraid to fly on one of the new 777's. I'm good with the older airplanes. New, bigger one's, so-so. Also, back in the 80's, I was in reservations for British Calendonian. British Airways bought us out. We flew into Garwick. But, I got made fun of because I never went to London. lol.

Just for instance if you were PIlot not flying on BA 38 that crash landed at Heathrow would you have taken the same action as capt peter butkill and reduced the flap setting to get the aircraft over the buildings and petrol stations

I machined the fuselage turning fixture. Put some extra mojo on the geometry. Since then it built a magical history. Been doing some journal essay research on it. If there are any 777 pilots here who have piloted a variety of airliners how does it compare to attacks from gremlins?

Capt. Browne, I enjoyed your report on the 777. I'm a retired corporate pilot (31 years). I have a good friend who is a captain for UAL on the 777 out of ORD to several European cities. I'm amazed at all the automation on modern aircraft. All of the aircraft I flew did not have "glass cockpits" except for the Learjet 60's I finished in. I was lucky to grow up in an airplane. My Dad got his private pilot license in the late 1940's and flew for almost 50 years. Flew to Europe twice, once in a Challenger and then in the Lear 60. That Atlantic seemed awfully big in a small aircraft. Happy Landings!!
