A FedEx Airlines cargo plane landed at Istanbul Airport on Wednesday (May 8) without the front landing gear deployed and managed to stay on the runway, Turkey's transport ministry said, adding that there were no casualties.
The Boeing 767 aircraft, flying from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, informed the traffic control tower at Istanbul Airport that its landing gear failed to open and it landed with guidance from the tower, the ministry said in its statement.
Airport rescue and fire fighting teams made necessary preparations on the runway before landing, and no one was injured, the ministry also said.

I often watch plane crash reenactments. and I noticed that some reasons when it is impossible to land are the BANAL failure of the landing gear descent automation. The plane is forced to make several circles around the airport. Of course, there are various reasons for the difficult landing of the liner. This is fog, strong wind, obstacle on the runway, etc.
@pfefferle74
@pfefferle74 4 месяца назад
The gears on these planes can also be "dropped out" by mere gravity alone. Apparently though that didn't work either, so something must have become totally stuck. And a manual crank wouldn't have helped either.
@MaxZomboni
@MaxZomboni 4 месяца назад
@@Matchesr2d2 Exactly the gear was already down. There was no reason to manually deploy it. But it does make me wonder why there is no redundant secondary device that can come down to help lock the gear in place. It shouldn't be that difficult to design. It just should not be possible for the gear to collapse like that.

It's indicative of the state of journalism. This isn't some kid in the basement, it's the The Times, Great Britain's Oldest Newspaper, per their description. Look up Gell-Mann Amnesia if you want to understand why it's actually a big deal. Basically, if you see something incorrect in writings about something you know, don't believe anything they write in other subjects either. Sad that journalism has fallen so far.
